Past Ladies Olympic Gold Medal

*sigh*

The best thing about this being an Olympic year? someone else will be reigning ladies champion and hopefully some of the vitriol will die off.

My biggest sadness about this list? How many of them had such short careers. I think Adelina could have silenced a lot of critics if she had come back and won a couple of world championships.

My second biggest sadness? That Michelle Kwan never got that Olympic Gold.

You are too optimistic, people still get in a tizzy about Kwan not winning in 1998 and that was almost 20 years ago.

Exactly!!! It's been almost 4 years since Russia destroyed figure skating and I'm just as pissed and always will be, until Justice is done(which I don't actually believe will happen because I'm not an optimist) 😂

Lol I'm sorry but from my recollection and that of my entire skating club, Yuna won gold at Sochi. At the end of the day an official "gold" in the books don't mean a damn thing if the rest of the world does not acknowledge it. ISU should be ashamed for keeping silent since Sochi. They should have apologized and admitted their mistakes. What happened at Sochi left my entire skating club numb and very angry at our sport for a LONG LONG time. Every time it is brought up during practice, I can feel the room filling with rage at the injustice. My coaches scoff at the thought that Adelina beat Yuna at Sochi. We did an analysis and Adelina's total combined score was inflated upwards of 30 points based on her last known competition scoring (with difference in base value of her triple-double combination taken into account).

tizzies are just bad for your nerves.

I'm going to hope that whoever wins it's pretty obvious to most that they were the most deserving winner. Right now I'd say the money is on Evgenia but there are several other deserving women I can think of.. Satoko being my personal favourite. But the last two worlds have left no question in my mind who should have won them and if the Olympics works out the same then it's all good.

I think I'm correct when I say that Russia, Korea, Japan and Canada have only ever had one ladies champion. Unless a U.S. lady wins I'm assuming one of those countries will have a second one.

Listen, I loved Yuna as much as anyone did. As I've always said if I ubered for anyone I uberred for Yuna. I thought she was going to win. When she finished I thought she was going to win but she didn't. It's not the first time I've thought that one person should win and they didn't.

However keep in mind that Russians and Adelina's fans feel very strongly that all of those accusations of cheating are sour grapes and grossly unfair. I'm not sure throwing around such accusations without definitive proof is useful, productive or conducive to board harmony.

For 2014 it was clearly home town inflation, had the Olympics been held in another country and identical performances, Yuna or Kostner would have won and Adelina would have won bronze. There's nothing that can be done about it now, the results are what they are and blame the judges, not Adelina herself!

Yes indeed. Adelina was also a victim. ISU needs to own up to their mistakes. They robbed Yuna's second gold but also ruined Adelina's reputation. Why oh why do politics needs to mix with figure skating...

If Russia destroyed figure skating 4 years ago, why are you still watching/talking about it?

Like, relax. It's just a medal - one which Kim already earned prior. Sotnikova also had the skate of her life. Most acknowledge it was inflated but it's happened and the result will stand, regardless of whether people agree with it, disagree with it, are thrilled with it, or are outraged by it.

You should have gone back to 1988 in your viewings, poster of this thread. Midori Ito suffered the biggest Olympic robbery of any lady.

Weren't Compulsory Figures added with the score and Midori wasn't the best at them? Looking back at 88, I thought Liz Manley was the lady of the night :)

Liz did 4 Triples, none in combination, all frontloaded, and the Loop wasn't clean.

Midori did 7, with difficult combinations, throughout the whole program. Her ability was so far beyond the field that the judges would have needed to go above 6.0 to accurately score her in comparison to everyone else.

If Medvedeva wins gold next year, it won't be deserves at all.
And the worst part is: the judges will probably give her a Olympic record in both SP and FS, otherwise spoiled Medvedeva won't be satisfied.

But, if she fixes all of her jumps, stops with the pantomiming and actually do something nice to watch, and stop with the excessive unnecessary ugly tanos, then I'll say "yay!!! Congrats to Medvedeva!!! 😄"

You do realize that this is a forum about figure skating and not an angry Youtube comment thread?

The title seemed like this could be an interesting thread, but turns out it's just another hate-fest. :angry2:

I think that "youtube guerillas" from a certain country started their own preparation for the Olympics in particular opening accounts here and testing the tolerance of the system to trolling.

How lame. Consider the 'apparent' new trolls from a certain country opening accounts after Feb 2014 just to censor, complain and repress any discussion on controversial results on a sporting forum about an Olympic sport. Propaganda Russiaphial anointed.

Midori was robbed way ahead of her time, how will she thrive under COP? Midori vs Satoko. Both tiny, who'd win? Midori vs Mao?
If GOEs are properly graded, not just to distinct from how many features it ticked, but actual quality graded upon execution as well, Midori's jumps deserve +3 x 3.

This is inappropriate. You don't have to like her skating or agree with the scores, but calling her spoiled is just disrespectful. Please stick to the skating and leave out the name calling / personal jabs.
