Yes, they are. They're very good. But that has nothing to do with the quality of Russian ice dance. The sport is more international than it has been in the past. The competition is much deeper than it ever was prior to the current millenium. And Carreira & Ponomarenko are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to 2nd generation Russian-American ice dancers emerging on the U.S. dance scene.
All that said, I do think that Russia might benefit from more international exchange between their dance coaches and the coaches in North America. (I know there are already some, though we don't hear about it). Italy seems to me to be setting themselves up to become a European ice dance hub, with Fusar-Poli, Margaglio, and Scali all having worked or working under top international coaches (more than one, generally) and gaining a wider perspective. Italian athletes have trained under Russian coaches and coached under North American coaches. It's to Italy's benefit in the long game, I think. The current generation of Russian dance coaches has definitely rebuilt from the exodus in the 1990's; but there is still room to grow & it would be great to see some of these Russian coaches/teams striving to set new standards within the sport.
Well yes Russia must change everything about how it does dance to be Win worlds and Olympics again! It must adopt North American Styles and tech methods. The Italian system is just North American in Italy! That's why powers of ice dance now is North America, Italy and then Russia. Russia has fallen behind drastically and dramatically which is why c/p medaled and s/s and s/a didn't! Even if c/p didn't medal the other frontrunner was North American. Even though American champions had big mistake and mess of a lift they still beat the Russian team l/d which everyone assumes will break up before the new season even starts!

Yup. There are also whispers that their coach is Ilinykh. Bagin is also skating with Anabelle Morozov. Ilinykh did some work with them recently. Secret wish, Shibnev skates with Ilinykh. He isn't really a good match with Mrs. Morozov. IMHO, that is.

I heard Mrs Morozov is more interested in her blog than skating, in fact I'm not sure she is still skating.
Elena looks to be in good shape, so maybe Shibnev would be interested?

They thoroughly deserved their success last season - it was a Judging disgrace that McNamara/Carpenter were held up in 3rd after a disastrous FD in the GPF. Christina has improved and matured hugely, and Anthony is good but not "great" yet. They are a very good couple who had attractive programs which held up well over the season, but calling teenage icedancers "already great" means they haven't got far to improve, and Anthony undoubtedly will over the coming years, and I speak as someone who saw the whole of his parents' illustrious career.
To my eyes she (Mrs. M) looked a bit too big for him. He has a really good figure, and a nice build. If Lena were willing he could be a good match for her. He seems fairly well adjusted. Hope springs eternal as they say.
On the other hand, its weird but I do think Lozko and Pitkeev could be entertaining. But how would his back handle the lifts and spins?

Who is this annabelle morozov I heard about? She's supposed to have a lot of charisma and I think she'll be coached by her father ? I think she has a new partner, so they're a new team and not in danger of making the olympics. I hear that weaver and poje, also coached by father morozov, are not going to get much attention this year because their coach will be focused on his daughter? 
What made the judges start to think less of weaver and poje? Did something happen?

That was my first thought when I heard the news. I can't really picture it yet, but I'm very curious how it will all work out.
Really, have you considered Bagin, Vlasenko, and Mozgov?
I think he's actually quite good; very elegant, long lines, nice edgework, decent twizzles knows how to present his lady, points his toes. Not bad. With the right coaching he could be quite good.
On a shallow note, he's easy on the eyes as well

So sad having to be around katsalapov is destroying bobrova spirit! It's always something! Bad coaching in Olympic year, bad injury to soloviev, bad doping rule, now bad training environment messing her mentally! So sad.
