Yuna Kim

Thanks, yyyskate. I don't know what to say.....I got very emotional and teary as soon as I read your first post above regarding the analysis. Too many feelings surged from the bottom of my heart. Adios Nonino....I think the work is the most exquisite program from her. I look forward to following analysis.

I received a warning from this board and my post about Sot's spin level got deleted, I hope whoever is interested has already read it, Anyways, back to Yuna's Adios Nonino Analysis translation:

Yuna Adios Nonino Analysis:

counter clock wise waltz jump companied by arm and free leg dance gesture.
Tango style expose with head, arms, and free leg dance gesture (this is a series of Argentina tango moves, I did some research about this before, and have considered to make some dance vs skating comparison gif in the future, one thing I wanna point out here is Yuna and choreographer's unbelievable attention to details, in Adios Nonino, Yuna has incorporated back boleo(leg whip) a couple of times, and her execution can even differentiate (and choreographer have designed) different kinds of back boleos such as linear and circular!
counter clockwise RFI 3turn + LFO 3turn accompanied by arm dance move.
hand dance move nuance matching music (Yuna’s right hand did a snap to match music here, which is one kind of tango hand flourish move, this move is added in the later versions of adios nonino, yet not in its debut version, it erased the laziness of debut version at that moment, similar sharper improvement has also added in her stsq throughout the evolvement of Adios Nonino).
clockwise cross-over after counter clockwise turn.
counter clockwise mohawk accompanied by arm dance move (also after the mohawk turn Yuna’s free leg stepped right on the strong piano note purposely, a great music emphasis, usually steps leading to jumps want to keep momentum and flow, not restrain(contain) it like a brake, yet Yuna 3F and 3S leading choreo/step all has this kinda restrain move, it is unique yet interpreted that special tension of Tango very well)

Yuna Adios Nonino Analysis:

RBO-LFI choctaw
3F is preceded with choctaw + 3turn. quality is good. just a little bit tight, height is not as sufficient as before. but overall should be awarded +1 or +2 GOE. (frenchrabbit is very conservative while analyzing Yuna. I personally think this 3F by Yuna is actually one of her best adios nonino 3F outing. this 3F jumping pass match music throughout down to the detail of free leg swing. Also it did not repeat the way how jumps matching music structure. In opening 3lz-3t, air revolution matched rapid piano nodes. yet in this 3F, the jump air time is silent, suspension is created and released with the landing and following piano notes. All choreographically on purpose)
clockwise counter accompanied with tangle style arm and free leg dance.
free leg front cross clockwise RBI 3 turn. (another transition sequence that brilliantly incorporated signature Argentina tango moves)
clockwise LFI 3turn + RFO 3turn companied by arm dance move
2 foot in cross foot position dance style expose
counter clockwise cross over after clockwise turn sequence
LFO-RFO cross roll + RBO rocker accompanied by arm and free leg dance move.
3S-2T another very good jump combo on all aspects. transition into jump is very good. not only included turns in 2 directions but also executed a cross roll+rocker sequence. very smooth and stable, should be award +1 or +2. (again, this 3S-2T jumping pass match music and tango style, such as free leg mimicked linear boleo, cross-roll mimicked front Ocho, this jumping pass music interpretation emphasis is bandoneon tension, jump combo rhythms/phrasing and knee bounciness)

This is my first time watching this, it's about 2008 Worlds in details. It made me tear up and the clips showing 2009 Worlds...I will never stop being amazed by her, she's been through so much, with minimal support (I'm so angry looking at her practicing in the conditions like that in Korea) but she made it, made it probably to this level she could never expect to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6W2_DQFNCQ

Thank you, yyyskate for for your translations!

Yuna Adios Nonino Analysis:

butterfly difficult entry. free leg bend over, lay over camel spin difficult position(a.k.a Yuna spin) on right leg. left leg cannonball sit spin difficult position, left leg upright spin position with dance neuance
FCCoSp4, fly change foot combination spin level 4 level completed:
1 butterfly difficult entry
2 bend free leg lay over camel on right leg (difficult camel spin position)
3 cannon ball sit spin on left leg (difficult sit spin position)
4 upper body forward lean, side twist non-basic difficult position on left leg (difficult non-basic spin position).
the design of this spin is concise, All level criteria are executed very clear. execution quality is very solid. especially the gravity center/landing of fly camel is very stable (one great quality of Yuna’s fly camel.) every position not only beautiful and nuanced. but also has balanced number of revolutions. final upright spin (and wind down) dance as well as facial expression matched the transition of music perfectly, could gave +2 GOE.

waltz jump (waltz jump and various non-element jump has been used in Yuna’s sochi program transition multiple times, always accompanied by different whole body dance, also before waltz jump, there is a couple Tango style steps linking spins and stsq frenchrabbit didnot mention, but really stylish and highlights)
LFI-RBO Choctaw
RBI-RFI(Rocker)-RBO(Bracket)-RFO(Counter)-LFO(Cross Roll)-LBO(Rocker)-LBI Loop.
toe steps RFO-RBO Rocker

RFO-RBI(3turn)-twizzle

Yuna's Adios Nonino Analysis:

Stsq3? step sequence level 3 question mark?
level criteria:
1, Complexity step composition (according to 13-14 season rules, 3turn, Rocker, Bracket, Counter, Twizzle, Loop etc. 6 kinds of turns, as well as Chasse, Choctaw, Toe Steps and Change-of-edge etc 4 different steps, all included turn in 2 directions)(clear whole body turn not just turn in lower body)
2, large amplitude upper body utilization move covers more than one third of the stsq pattern
3, turns in 2 directions each covers at least 1/3 of the stsq respectively.
4, 2 single-foot difficult step/turn combo sequence
this stsq tech specialist ruled as level 3. since it has absolutely no problem is all other criteria. One could only assumed that it was not recognized on upper body utilization (bullet #2)
if the definition of “upper body utilization” is defined as after rule change (ISU has unclear definition of upper body utilization during 2013-14 season and clarified after 14 season), this stsq is no doubt a level 4. Indeed the ratio that direct utilized upper body is not very high. but arm dance movement is plenty and many of them will significantly influence body gravity center. According to rules, all these moves should be accounted for. Combined with direct upper body utilization move, the ratio should satisfied 1/3. This level bullet can only be judged subjectively, (if due to this, level 4 stsq) is not recognized, is just unfortunate.
In fact, the difficulty of this stsq is huge. if there is a “supper level 4”(or as we call it level 5) this stsq should be the much deserved exemplification
not only difficult steps/turns is more than 20, but almost all of them appeared in long combo sequence. rarely any appeared in isolated or buffering area. Besides, stsq and tango style/dance combined seamlessly. this will add quite some difficulty (notice, Yuna’s upper body change/dance during the moment of turns, she intentionally added those upper body moves on top of turns throughout the evolvement of Adios Nonino that season, yet shameless judges awarded her hard work with a lv3).
When dance tango on ice, because, upper body should be tall and straight (to reflect the style). therefore, if wanna exhibit the charm, one must rely on head, arm and free leg’s flourish/variation to emphasize the style of Tango dance . This stsq extensively utilized all those areas. its control difficulty exceeded direct upper body up-down move.(frenchRabbit also mentioned elsewhere, due to the Tango style restriction, add direct up-down type of upper body move is inappropriate to the tango style, it is not that Yuna cannot do those moves, it is respect to chosen style)
the quality of execution is impeccable. every step/turns executed very clear, precise, clean, the edge/curve quality is extremely good.
for just 30 seconds, covered huge pattern on ice.(if you watch Yuna’s stsq fancam and compare to others. her huge ice coverage and dance whole body amplitude during such difficult stsq blade work is really second to none!!!!), exhibit supreme flow, strength and dynamic ability.
Dance beautiful and smooth, affluent in flavor, matched tango music style and rhythm perfectly (I personally really like Yuna’s knee rhythm in her adios nonino!)
this stsq is well worthy a GOE of 3.

Yuna's Adios Nonino Analysis:

toe step, accompanied with upper body turn into expose and hand move detail matching music (also facial expression)
toe step accompanied by arm dance move preceded by counter clockwise turn. (in this transition sequence Yuna’s hand details matched piano notes (answer/echo bandoneon) magically)
clockwise Mohawk, accompanied by arm dance move.
free leg swing during clockwise one-foot edge accompanied with arm dance move
cross roll
counter clockwise 3turn and counter clockwise forward cross-over after clockwise turn
arm dance move during cross-over
counter clockwise mohawk and arm dance move
3LZ,
quality has some issue. mainly lack of revolution, and influenced landing quality.from slow-mo, the under-rotation is right around 90. due to that it deviated from the original curve upon landing, intuitively/visually, feels like under-rotated. Tech specialist ruled as fully-rotated 3lz, according to the jump judging standard of last group skaters, I personally agree with this ruling. (I think 3lz tight landing is due to a little deviated rotation axis in the air, its hight is the same as opening lutz. also the music structure of this 3lutz jumping pass again is special, it matched not only landing piano note which is commonly used in figure skating, the unique part is the toe picking match music note. it is very creative and difficult to choreo (need to match the timing of music and jump move details) and risky to execute. this jumping pass music structure is yet again different from all previous jumping passes, the toepick-piano punctuated the suspension of this jump and the suspension of the whole program to this point)
as for GOE, the revolution is recognized, and landing kept free leg position. no big problem, all things considered, I will give 0.
Also, there is another detail need some attention. that is this 3LZ jumping patten is completely different from previous one, the first 3LZ is clockwise, backward cross-over to speed up, yet this one is counter clockwise, forward crossover then prepare jump entry.(usually the convenient way for skater is to put repeated jumps in similar jumping pattern and at similar area in the rink).

Yuna Adios Nonino Analysis:

counter clockwise LFO 3turn + RBO 3turn + mohawk accompanied by arm movement.
clockwise cross-over after counter clockwise turn (could pay attention to Yuna's ALL cross-overs in this program, every steps matches music )
Ina Bauer 2A-2T-2Lo
2A-2T-2LO, quality very high, ina Bauer entry. the rhythm of the combo jump is very good. could give +1 or +2 GOE. (this is Yuna’s signature ina bauer + 2A combo, and music interpretation wise also used Yuna’s signature music phrasing style, each jump landing matched one note in this swelling, glorious music phrasing. In Yuna's final dance, incorporated her signature move for the last time, a sense of nostalgia, very meaningful choreo intention. Yuna's sochi programs. both are very innovated yet left one place somewhere choreographically for nostalgia).

head and arm dance move expose
counter clockwise waltz jump accompanied by arm and free leg dance move
clockwise backward cross-over after counter clockwise turn
arm movement (matching music highlight) within cross-over
tango style dance expose (proceeding solo 3S)
3turn+ front T stop after landing accompanied by dance move (and matching music texture perfectly)
3S, the highlight of this solo jump is the sudden turn-stop after landing, accompanied dance move and matched music. the quality of the jump itself is also wonderful, could give +1 or +2 GOE (the idea of this dance move maybe inspired from male partner of Argentina tango, that push forward then sharp stop. watch fancam, the impact of this move is phenomenal, audience suddenly turned complete silence, a prefect and effective example of audience communication)
Similarly, in jumping pattern details, this solo jump used a completely different entry method from first 3S combo, in combo, 3S is counter clockwise, big curve skating speed up (utilized the short side of rink), yet this solo 3S is clockwise, almost like diagonal speed up.(Musically, also completely different. in 3S combo, curvy skating pattern, and tension within dance and knee rhythm, interpreted the sobbing of bandoneon, in solo 3S, it is dashing down the diagonal of long side rink with full speed to interpret the symphony of bandoneon added orchestra, ended with a sudden stop)

I honestly do think the Edge or Reference are more fitting places for all the analysis belongs to. Moreover, yyyskate isn't obliged to provide his valuable translations to the skater's fan fest. The Chinese skating fan's analysis (who is not Yuna's fan) demonstrates basically how the Sochi scandal occurred.

I do this only for Yuna fans here. Only for Yuna fans' appreciation of Yuna's Adios Nonino program. I have no intention to post this outside Yuna fan thread to possibly induce any kinda fan war or debate about Sochi scandal (some people in Yuzuru's program analysis thread in edge expressed similar concern about fan made analysis video got bashed).
Also, please do not re-post my translation outside Yuna fan thread.
for those, who are interested in all the analysis of Sochi lady skating. could visit frenchrabbit's weibo and read there.
I will only translate Yuna's Adios Nonino.

Yuna Adios Nonino Analysis:

head and hand dance move
pivot counter clockwise turn then dance expose (into layback spin)
side ways, side ways to back position transition
more than 8 revolution in back position
catch foot lay-back difficult position
LSp3, layback spin level 3, same design as SP.
level creteria:
1, tranistion from side to back layback position
2, more than 8 revolution in back layback position
3, catch foot difficult position
execution quality is similar to SP, could give +1 or +2 GOE. (well-centered and more than required revolution and clear side-back transition)

counter clockwise RBO 3turn
clockwise Mohawk and back cross-over after clockwise turn
LFI Spiral + LBI(Rocker)-LBO change-of-edge
hop accompanied by upper body dance move
counter clockwise RFI 3turn+ clockwise waltz jump accompanied by upper body dance move
RBIO change-of-edge accompanied by free leg swing and upper body dance move
Illusion
a sequence of counter clockwise 3turn+Mohawk combo
ChSq1, an excellent choreo step sequence. used plenty of large amplitude dance move. step component is well-packed and solid, not only has Spiral+rocker difficult combo.also has illusion, non-element jump etc .At the same time, it is well balanced in terms of change of directions. Artistically it builds along with music, foreshadowing the coming program climax. could give +2 and +3 GOE.(In later version of this Chsq1, Yuna took away twizzle sequence, and replace it with sharper and larger amplitude impact moves, such as waltz jump, illusion to matching the impact of piano note, also, Yuna used short spiral in both her SITC SP and Adios LP, yet completely different spiral and different steps/turns afterwards)

Yuna Adios Nonino Analysis:

2A, right after ChSq1, launch after just 1 or 2 cross-ovesr. After landing, directly change foot enter combination spin. At the end of a long program, such entry and landing is very challenging, quality wise has no problem, could give + 2 GOE.
This solo 2A jump also has completely different entry pattern from previous 2A combo, 2A combo used clockwise speed up. here used a very small counter clockwise skating curve.(musically, also different, 2A combo is Yuna’s signature glorious phrasing, here is matching rapid/building piano notes)
therefore, in this program, repeated 3 different jumps, whenever one jump is repeated, its jumping pattern is completely different from previous one, Details like this is easily to be ignored, and won’t add points to jumps directly. But it exhibited skater’s all-around ability and wholehearted sincerity.

2A directly transition into final spin
left leg camel change edge
left leg Broken leg sit difficult position
left leg side-way layback position
right leg camel position
right leg sit position
right leg I split upright difficult position
CoSP4, change foot combination spin level 4, level completed:
1 left leg camel change into outside edge
2 left leg Broken leg sit difficult position
3 right leg I-split upright difficult position
4 both legs contain 3 basic positions
as said above, spin right after 2A, no buffer at all, transition difficulty is huge.
In terms of execution quality, once again, it shows the balanced character of Yuna's spin capability.
all position maintained 3-5 revolutions, both legs has spins more than 13 revolutions. well matched music phrasing and climax, because both legs contains more than 3 basic position, speed is a little lacking, but still could give + 2GOE.

Yuna Adios Nonino Analysis:

the next part is PCS

skating skills:

As mentioned in Short program, Yuna’s basic skating skills is always improving.
this free skate similarly has very good use of edge and edge curve quality, skating is effortless and speed is maintained very well, giving the feeling of great balance/security and smoothness.
yet this long program skating is even better in terms of design. from over-all construction to skating curve details, all has new breakthroughs, showed her ultimate sincerity.
In terms of construction, usually, if a skater can manage skating and turns are balanced in both clockwise and counter clockwise directions, is already rare.
this program not only reached the well-balanced level, it also used a very rare yet more challenging way to “weave together” different direction changes.
except for the ending 2A, all other jumping passes, all started from a sequence of turns in one direction, then immediate change direction to accelerate. including both step sequence as well. which means, almost at every critical acceleration moment, skater has to convert from opposite inertia direction.
Such “twisted” design, if ability is just a little bit lacking, it will be very energy consuming while skating. which will negatively affect the over-all speed and smoothness of the performance, also will dissipate skater’s energy, and affect tech element and performing.
Yuna in Olympic season, challenged such design for the first time and successfully accomplished the challenge right away. Be it speed or flow, or tech or interpretation, all has not been affected at all.
This showed her supreme control ability, it is one of the highlight of skating skills.
The details of skating edge/curve is also very remarkable. also has new attempt/challenges.
as mentioned previous, whenever a jump repeats, a completely acceleration pattern will be used. The design has never been attempted in Yuna’s free skate before. In olympic season, make such change/attempt, maybe not obvious, but indeed an act of sincerity.
Lastly, wanna mention Yuna’s free leg. In this Tango, choreographed large amount of free leg dance to match music, among which, a lot of large amplitude move that uses knee and calf strength, actually, can easily affect skating efficiency and smoothness (e.g. those “brake” like moves, against flow not along with flow, yet very Argentina Tango).
Yet, Yuna not only full exhibited the beauty/flavor of these dance, also, did not let them affect the feeling of her skating a bit. this is commendable.

Yuna Adios Nonino Analysis:

Transition:

transiton in this program could be renowned as paradigm among lady’s free skate. it inflicted impactful impression in various aspects.
First of all, firm/Sharp mixed with Soft/sensual feeling of dance is everywhere. and integrated seamlessly with lower body steps/turns, which is even better than SP.
In free skate, almost, whenever steps/transitions appears, it always accompanied by various, complex head, arm, free leg dance moves, among which many has classic Tango flavor.
especially, some steps completed as cross-foot form, or accompanied by large amplitude free leg swing. All there enriched the flavor of tango style, enhance the beauty of esthetics as well as increased transition difficult casually.
Almost all transition steps tracelessly incorporated into Tango dance. when appreciate this program. It is hard to capture them separately.
meanwhile, transition difficulty and variety is very considerable among lady’s free skate.
difficult turns/steps and moves-in-the-field has vast variety and seamlessly incorporated within dance, these of course needless to say.Even if simple transition such as 3turn or two-foot skating, all has been given more meticulous and difficult design.
for example 3turn, either increase upper-body and free leg variety as much as possible, or places in sequential step/turn combo. Also, incorporated as many as possible different entry edges.
The transition in this program covered 6 different entry edge 3turn. every one used no more than 3 times.
As for two-foot skating, even if appeared transiently, was performed in the more unnatural twisted cross-foot form (thus more demanding) as much as possible.
Beside, as mentioned before, transition design, such as the sudden turn-stop after 3S, 2A directly into spin, sequential turns precede opposite direction acceleration of jumping pass.etc. All reflected the difficulty and variety/abundance of transition of this program from different aspects.
The quality of transition execution is excellent. meticulous. this is the shared features of top tier skaters like Yuna.
lower-body steps/turns are very clean and effortless, whole body dance finished complete and nuanced/polished. all these can maximally enhance the effect of transition, make already packed transition appears even fuller.

Yuna Adios Nonino Analysis:

performance/execution

after 7 years, Yuna performed Tango in competition for the second time.
compare to the fiery and extroverted style 7 years ago, this tango is more mature and introvert. on top of passion, a touch of understated/cold glamour is added. In terms of mood expression, is more of the interchange of personal reflection and subtle sentiment.
it is exactly such cold color toned interpretation style, let this Tango possessed new character different from the common sexy, seductive tango.
For a skater like Yuna who owns mature and nuanced performance ability. Such unique/individualized style can express her personality even more.
Of course, this will also bring big risk on the other hand.
From Olympic atmosphere perspective, such artistic orientation is difficult to carry and bring out the most enthusiastic atmosphere. if there is any lack in interpretation, program will appear bland and lack of impact/appeal.
However, Yuna relied on her accumulated ice presence and performance commanding ability. rendered to the greatest extend, different atmosphere of different parts of this program. Between stillness and motion, restrain and release, constructed sharp contract. this is also inline with the essence of real tango, the mingle of ice and fire.
not only makes every parts of the performance more attractive, due to the sufficient contrast, the release and crescendo of climax is also more exhaustive.
compare to 7 years ago, this tango is more refined/sophisticated in terms of posture and dance.
when dance tango, a stable/controlled upper body is crucial. Yuna’s upper body mostly is very upright. rarely any slackness or random/careless instability.
another feature need to be mentioned is the “firmness/hardness” in her dance.
Tango requires firmness as well as softness. usually, lady skater tend to perform softly. yet Yuna’s tango is also excellent in terms of firmness/sharpness, this is very rare.
to interpret the feeling of “Firmness”, the precise control of strength and move amplitude is indispensable. besides, moves like “instant stop”, Yuna also controlled spot on. All these made her dance felt clean and neat. greatly enhanced program’s aesthetic appreciation experience and impact。displayed luscious tango flavor.

(just wanna say, Yuna's Adios Nonino is real tango, and it seems more people outside of western world get it)

Yuna Adios Nonino Analysis:

Choreography:

In Yuna’s second olympic season, choreographer David Wilson chose this very famous music piece- Adios Nonino as her free skate music, which is a very challenging choice. How to make the program different from previous classic performances and create something new.How to make a 4 min tango free skate watchable and intriguing, satisfy people’s expectation of reigning OG champion. All there issues are difficult to tackle.
Yet, David Wilson once again exhibited his outstanding choreographic talent. Not only achieved breakthroughs in creativity/innovation, also thrived for the maximum polish in all aspects. in order to endow the program even higher artistic standard.
As mentioned before, this tango has a touch of “cold glamor” tone. This unique feeling is created through the combined effort of music version/editing, dance design and skater’s disposition and performance. It is very rare in lady’s tango skating programs. This is a major display of the ingenuity and creativity of this choreography.
Especially, music version is the important foundation. Through choosing a uncommon piano and bandoneon rendition Adios Nonino, different from all previous versions, and kept more improvised parts in music editing. Choreographer gave the FS music more personality and recognizability. Meanwhile, displayed an unique cold color tone inclined tint.
In addition, choreographer wanna uncover/explore more diverse and subtle aspects of personal emotion, through this rendition of adios nonino, this is also very original.
On top of that, choreography is crafted to the maximum level of refinement and sophistication, In order to bring the highest artistic experience, to make the audience completely absorbed within it and brought out the resonance of the whole arena. (This has actually been achieved during Yuna’s Adios Nonino performance itself, however, been completely flooded by narrow-minded patriotism before and right after her performance...)

Music editing itself is a good representation of sophistication. it kept the majority part of this adios noinio rendition’s prologue,2 themes: A and B. Skipped theme variation, directly transitioned into epilogue. structure is layered, clear(in main and subsidiary) and complete. In each segment, the music’s internal progression integrated with tech element passages, all brilliantly done. The prologue part, although relatively long, since its melody is rich. Also instrument composition has layers and variation, thus no lengthy feeling at all. From opening piano solo intro, to 3lz-3t jump combo, here comes the first emotional catharsis. After solo 3f, bandoneon debuts as the main instrument character, a more classic Argentina tango flavor started to emerge, foreshadowing the upcoming theme A. Theme A blossomed into its entirety in circular stsq, covering the whole stsq. At this time, the instrument composition is very complex, bandoneon is still kept as the main character, string instruments are added, the ratio of piano accompany is also enhanced, combined with Yuna’s affluent stsq performance, formed the climax and core of first half of this program.
After circular step sequence, music entered the B theme. It also progresses gradually internally.
Firstly, is a relatively slow and deliberate theme B display, it is bandoneon and piano’s intimate dialogue. At the time Yuna’s performance also revealed more layers and depths of emotion nuances. 2a-2t-2lo, lead by Ina Bauer, conducted the orchestral climax of theme B. with abundant emotion and romantic/swelling atmosphere, left a profound impression.
All these stops with the sudden stop of 3S. (To make it clear, the melody of theme A and B frenchrabbit refers to here is concentratedly played during circular stsq(theme A) and Ina Bauer-2A-2T-2lo jumping pass(theme B)).
Afterwards, the program entered the piano solo cadenza, through chsq and final 2A, the emotion is accumulated to the maximum. Which leads to the ultimate climax/carthasis of this program at final combination spin, bandoneon and orchestra joined again, completed the theme A’s final reoccurrence.

The dance of this program is another aspect that displays refinement and sophistication, it grasped the essence of Tango very successfully. we have talked about Yuna interprets the “firmness” feature of Tango very well, which cannot be achieved without detail-oriented choreo design. choreographically, through upright upper body posture, rapid and intense head, whole body dance, showed the ”firmness” aspect. Furthermore, intentionally designed relatively long suspension(or pose pausing)before or after it(“firm” type movement), to better highlight/contrast the explosiveness of movement.(remember Kurt Browning’s commentary during Yuna’s SITC in Sochi, “all those little pauses”, those pauses/suspension is not the commonly criticized “stand-still posing” in skating, there is no single point in Yuna’s Sochi programs where she is not skating. The feature described here or mentioned elsewhere by knowledgable people are a masterful skill universally utilized in many genres of dance)
yet “firmness” is not “stiffness”, thus “firmness” and “softness” are both required, “Softness” existed within “firmness”. Therefore, subtle dance details such as the ice touches of free leg toe picks, the gentle caress of finger cross cheeks etc. are utilized to interpret the “soft” part. Also, emphasis on the languid/casual/ease and lingering feeling upon movement completion.
In this way, the “firmness” and “softness” is greatly integrated and united in the dance.
“Softness” desolved within the frame of ”firmness”. “firmness” with the contrast of “softness”, is even more prominent, the symbiotic of “firmness” and “softness,” together created the picture of sensuality /tenderness beneath the firm exterior, left much food for audience to taste and retrospect.

Plus the afore mentioned numerous meticulously designed details in skating skills and transition parts, And the intention to express the intertwinement of internal feelings according to music changes, this program left a very refined, exquisite impression in all aspects, it is very unique, suited Yuna’s special personality, wonderful choreography.
(this part is quite difficult for me to translation, it could be better if you read the translation correspond to the specific part in the video, since you will know exactly what moves, it refers to. After reading this, you may feel some sorta of asian philosophy: ying and yang. But I wont say this program has any specific connection/intention to that, but concept like balance, contrast/conflict is universal in all ways of life. However, it could be one possible explanation, why Yuna's Adios Nonino or Homage to Korea speaks louder to Oriental fans)
