Jason Brown

Also, to pick up on an earlier post, here is Jason's Worlds LP on TDP "en directo", at about 34:48.

I did get "programa bonito". I do hope the rest of the commentary is bonito too.

I just listened quickly, but yes, it's very positive commentary. Basically they say he's not going to win but the audience loves him, they love him, his program is great, he has a ton of charisma, he's a dancer on ice. Don't have time to fully translate now but will try to do so later.

Tavi has captured most of the high points of the commentary. It's interesting to me because the "ole`" ladies as I call them ( I LOVE them) almost seem like they are at a loss for superlatives when it comes to Jason. They describe everything as beautiful -- beautiful 3-3 combo, beautiful catch-foot, 3A, program, spins. A couple additional things:
--He has an amazing arabesque spiral that even the ladies can't do.
--They really like Jason and say that few have this much charisma.
--They compliment his spins and say that they are very difficult and very unique variations.
--They comment on the Japanese fans, but I couldn't quite catch what they said. It may have been that Jason is super popular with the Japanese fans.
--They comment on the beautiful simplicity of the music and how for the most part it is only piano except for a few short sections where there are also strings.

And I guess it wasn't my imagination, I found that the commentators in general babbled a lot less during Worlds commentaries, although these 2 are not babblers. They seemed to do a brief introduction, name the jumps during the performance, and then make more comments during the replay. Fine by me!

Thx to all for translations :thank: At least with the Italians, and "bellissimo" every other sentence, I can get *some* sense.... and still searching vainly for a French one. ;)

As for YOI tweet, heavens to betsy, even I knew that one. Well, thanks to the Boards. (The only anime I have ever watched in my life was part of one episode with the Leo character. I'm glad folks watch it and I'm glad skating is popular, but I didn't need to see it again). So why mention it now? Hmmm......

The Yuri on Ice animator/artist responded to Jason's tweet with of photo of Jason at WTT and a picture of Leo from the 2017 YOI calendar (Did I know such a thing existed before today ... no ):

Bing translate: Watching Jason Brown in the cheering section in the national competition, "calendar is a reality! "And I'm excited I am.

OMG that is too funny - s/he's got the Jason mannerisms down perfectly - and that hat!

ETA this is google translate:

Looking at Mr. Jason Brown who is in the cheering seat in the game against the country, it is mine that the calendar was making a reality !!

OK, this is really attenuated, and maybe striking only to me, but it *is* off-season....

While looking for French commentary vids, I found the following article about a ten year old French boy who is a competitive skater. I don't understand the French system at all (heck, below juniors, I don't understand the US system either), but young Hugo is evidently quite the phenom.

http://www.lhebdo17.fr/patinage-surgeres -hugo-10-ans-et-vice-champion-de-france/

Hugo was asked who his role models are. He named three: Yuzuru Hanyu (OGM, World Champion check), Javier Fernandez (World Champ, European, check) and...

Jason.

Maybe I'm too easily impressed, but of all the skaters this French kid could have named after Yuzu and Javi, he named Jason.

Yessss!:clapper:

(it sounds like the poor interviewer tried to get him to come up with someone French, and the best he could do was "maybe a little Philippe Candeloro". And being French, he had to throw Pap/Ciz in there too:biggrin:)

Isn't he just the cutest! Does anyone know what the age requirement for jgp is? When can we expect to see him compete?

13 on July 1 of that year. So he would have to be 13 on July 1 2017 to compete next season.

You have to sign up for an account, it seems.

I just did it. Kind of annoying process but not involved and free. I thought maybe we'd get hints of his program music but I don't think that's the case. On the other hand, so far I like his taste in music!

Spotify has lots of cool playlists-- and it's a good way to preview a lot of albums before you buy them. I use it everyday pretty much --

I may love Jason, but Sirius/XM is all I can handle right now; I won't sign up for Spotify even for Jason;)

Looking at the list, wow, you would think he was a young person or something, and that I was like, older:laugh2: I have only ever heard the name Sia because I recently attended a high school a cappella concert contest (that's a thing now) and three of the schools did tunes by "Sia". How many Sias can there be? Beyonce, you can't escape, Justin Timberlake, ditto, and I know Ed Sheeran because of Josh. Can't tolerate Hallelujah (well, since it's been covered 85 gazillion times, can't take the original or Jeff Buckley, I don't mind the cover Deanna and Nate used).

I'll let the rest of you tell me if someone living in the past of *way* old school RnB would approve Jason's list.

This is a good playlist - I guess Jason is a big fan of Sia.

I wonder if USFS is going to put more playlists up from other skaters.....we'll see.

I like almost everything on this list including all the stuff by Sia, but I think my favorite is Rise Up by Andra Day. But then I also like Writing's on the Wall. Consider yourself warned, el henry!

Well, Jason made me like Writing's on the Wall, I now hum it and I have decided that Sam Smith is not as sharp as my completely untrained ear once thought. So if he skates to Sia, God bless all the high school groups making music with her (and I mean that sincerely), he may make me like her too.
