Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

Last season, the SD was a pain for Gaby and Guillaume. SD step sequences were modified so many times... forcing them to change the choreography as well. One can say this SD was probably never finalised.

This season is completely different. The SD was perfectly designed from the start (well, with Christopher Dean, it could be hardly otherwise). I guess you will love the SD music choice (two masterpieces). This SD is very catchy imHo, with a lot of energy and, on top, there's a tremendous step sequence which perfectly fits with the music and demonstrates Gaby and Guillaume's talent.

I will attend the French Masters, the French GP in Grenoble, Europeans and Worlds for sure.

alain06fr, you have NO IDEA how excited your posts are making me! :yahoo: Thank you so much for reporting to us - now that so many other teams have either teased or revealed their programs, I'm sure many G&G fans are getting impatient for any news about them. Gaby and Guillaume like to keep their fans in the dark, but I believe it's for a good reason and now that we've heard from you, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. I'm particularly happy about the SD! You said that there was hardly a better choice than Christopher Dean for rhumba and samba, can we assume that those are the rhythms they've chosen for the SD?

Hello MelDee,
Nice to see you're quite excited to discover Gaby & Guillaume's programs for the olympic season.
yep, they are definitely dancing on rumba and samba rhythms. Now, as you could see in Salt Lake City, rumba and samba rhythm does not necessary mean typical rumba and samba latin music

Thank you so much, . Everything you wrote is really good news for Gabriella and Guillaume fans (and for themselves, naturally :)).

Well, V/M and H/D got some outside input too - it's just not talked about that much, as people who helped them are not such big names in comparison to Dean etc.

About being able to enjoy Gabriella and Guillaume's skating and artistry without competitive concerns - we will very likely be able to do that while watching them at their earlier competitions, but all evedince and word on Virtue/Moir's training, as well as their showing at the High Performance Camp, says that they are also very well prepared, so I don't think either P/C or V/M fans will be able to completely get rid of those competitive concerns, especially for the GP Final and Olympics where they will compete together. Although, in my opinion, it's a good thing. I want to see a great competition between these two and also in general.

I think there is a difference between having a concern about the competitive methodology of two skaters, and being invested in the competitions and the results themselves. To be honest, I really don't care about Virtue and Moir, and I don't really want to see a "great" competition between the two set of skaters: instead, I want Gabriella and Guillaume to go out and deliver another immaculately executed work of art like that of the free skate this year, in both the short and free from the off this season. If they don't win the Olympics and Virtue and Moir instead get gold, what does it matter, Gabriella and Guillaume are already legends who have delivered three free skates at Worlds that will be watched and marvelled at for years to come, and I am sure will do the same this year. As long they are not hindering themselves competitively, and giving themselves the best chance at placing as high as they can, that's all they can do. And if in the end of the day the ISU using the IJS decides Virtue and Moir are the better team, it's just an opinion that can be seen to either be right or wrong: it doesn't alter the talent of these two, or what their skating is.

So is Christopher Dean a consultant for the sd or a/the choreographer? We will be squeezing you dry for information: I hope you know that........

Can't wait. So far this season, I've seen nothing but boring skating with cliched music choices. Can't wait to see champions like P/C and Chris Dean teach everyone what Latin is really all about. As for competition, I'm ready to say P/C have Oly Gold in the bag. The SD was the only thing holding them back last year, and like true winners, they set out to crush it this year, the year it really matters. Everyone better step aside or get ready to be steamrolled!!

alain06fr, I want to thank you for your effort and dedication you put into bringing Gabriella and Guillaume closer to the people. It is good to hear that they are ready and 'hungry' for competition, to show their new material. As for your words I bolded, my opinion in relation to Gabriella/Guillaume is that they make everything they use 'not typical' - despite their young age, what I very appreciate is their clear vision and unique take on Ice Dance they present in their every program, regardless of scores, levels and public sympathy towards the programs. I suspect that SD this season will be nothing but 'typical' Latin, but their version of it, spin put with the input of Christopher Dean. I'm very much looking forward to see their debut at Finlandia Trophy.

With only 2 weeks to go, we could start betting whether the Moonlight Sonata rumour is true, or not. Personally, I'd say yes, since V/M's FD rumour turned out to be true.

There's a lot going for All you need is love- it starts with the Marseillaise, is in the Olympic spirit, is "catchy" (see Alain) and Dean likes the Beatles, plus another couple is doing The Rolling Stones. How on earth one rhumba/samba's it up though with it's weird time signature changes, I don't know.

I think only a fool would bet against Moonlight Sonata being the free. But I think it will be a treatment of it.......

and I wouldn't be surprised if the treatment used this......... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QX-rSLkQRQ

I like to think that when they got this entirely hypothetical idea to use the moonlight soundtrack with moonlight sonata that Marie-france said mash it up mash it up mash it up mash it up boom repeatedly.

My mind immediately went to the Beatles, too. Could be a hint, but also just a coincidence. Guillaume quoted Cohen's "Anthem" back in June, and I also thought that could've been a hint.

Yup Moonlight Sonata rumour is true

It wouldn't surprise me if that was the road they decided to take with the FD! I think it would actually be quite brilliant, if they combined the two pieces. One, the perfect Olympic music, classical, and a reminder of another great team. The other, inspiring modernity and adding an element of the unexpected, just enough to distinguish their program from said team. You may be onto something here, icetigger :)

Thanks! I think it would be brilliant too, also because musically, the soundtrack fits with moonlight sonata- it's not just an intellectual conceit.! (and they did say they had a great idea!) As for the short dance- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9oZYsi2kHI

I hope MF was also heavily involved in choreographing the SD because I feel we have seen enough Dean choreography to Beatles music.

I don't think there is a any real equivalency between any previous choreo to beatles tracks for freeskates or exhibition pieces, and one for a likely cover with a different rhythmic backing track for short dance (which is what I would think their use of it would be, if they are using it at all)

I must be a bit thick but I don't get the reference. It might be referencing a time I was not following ice dance very closely. Can you be more specific ?
