Just curious about this video posted by the Twitter user who posted the 4Lz (couldn't see that on the link), it seems Kenji said that Shoma is sexy several times, or maybe I misheard it for my own entertainment?

Latremu, yep Kenji introduced Sho's sexy while skating. After watched his Loco everyone said, ahh sexy❤️
We all know he's adorable, cute AND sexy 😀

Prepare for the worst, fanfest, someone opened a Shoma Uno's Quad Lutz Thread in the Edge. Here we go again.....:slink:

Especially with the Loco red outfit, I mean... where's the lie? :luv17:

Xeyra, definitely no lie ... either in the reality ("mighty thighs", anyone?) or in what Kenji actually said, as confirmed by Kanna! Thanks for confirming it! I wonder if Shoma has seen these shows and how he feels when people call him sexy? I can't think of him as a "sex god", though! :drama: He looked like a kid just less than a year ago! :slink: (Okay, I AM in auntie mode. Geez.)

Good thing I don't visit the Edge much (in all fairness, no derogatory comments in that thread yet, though). I see unflattering comments on Youtube and Tumbler already. I will prepare to be immune to the word "flutz" (Hi to One Flutz Away!). Hugs to all for this upcoming season! :ghug:

I think Shoma's sexy - he's almost 20, and I think it's okay to think that. I didn't think of him like that in his debut season, he's definitely become more man than boy.

Yes, but just wait a bit, the comments will come - critisizing Shoma is the biggest pleasure for some people. You know that link to the 3A-4T? People even hated on that combo even though Shoma never jumped it in competition. It's never "Wow, great that he's challenging himself and trying to improve" it's always "He's a cheater and with his faulty technique, he will never get better." Add fake "concern" for his future and there we go again...*sigh*

Oh yeah, and I really take issue with people using the word "cheat" in reference to things like jump technique - skaters work far too hard to be dismissed so easily.

Sorry, it seems I deleted a post by mistake- the jist is, I posted about Shoma's Lutz in the edge, and I really don't want it to attract hate for him. I love his fighting spirit and the way he responds to critics by upping his game..

It's been awhile since we've had a good "S**t On Shoma" thread. It will remind me of the bad ole days. And yes, I just LOVE the fake concern for "poor" Shoma. Reminds me of how I said even skaters with stellar / perfect technique get injured. The trolls then said that I said that poor technique doesn't matter. Amazing how people take things and give them just a little 1/8 of a turn twist...I think I'll focus on the fact that he is actually HERE because he really cares about improving. 4Lz? Does he really need it? I'll concentrate more on watching his jumps today rather than shooting videos of my foot like I did yesterday! {{:palmf:}}

Let's face it - there are some people who just don't even like the way Shoma breathes. Whatever! :confused2:

I still remember an interview where Kenji told Shoma he was looking more manly. :drama: I think Shoma said "no, no, no, no" about 10 times. It was so funny! Kenji says the craziest stuff. I can't even imagine anyone in the U.S. interviewing someone and making remarks like that. Poor Shoma. Another award-winning comment from Kenji was how Shoma had long eyelashes! Who says stuff like that?! :dumb:

ahh i see thank you for the info :)

Welcome Little Lady. Alex Ouriashev is known as a great jump technician and has helped many people. Coach Frank Carroll and many others send skaters to Alex for jump training. There is always a lot of action at Alex's rink, and you never know who might show up on any given day.

MaiKatze, I'm wondering if Sho will work with Alex for a few days prior to going to Skate Canada. It would also give him a chance to overcome his jet lag a bit. It's not super convenient in terms of flights, but it would give him another opportunity to work with Alex for a bit and fine tune the jumps now that they would be fully integrated into his programs. He did that prior to Skate America last year, and it seemed to really help.

Yes, looking at ShoSho's schedule I think going to Chicago before Skate Canada really should work. There are several big 'gaps' in between where he can add another one or two training weeks.

And, haha, lol...fake concern, Arriba, I just KNEW it would happen. Precious, how predictable. And to think we're still in the off-season! :whack:

@emipeters
You might have not meant to, but opening such threads in the Edge is doing exactly that. Have you been here during the last season? There have been innocent threads that turned into something else before. Most of us know why that is, but I won't get into this topic in public ever again. That thread is wonderful, though, because it gives me a chance to see who to put on ignore before the season starts for real.

@MaiKatze I've been lurking here a while, but only posting recently. I actually thought that the forum had calmed down a bit recently - there was a mass exodus of posters from Yuzu's fan fest some months back which I was grateful for - I'm a huge Yuzu fan, but that thread was unreadable for a while. Anyway, things had seemed to have cooled off, and I thought that a thread in the Edge would be a little more positive - congrats to Shoma, speculation on who might be learning what quad next and so on. Really disappointed with some of the responses so far on that thread - it never fails to surprise me that people will be so egregiously negative about young people who really put so much effort and determination into what they do, which is naive I know. But it's really unfathomable to me that people can watch a video of a young guy really giving it his all, everyday, and only have shade to throw. I'm excited to see Shoma's lutz in competition, whatever flaws other people think it has. I know he's going to make it epic.

Hey, you sound genuine and I didn't want to come over as too harsh...I've been lurking in this forum since 2011 and am a member since 2012. If you had opened that thread a few years ago, you probably would have had more luck in getting a nice civil discussion. I knew as soon as you made that thread what would happen. You might think it was an exodus, but it really wasn't. You will see when the next season comes. Those people haven't left. And that's not the paranoid in me speaking. :sarcasm:

I'm not a blind follower, I know that Shoma has weaknesses and his jumps aren't as good as some of the other skaters. I'm not sure if adding the Quad Lutz is the right strategy as even the triple has made a lot of trouble for him. But then I think of Shoma's determination. The way he conquered the 3A when it gave him so much trouble. How he added the Loop last season, how he skated almost clean at Worlds. Honestly, it's fine if people keep moaning about him. Shoma is tougher than that. He will prevail no matter what. He is facing a jump he has so much trouble with, instead of focusing on his strengths. Some say, this is stupid. I say, it takes guts. It's what champions are made of. And for me, Shoma is a champion.

I've already seen, to my chagrin.

This, x100. This is what I love about Shoma, and it's one of the things that makes him so exciting to watch. He takes his weaknesses and makes them work on the big stage, under pressure, when it really counts. And that's the kind of thing that I really want to see when watching sports, technical perfection is kind of secondary.

well, I have not been here for a while, but I'll speak my mind out there once and for good, regarding all things expected to be blown out of proportion as for this 4Lz Shoma thread.

First - really I have no offence to those who are creating such threads, after all - this is stuff subjected to the discussion, especially considering the calibre of a skater and upcoming Olympic season. Saying that...it's not the topic - it's the people and their opinions that turn such threads on their heads completely, see how repeating programs thread went when Yuzuru topic happened. You really can't help if someone is programmed in autopilot to defend one skater, regardless if necessary, and to attack others or to use shade/false concern to help their favourite. That's sad to see and even more sad to feel it personally when you are picked and told things you did not say nor wanted to express like I recently was. I will try to steer out of such threads, because I don't really want to get to the point of quitting this forum completely. The fact that you support some skater in a big way does not give you a right to offend people who do not have the same opinion. Or to use other skaters as point of mockery, hate, negativity just to prop up your favourite. Never gonna to understand such approach and 'philosophy'...

And regarding Shoma's news about 4Lz - I see it as a challenge, not already an accomplishment like some people there want to paint it. It's up to Shoma and his team to decide if such things are good and necessary for him and I will wait for the actual competitions and his performances. From what I gather, he is very conscious about his technicalities, jumps in particular and he should not be blamed for calls he receive or not from judges or how media presents/portrays his jumps - he has just no control over that, yet is receiving perpetual shade and hate from viewers. I just hope that he'll continue to respond in the best way he can like he did last season and to develop his skating continuously.

it's always "He's a cheater and with his faulty technique, he will never get better." Add fake "concern" for his future and there we go again...*sigh*

There are people over there who just can't stand seeing Shoma on the podium, and always regard him as a bitter rival for their own favorite skater (Yuzu, Boyang et al.). 'Cheater', 'pre-rotation', 'faulty technique' -- I see these words every day on a certain sports website where I recently opened a blog (dedicated to Shoma, obviously). I know that some of those people have accounts everywhere, and keep writing 'cheater' under every video with Shoma. Haters...

I went back to the thread and I saw some of the comments. Oh well. It used to annoy me, but now it's just amusing. Sort of funny how passionate some people get about disliking stuff (like Shoma's jumps). It's also interesting when you think that none of these quads were necessary to win competitions a decade ago, and now there's so much fuss about jump technique for quads which ARE LANDED. Frankly, I'm just amazed that these men are doing so many quads, and fearful that they might get injured doing them.

The prerotation argument is the best. It might boggle the mind to realize that these "prerotations" to the 4T are actually rolling 3's and a difficult entry which adds to the positive GOEs, as Arriba mentioned. 😁 I actually love that entry.

Don't worry, emipeters, I'm sure you just wanted a good discussion on the 4Lz, but it's just the way it is- when someone gets acclaim, especially on an international level, they attract both good and bad attention. It's just an indicator that Shoma is more popular now and more people are talking about him.

I do love his approach to just keep moving forward and keep improving. He's asked what he needs to work on and he says "everything". Then he works hard to do just that. Makes it more fun to watch him, because he'll just keep getting better as he goes along.

I don't have a problem with the thread itself and emipeters had every right to create it. I just felt immediately that it would go into the same direction, that many other threads have taken in the past. Frankly - I'm also sick and tired of it. I didn't want to stir up trouble or put any attention to it. What happened here in the last months often made me question my enjoyment of this forum and if it might not be better to not be involved in the online forums of figure skating - but then I met so many great and amazingly kind people on GS - it far outweighs the crazies. So, I'll try to stay in threads that aren't toxic, like the fanfest and opt out of discussions as soon as I think the other person is just in it for the sake of an argument. Also the ignore list is heaven-sent, because it's always the same people and their alternate accounts. I'm willing to learn. For example, I hate that people call Shoma a "cheater" and went off one poster who called Shoma's jump cheated. It's actually in the rule book of the ISU - the cheated take-off. So I stood corrected and had to swallow that. When everyone always has to have the last word it simply gets so exhausting, I don't see the sense. It's not fun - but this is my hobby and I want to have fun and not get into arguments and feel bad for the rest of the day.

Yeah i'm seeing alot of haters out there. What i don't understand is that if the people see it as cheated then how come the judges don't consider it a cheated jump? My conclusion is that they got used to their favorite skater's jump that they think it's the correct or proper way. seeing a new one is unacceptable to them. It's like older people can't accept new things :rolleye:

One time i compared Shoma's jump to current and retired skaters to see the jump and there are cases that i see a similar jump or similar take-off. But they don't get called out.
nor are they called cheaters.

I'm sure Shoma's jump training will help him correct his techniques if there's any mistakes in execution. :yay:

oh lord... so shoma tries a jump... for fun perhaps... and the world breaks down.... WHAT IF he included it and got full credit on it... OMG... he would be unbeatable...

I laugh... I will say it once and for all... I am a Shoma fan. I do not like him because of his technique though I love his edge jumps. He has plenty to offer as a skater whether or not he has an edge problem or not.... please.... I am a fan of Patrick... who is considered behind technically because he doesn't do those big jumps... and when I read this "behind technically" i am laughing hysterically... because Patrick is a master of technique... sure... he never thought he would need such big quads.... and so many of them... but all his jumps and his skating are textbook....

anyways... here is the main point of my post in here right now

If the Edge bugs you, with such thread full of negativity, always know that's why the fan fests were created for. Some Patrick fans do not even go anywhere else than the fan fest because they couldn't deal with the hate and the bashing.... now that Patrick is an underdog, suddenly people don't bash him so much... i guess they are hitting on Nathan and Shoma instead.... soon enough they will hit on my "son" (Conrad Orzel) who just attempted a 4 quad program for the first time last month...

This is ridiculous... do not let the negativity ruin your experience.

GO SHOMA
