2017-18 State of U.S. Ladies Skating

I'm ok with the USFSA waiting as long as is needed to get a good assessment, but also allowing the competitor enough advance notice to prepare adequately. Whoever is picked should show competitive form when they are selected, without assuming she will improve with a bit more time. If Polina performs the 3Lz, 3F and a 3-3 soon, she should be near the top of the list.

It's unlikely at this point. Last pics she had of the Lutz was on the harness. If she's not comfortable doing then in a club comp, it may be several weeks before she's ready to even attempt them. Champ camp invites have to go out soon. So the decision has to be made as little as a week.

I think Bradie has this spot. It's because in the last two years they chose people with potential for the last spot. Mariah was chosen because of her performance in 2015 nationals. Angela was chosen because she medalled at the Challenger Series. Bradie medaled last season and she's scored pretty high over the summer. She'll probably get the invite.

I think Bradie Tennell is much more likely than Tessa Hong. Right now, of the skaters without GP assignments, Courtney, Caroline and Bradie are the most likely picks.

Summer comp scores from those 3:
Bradie Tennell 190.76 Broadmoor Open
Courtney Hicks 187.42 Skate Detroit
Caroline Zhang 182.67 Glacier Falls

Bradie & Courtney are both at Philly this weekend; that could have some influence.

Well since the decision has to be mad enough in two weeks (which I didn't realize), it does seem like it'll come down between Bradie and Courtney, with Caroline and Polina as dark horses, since Caroline outskated them at Nationals last year and because I imagine Polina's overall competitive record internationally does give her some pull with USFS.

I personally hope it goes to one of the younger ladies, Bradie or Polina. Since the spot is evidently going to go to someone who won't make GPF and is not the most likely to go to the Olympics/Worlds, I would rather see the spot go to a lady who has more competitive years ahead of her and can get good experience with this spot.

U.S. sends two junior girls to Asian Open this year, which will take place this week.
Not knowing anything about them, I searched youtube videos,
and these are the result.

SP: https://youtu.be/7n3YQnECmCo
FS: https://youtu.be/mha-gBitDso

Wow, this girl, Audrey Shin has all the goods to compete with Russians, Japanese & Koreans!
She has 3F+3T in her SP, which is the key element to compete with top juniors this season,
even with a very difficult entrance:love:
To me, she seems to be a better skater than Kaitlyn Nguyen
because of her more mature presentation.

@Asian Open, she will compete with Japanese top Juniors, Kihira & Yamashita,
also with Korea's Top Juniors Lim & Kim.
Even without the presence of Russian junior ladies,
this is going to be one of the most exciting junior ladies competition of this summer.
If Audrey beats any of these four girls, I assume that she has an ability to medal @JGP.

Junior ladies SP will be held 8/4, and FS on 8/5.
Results: http://www.hksu.org/event/aofst2017/index.htm
Live stream: youtube.com/user/MegaIceHK

Live feed is only on 8/5, and I am not sure that Junior ladies competition is included or not.
However, usually videos shot by fans are uploaded to youtube within a half day or so.

wow she's great! looks like she probably has a bright future ahead of her. her facial expressions remind me of yuna!

Also US sends two Novice girls, Alysa Liu & Stephanie Ciaroch.
Somebody posted Alysa's Youtube link here before, and she is the super girl.
Here are her performance @recent Glacier Falls Summer Classic.

FS:https://youtu.be/cVVEuJlR4d4

She will win @Asian Open easily since nobody else has this kind of technical contents.
Also Stephanie Ciaroch is a good skater.

SP:https://youtu.be/BwhN7NRjWLI
FS:https://youtu.be/7_JWUaFImok

I can hardly believe she is only 12 years old,
and not only her physical appearance but also her presentation is so mature.
However, she needs more difficulty in the jumping department.

This is a Japanese skater, Mana Kawabe who competes with them @Asian open.
Interesting to compare these three.

FS:https://youtu.be/GWLvSEH34wQ

She has wonderful presentation along with good speed and skating skills.
Asian Open starts 8/02, but it is going to start tonight North American time.
They will compete 20:15 local time.

Ok I get that Champs Camp is in a couple of weeks but does the final SA TBA decision HAVE to be set in stone by then? I really doubt. I don't think there is a rule that states that all of the Team USA SA competitors have to attend Champ Camp.

I get that USFA wants its top skater at Champs Camp so that they can tweak the program as necessary, but at this point I really don't think there is a clear choice of the 3rd US spot. If I were on the USFA Selection Committee, I would either invite a several of the possibilities and tell them that they are possibilities OR just skip inviting the possibilities.

In the past, SA was in September so deciding who was the TBA in August made sense. But I don't think that same logic applies this year since SA is at the end of November.

Skate America has never been hosted in September. SA is usually hosted mid-to-late October (and very occasionally November), never earlier.

Does anyone have a link to bradie tennell's programs from the broadmoor open? She apparently scored high. I know she has a triple-triple, but she's skating to Cinderella this year, and she needs to stand out somehow...

I guess I remembered incorrectly. In 2010, it was held in Novermber but since then, it was held in October (usually the 3rd weekend). So that makes it about 6 weeks later than in recent years.

Without an obvious "leader" at this point in the, season, I hope USFS leaves the spot open until after Champs Camp.

If Bradie scores in thr same range as she has in the last two competitions, the spot is most likely hers. She's the "leader" at the moment. If Courtney scores well and isn't picked up as a TBD slot, she's next.

If USFS planned these ladies to go to these two competitions then they were very shrewd, but it well played. They planned these competitions well! GF and Philidephia international were within a week of each other. On the list of both were several people that could be considered for SA. Amber Glenn, Courtney, Carolina, Bradie, Polina, Angela, and Vivian. This way they get to see before Champs Camp who would be best for the SA slot. Not to mention who is getting two CS slots, who gets one, and who may not get any at all.

Also they get to examine Karen preparation before Champ Camp, two competitions back to back since she has a history of being inconsistent. Both Starr and Tessa get their technical minimums for senior. Plus, the both of them and Kaitlyn get one more competition with feedback from USFS officials one month before the JGP. Finally, they got a chance to see how Polina was doing with her recovery. It feels like USFS is taking more of a hands on approach.

But I still feel there should be test skates. :confused2:

What is happening with Alexia Paganini? She is not listed in the ISP nor is she an alternate for the JGP. She recently passed the test to compete sr., and has posted some impressive jumping passes. Why is she left off the lists?

Something must have happened in the background because I can't think of any reason that Nina Oulette would be on the ISP and not Alexia.

That said a lot of girls were kicked off the list that were on it last season. For instance Vivian Le, Brynne, Sierra and Gabrielle Noullet were all removed too. Alexia just did her first competition last week, where most of the ladies on the junior level ISP have competed at a monitored competition. Plus there are several talented rising juniors that they want to give international experience like Hanna, Audrey, and Ting. While some of the additions I find baffling, it makes sense that she didn't make the cut yet. There are only so many senior and junior slots. She still has time to earn her way back on the ISP.

Kicked off what list????

Alexia performed all right last year (higher than some on the list), is training, and doing triples as seen on her Instagram. The others removed all did poorly in their JGP if they went, and also skated poorly at nationals if they qualified. That's why I am perplexed about Alexia. I am hoping she is not injured.

She's not injured. That's why said something has to have happened in the background. She wasn't good enough to justify keeping her, so something had to have happened to push her off the list. Like I said before, she needs to compete and have good results so she can get back on it. Instagram videos is not enough.

Has anyone heard anything about Tyler Pierce lately? I miss seeing her compete and the news on her has been pretty nonexistent for a long time now.

I've seen nothing on her social media and I'm worried now. She has no competitions scheduled so far. She's been taken off the ISP. I'm beginning to think she's retired on account of her injury.

i'm thinking this too :( if that is the case its really too bad, she had a lot of talent. beautiful jumps. I haven't seen anything posted on her social media or anywhere having to do with skating either.
