Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

Since my most vivid memory of the Chopin program is the 2015 version with the two quads, as that was the version I've watched first and the most, this version of Chopin he is doing in FaOI actually feels different to me. It's a work in progress, there are spaces where some choreography could be improved and there are things I'm not quite sold on yet (first spin's timing in particular) but there are some amazing touches in the second half that make it fresh to me. So after an initial apprehension, I'm now becoming quite accepting of Chopin 3.0. I do have hopes that falling onto the familiar notes of Chopin gives him the confidence and security to be able to work on a great and technically more advanced new FS. Also, I never thought I'd appreciate the day 4T3T came back into play, considering I've thought that abandoning 4S3T in the SP could feel like a defeat to him, but after watching the 4T combo landed right on cue in all three shows, I'm now quite happy about it.

Same! I actually love Chopin and don't really mind that he is repeating it. Chopin 3.0 feels pretty rough around the edges though, very unsure what I think about the first spin - it doesn't really work with the rising intensity in the music in my opinion :tantrum:. And like you said some of the choreography could be better, pretty sure the program will evolve. Bit worried how much they can fix the spin though, since there needs to be three spins and I understand why he wants the two jumping passes in the second half (they work quite well in themselves). I'm pretty sure the program will be a bit different by the time next season start - it is only May after all ;)

I do hope though he is doing something new in the free skate though. I'm not liking the rumor that he might do Seimei again, for selfish reasons (new programs please ) but also I don't really think it would be a good idea. Repeating two programs is a bit too much and I don't think it would play out well. Doing a new Seimei is just a rumor though, so I'm not going to think about it too much.

I think it is really a thoughtful choice for Yuzu to go back to Chopin since he seems much more confident in his Chopin than LGC. Now he even skated a clean Chopin in an ice show! Can't wait for next season already.

Chopin and Yuzuru - that's a very special and obviously still well working relationship. Same with his brilliant 4T+3T combination - a scary consistency and top quality execution. Love it!
Where did he try the 4Lz and 4Lz+2T combination? Are there any videos uploaded already? Can't wait to see them

By the way: I'm laughing every single time when watching a group performance with Yuzuru. His moves are so striking and energetic - it's impossible to overlook him  I'm sure even in a pillow fight he always gives 110%

I've come to hope that if this were to indeed happen, that it'd be more like what RJ2 was to RJ1 and not so much a repeat 2015 Seimei; different music cuts (the movie's OST is like 2h long) with only the slightest reference to the first iteration as a callback and thematic thorough-line could work very well. On the other hand, if it were just repeating Seimei as is, with just slight modifications to accommodate for a slightly different jump layout... not really what I would feel happy about, in the light of him already doing Chopin too.

Since no one knows what his FS will be at this point, this is just rumors anyway. :drama:

I think Chopin as SP corresponded really well with Seimei as LP. Like...if he skated to Chopin as SP and used Hope & Legacy as LP that wouldn't correspond as well. So I hope whatever he chooses will be something different different to Chopin. Something fast, maybe with drums. There should be contrast between both programs.

Video of Yuzuru's clean Chopin 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UqjSC9bsQk. He ends with a fist pump. I am reminded of the fist pump he did when he successfully split a watermelon while blindfolded. Yuzuru loves it when he succeeds in challenging himself. :)

While i understand the "Not again!" reactions from some fans at his going back to Chopin, there will be I think many casual viewers of figure skating at the Olympics, who will see him (and his Chopin SP) for the first time and I trust will be won by him and that program and hopefully become followers of the sport, just like what happened in Sochi with PW.

For my part, I have always loved this program, which I think is his most elegant and ethereal. He also looks so princely in his costume with the cummerband and long sleeves fitted at the wrists. What I noticed for this new version is that his arm movements during the step sequence seem less frenetic, softer and more rounded. I think this may well be Yuzuru's highest scoring SP yet.

-Here's the entire Fantasy on Ice 2017 broadcast.

Fantasy on Ice has a slight problem with live singers. Some years it's great, and some years, it's not. :palmf: Some musicians are just not suited to live singing. It's not a dig against their talent, but maybe the cold from the rink made things difficult. This time, unfortunately, most of the live singing was kind of awful.
Thank you so much for the video links! Yesterday I was desperately searching for them, but didn't find anything.

I didn't want to say it but once you mentioned... It felt pretty low quality, especially I felt it during Pogo's skate , beautiful song "The Rose" was ruined. Actually I am glad Yuzuru didn't do any collab this time. I was hoping to see more serious singers and musicians.. the one with Kotaro san and Okamoto was really wonderful. I never listen to pop but even the one with Che Nelle was miles better and very high quality. Do they have same singers in Kobe and Niigata? I haven't checked.

I'm not sure who will go to Kobe.

I've read "Ice Jewels" today at the bookstore, I didn't buy it so I can't translate but this is what I remember.

・He came to measure his fat and muscle and make good use of it for training and it worked very well before WC.

・He is not thinking of putting 4Lz very much.

・Now he is confident in 4T because he can do it like his 3A, and he can land it in the 2nd half with the same quality of 4T in the first half.He limited the number of 4T in the practice so he had to really focus on them, and it led to the good quality eventually.

・(about H&L) He knew he could have more clean performances with the layout of the last year, he can perform "Seimei" program very easy now, he can do it clean anywhere at any condition. However he really wanted to do 4 quads programs including 4Lo this season for the next season.

・He thinks there are a lot of things to be learned from Medvedeva because she can keep performing cleanly in every competition. (I think he was talking about her mental state mainly)

There was Brian's interview and he said he received the letters from Yuzuru's fans saying "why are you letting Yuzuru do 4S?" ()

My overall impression was that he basically said 2016-2017 was difficult season but he really needed it for the next season. It was long interview, probably 8-10 pages. I hope we're able to read more accurate translation :)

Anri, Norimasa Fujisawa, Kohshi Kishita are in Kobe and Niigata, but I only know Anri. I really liked CheNelle and Sarah Àlainn :)
