Alexander Petrov

I've seen a very short clip of Sasha's gala performance at Tartu. He landed a perfect 3A, smooth as butter (ie. the usual).

Edited to include the test skates. Dates for that have yet to be officially confirmed.

Mishin interview on Rsports:

Sasha's SP is indeed Sabre Dance. [IMO Way too obvious from Misha Ge's instagram post.]

The basic structure of the program was created by Misha Ge and the rest done with the assistance of Ramil Mehkdiev.

Mishin says Sasha is a very consistent skater, the most stable of his generation. Sasha is currently learning 4F.

No new info here. But we do get confirmation on the SP music. [LRK's worst fears coming true?]

I am unfortunately old enough to remember the last time an 18 year old Mishin student skated to Sabre Dance.

Anyone want to take a guess who that was and what year that was?

Actually, a few weeks ago I made 3 predictions [regarding programs] privately:
1. Sabre Dance for Sasha's SP
2. Flamenco for Lazukin's SP
and #3...
I hope it does not come true. But we will only find out at either the test skate or Sasha's opening competition of the season, whichever comes first.

I did like the part where he said something like "he doesn't give gifts to his rivals".

And as for that... yeah, I'd given up hope that it would be anything but. One may cling to a straw, but still looking at it, one knows that it is a very flimsy support indeed.;)

ETA - Just to note: I have yet not reconciled, however.

What is the #3?

I am just resigned really, abt this and all the other things (not referring to Mishin). I've reached my limit, nothing more to give. So from now on, I will just do what I want to.

Sounds like a good plan!

Sasha is on the candidates list for the Russian National team (main team). While the final team composition has seldom differed from the candidates list, it isn't written in stone yet.

Ballet performance of Sabre Dance. Before Misha Ge edited his post, his description of the SP was "sword dance with royal". Sabre Dance doesn't have anything to do with royalty though, it's a folk dance. I hope Mishin is interpreting it correctly. And the costume should be red and black, it has to be. Those are Sasha's best colours as well.

A couple people have pointed out to me that Sabre Dance is an old-fashioned piece and a 6.0 era type music for skating. This is a very modern Russian skater we have here. While I am concerned, I am also very interested to see how the program will turn out, whether working with Ramil Mekhdiev can give the performance a bit more of an edge. I also think that the version/cut of the music that they choose will be very important.
