Jason Brown

I love what I've seen of the FS and the way the music builds to a dramatic finale. The music could be described as The Piano on steroids. I look forward to watching Jason and Rohene develop and refine it over the season. :luv17:

Watching this in person, it was so clear he hasn't had it long. I think it will be glorious when it all comes together and he is able to fill those phrases out!

As you did on FSU, I'm going to link to all the segments in order:

:jaw: :points: :hb: Wow! I'm in. I'm in love with the dramatic pause in segment two. Had to watch it a couple times. Such a perfect program for Jason!

I completely missed that Jason was at Skate Milwaukee this weekend! I think his SP will take some time to grow, and I'll have to get used to the music cuts - I always struggle when I piece I know very well is cut up. Tavi, I think you were right on when you said he needs to develop the character more. But if he goes clean, especially with a quad and a strong step sequence at the end, it could be great.

His FS - I think I love the final pose. I think it may be a little too similar to The Piano for me for now (I was a fan of the Piano, just ready to see something a little different I think).

Looking forward to Glacier Falls!

Totally in love with both. Hamilton is definitely broadway but has a slightly more lyrical component to it.. the audience was into it and that's a really good sign.. non-stop but looks easier on the back. Great!! The butt spin is varied slightly too, gives it more aesthetic appeal

FS music reminds me of something...... so, for me, it could not be better. That ending move is beautiful and the "man spiral" is l-o-v-e-l-y.....

:thank: everyone for the posts... so gratefull.

I think these are both going to be really good programs for Jason. I like that he has more of a contrast between the two programs this year. The FS music is beautiful but it's definitely like a cross between T&I and The Piano, which is a good style for him, but I'd also like to see him do something different. But I guess they have been taking the last few years to find the perfect style and that's what they're using for the Olympic year. Makes sense.

Well, of course I like Hamilton, but I keep humming the chorus of "the room where it happens" too, even though I heard the song for the first time last week.;) Not sure how well the rap portions will play; if I were them, I'd keep the chorus on continual loop. And click-bang.

Well, "Orchestral Son of Piano" is knocking them dead already. Classic Jason, and I am loving the mix of that and the SP.

I did see a local Milwaukee station with a lot of stories about the comp, but no interview or vids of Jason. However, everyone from the nine year old competitor to the show organizer mentioned "And we have Jason Brown"

I can see why Jason sees both programs as his most challenging yet. Upon another look, both programs look incredibly subtle and simple (or seem less busy anyway), but I think he does even FEWER crossovers here than he did in his previous programs -- and there were not a lot in those programs anyway. There's a lot of new transitions in and out of jumps -- the crazy ones for me is where he lands a jump does one step and then he does a spin -- no prep whatsoever. Or the Russian spilt into the 3S.

It will be interesting how they'll balance maintaining the choreography without setting him up to not succeed on the technical side.

I'm curious... who placed 2nd and 3rd to Jason in Milwaukee? Anyone we know?

I like Jason's new LP... gonna wait to pass judgment on the SP.

Only four guys skated. Jordan Moeller skated last and they didn't announce his score before I left. Assuming Jason won (as per the person who took these clips) Jordan would have placed second, because the other two guys - Nicholas Vrydolyak (represents Croatia) and Benjamin Jalovick - were pretty far back. I think Nicholas placed ahead of Ben so he was third.

To be honest, since Jason deliberately doubled all his jumps but one in the FS, I thought Jordan might have beaten him. But the girl who took all these clips said Jason won so Jordan must have come second. Jordan was more than 10 points behind Jason after SP (72 / 85), did most of his planned jumps in FS, but fell on a couple in later part of program (likely stamina). So I guess even though Jason's FS score was quite low, he still won, FWIW. Jordan is skating to Clair de Lune by Debussy. It's a beautiful program and he did really well overall - just needs a bit more time.

Well, after reading so many positive comments about the long program, I was sure I was going to love the new music. I listened many times with head phones last night and this morning and, sorry, Jason, I don't love it. I wish I did. It sounds monotonous to me and needs more oomph. IMO the build at the end just isn't enough. I loved T&I and was optimistic about this, but I don't think it's nearly as good. Personal opinion and all. I like the choreography and Jason looks great skating it, even at this early stage, but I can't get into the music. Maybe it needs sound effects. ;)

I liked the music, but I think it's going to be much more spectacular in the arena than on TV. The Shibs' free dance music was like that; it sounded very subtle and even monotonous on video, but seeing it in person at Worlds was SO different - the music just filled the arena!

Sorry to hear that!

It is very different than T&I, which was quite dramatic in the sense of actually telling the story of Tristan and Iseult. It had music (and sound effects) that clearly narrated events - drinking water, sword fight etc. My thought is that this piece is more about an emotional journey. I hope it will grow on you, but if not...at least you have Hamilton!

It's probably the loose Desplat connection (Jason's music based on a film score by him) --but I'm getting major Evgenia Medevedeva vibes from this program (who did a program to a different Desplat soundtrack last season).

Not that Jason's emulating her style -- but more the general feel of the music.

I agree that the Shibsibs FD has a similar vibe. For me it's not as dramatic as T&I or bare as Piano. It has more of the cerebral feel that the Shibs' Evolution FD did. Honestly, if he was an ice dancer, he probably be seeing as going the crazy lyrical trend there, but among the men it will definitely stand out.

ETA: And Tavi got it "emotional journey," just like Evolution was very much about the Shibs "emotional" journey. If you haven't seen the ShibSibs FD -- the programs aren't the same but have similar vibes.

OK, since we all love Jason, this should be taken in the lighthearted spirit in which it is intended....

am I the only one who, when hearing the water sound in T&I, thought "flushing toilet":slink:

Haha. Though I love that he's skating to Hamilton, he didn't choose my favorite song, so I'm still on the fence about that one. :) Hoping the audio from GF will be good so I can get a good sense of Room.

I'm sure the LP music will grow on me, but the only movie during which I've ever fallen asleep in a theater is Danish Girl . Soooo, this one was going to be an uphill battle from the start.

I actually haven't seen it. Does the FS or its music remind you of the movie, or were you asleep too quickly to recall? :p
