Ladies OGM Contenders 2018

Evgenia does not deserve to win but she will win. The last four years have been her coronation. :disagree:

It was a mistake. She did 2A.

Here's her protocol

But in her recent interview she said that she's working hard on her 3A and it's almost there.

73.84 PCS? Well, that smashes her PB of 68.47!

Joking aside, I'm glad she's back and that's still a strong performance this early in the season. Hope she can add the 3A too. :)

Why doesn't she deserve to win? She has been the most consistent skater in the past 2 years, losing only 1 senior competition. The other ladies have not been nearly as consistent as she has. She continually challenges herself with harder transitions, backloading (which others are more than welcome to risk doing themselves) and she does close to maximum difficulty without a 3A -- and with ease and confidence.

If her programs aren't your cup of tea, and you dislike her tanos, that's your personal taste, but I don't think she is undeserved if she wins the Olympics next year.

Also, being a boring, predictable winner doesn't make her any less deserving. If another skater happens to magically gain consistency and difficulty, and Medvedeva falters but still wins, then we can talk about deserving... but with her current trajectory, the OGM is hers to lose and I am 100% cool with that.

Also... last 4 years?! She's been a senior for 2 seasons, going into her 3rd, and was in the shadow of other skaters prior to that.

An Olympic Gold Medal does not depend on the skater's consistency, but on her being able to do the best of all competitors at the right time. But Evgenia's super consistency in her performances and in winning makes prediction of her Olympic win easy.

I think you're joking but, if not, I disagree. We have yet to see her skate this season but, unless something really changes in her skating, I'd say that she's as much the favorite as Yuna was in 2010. Look out for Osmond but, the rest of the field is up in the air.

Good point. I'd add that the season has not fully started yet, and just because she has been strong the previous two seasons does not mean we can assume she will be as good this upcoming year. A few years ago, Mao skated great at the Japan Open and everyone thought she had gold secured at the upcoming Worlds, which Liza won. Prior to the start of the following season, everyone assumed 3A Liza would defend, then she failed to make the World team. A lot can change very quickly in this sport.

I wanted to reply but decided not to bother

Uh... except you just did? There.. i replied. See :cool14:

Sorry to read the champ camp news about Gold... seriously, sigh... hope she recover from the lows downs, but hey if Mirai can pick herself up from leaving Frank, it can be done! Gold is too talented to give up, I feel her career is starting to resemble Mirai!

So there's only Carolina Kostner (Confirmed? Totally laughing if she bring back Bolero) and Ashley Wagner left from last Olympic cycle returning? Polina 9th, Mei 10th possibly returning too.

Both Kaetlyn and Gabby were at the last Olympics.

Good point. That's why I didn't say her Olympic win would be easy but that the prediction of her win is easy.

Yes of course below Valentina and Mae, i am actually refering to just the top 10.

That was a Eurocentric judging panel. This Olympics should be interesting, the results can vary on the judging panel and technical caller.

The consistency helps, but it's the overscoring that makes her such a big favorite. The GOE she gets for tiny double axels, lutzes on the wrong edge, and cheated toelooops, is so wrong and unfair. Her consistency only exists as it does because of this lack of quality in the jumps that makes them easier to do.

Then she gets way, way too much PCS on top of it for being consistent. Also for having a pretty face. If she didn't have a pretty face her scores wouldn't be so high, but physical appearance makes her more marketable. The ISU wants her to win because a marketable person winning the titles brings them more money.

This is pretty much what I was going to say. Except for the looks part. I have no idea about that.

This you have to take it up with the Tech Panels and the judges, who seem to be very consistent re Evgenia.

Hers is certainly one of the many pretty faces among the Ladies, and, though beauty is subjective, her prettiness is not the most acknowledged among her qualities or among the Ladies. Nor is she necessarily the most marketable. Any other beautiful elite Lady, especially from the US or Japan, is at least as marketable as a WC or OGM.

Yes but it's the consistency in addition to being a very pretty girl that makes it so easy for the ISU to back Medvedeva.

Yu-Na Kim being considered sexier than Mao Asada was what made the ISU so eager to annoint the former in 2010. Then she stopped doing Grand Prix events, so the ISU no longer had use for her in 2014, since she didn't bring them the money they wanted.
