Gracie Gold's prospects for 2018 season?

Adelina really doesn't need to pretend she is still in the mix. She is the Olympic Gold Medalist. That may not count for much here but it does in Russia. I'm sure she's not hurting for endorsement opportunities. I wouldn't write Gracie off, at least not yet.

I adore to Adelina, she and Yulia are my favorite russian skaters, I really think it's a shame she has not competed after Sochi, but honestly her situation is not credible for me anymore. I hope I'm wrong because I'd love to see her again competing.

Can someone please explain what is going on re: TSL's recent tweets about Gracie? Pulled out of Senior B? What??

It's not confirmed yet, but if true, it's not surprising. USFS is not going to want to send a skater who's doing double jumps. I doubt Gracie would want that either- I imagine she'll withdraw from Ondrej Nepela.

She was probably just fooling around in practice. I have seen other skaters--Max, I think--try opposite direction jumps in practice. It's meaningless.

As I had said before multiple times in this thread. They were goofing around, Ryan Bradley does these on the regular and has most of his up through doubles, he's even done multi-directional jumps in combo in shows recently and sometimes in combo with backflips. Last month he was doing them pre-show to raise money for Jeremy Barrett's wife at the fundraiser event for her leukemia treatment fund.

He does them until about 47:21 in from the point I've marked in the video here: https://youtu.be/loowWO9sXTU?t=2505

Oh man. I was so ready for a huge Gracie comeback, especially with the coach and location changes. Although I was never a huge Gracie fan, I do want her to skate well...

Will she be ready for the GP season, or will it be a repeat of last year? I wish I could just know what exactly is going on!!

It won't be a repeat of last year because she much better trained last year. No one knows what's going on, really.

Let's all cross our fingers this is true. Also idk if I'm using this whole quote thing correctly- I usually just lurk but the news today about Gracie and Ashley from TSL just made me burst. 😂

Do you think they would pressure her to withdraw from the GP? If they don't want her going to senior B events I'd imagine they wouldn't want her competing at the GP either.

I think she'll withdraw without pressure from the federation. Shows are one thing, but it would be degrading to receive an IJS score for a program full of singles/doubles.

I agree with this. It's one thing to do doubles at a show, it's another thing entirely to do them at a GP Event. Personally, I don't think Gracie will want to attend a GP event if she doesn't have her triples back. She was such a big jumper all the way back to her Junior days, I can't imagine she wants to go out not looking at or a least near, her best.

I believe the reports. Especially after how she looked at Sun Valley. It's getting ready to be September and she's still not in shape and doing scrappy double jumps at best. I wouldn't be surprised if she retired sometime this year, which is a shame given her talent.

I don't think USFS gets to control who does or does not go to the GP since the individual earned by the invitation, not the Federation.

It is my understanding that a skater does receive some $ for just attending a GP. For financial reasons to may be in her best interest to go.

This is correct. What I think might worry Gracie more is that her season best scores will be posted as the GPF approaches. The list of skaters in contention will be posted and I doubt she wants to see scores in the 50's and possibly lower, if she doesn't land a triple in her SP. I can't imagine what a free program with out a single triple it would score as I've never seen one. I haven't seen Gracie a big double axel since 2016 and it really does worry me.

Just for curiosity's sake, I looked up the only instance similar to this I could think of, which was Mao's Trophee de France free skate last year when she was injured. Her layout was:
2A, 2F, 2Lz, 2A3T, 2S, 2F, 3L and her overall FS score was 100.10 (39.64 for tech, 60.46 PCS). That was with two triples; if you imagine those as doubles instead, that probably drops about 10 points off the score.

I think there is a possibility they may pull her Senior B's. There was not a lot said about her regarding Champs camp, which is on the odd side....

But they also said she's not making it to the olympics not just probably won't. I think it's conjecture at this point.

With the USFS, its called a "Juvenile" program which until this year, was the lowest level that used the IJU system. At that level, skaters are limited to double jumps (including the double axel). Sorry to sound so snarky.

I don't know if it would be in her best interest to withdraw from the GP. Given how rough her last season was, she'd enter Nationals with almost no "body of work." Even if she then killed it at Nationals, if she didn't win she'd be at risk for getting dropped for an athlete with more recent consistency.

Will Gracie lose her bye to national if she withdraw from her GP?

I don't think she can jump doubles to qualify to national by sectional championships.

I didn't really start to worry until I noticed that Carly was uploading vids of herself doing double axels whereas Gracie was uploading pics/vids of her just being at the rink/gym.

It would depend on how USFS considers her team Olympic medal from Sochi. Reigning Olympic and World medalists have automatic byes to Nationals, but I do not believe USFS ever announced whether the team Olympic medal counts. Otherwise, you have to be top 5 at the previous Nationals to have a bye to the current Nationals, or have GP/ other events that conflict with Regionals/ Sectionals. At any rate, I do not think double jumps will get anybody through Sectionals anymore, though the Pacific Coast can be a fairly weak section. Two years ago, two of the ladies who qualified through PC sectionals did not have triples.
