Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir

The livestream cut off Tessa and Scott's twizzles but luckily a fan filmed it: https://twitter.com/SaraLizz25/status/910909343427645441

My thoughts on this program: this program fits Tessa and Scott to a T. Other than these two, there's no one out there who can emulate a fiery yet tender romance on the ice. The beginning definitely had some Carmen-esque vibes which I LOVED (yay for including the revised Carmen lift) but the ending gave me chills. I can't wait to see them perform the whole thing on Saturday.

That FD is very them. Im glad they went back to their style rather than trying to do what everyone is doing now. Their lifts are also impressive because I always find its one of their weakness so Im glad it got improved. Not sure about her dress and scott’s turtle neck shirt.

Chills. That is all I have to say. Tango de Roxanne/Moulin Rouge may be becoming a warhouse, but in the hands of truly skilled performers, warhouses don't feel anything like warhorses. Instead, I'm invested in every move they are making on the ice. The lifts are different than I've seen from them in the past and I LOVE them!!! Well done, Tessa and Scott!!! :yay: I  Tessa's dress, but Scott's outfit is quite boring, if these are their actual costumes. Their programs are going to leave many of us in tears this season, I am sure. I cannot wait!!! Thanks to the uploaders!

Yes, that's what makes them such great skaters is that they're able to transform any warhorse into their own story. I think their outfits for today might just be for practice. If there's one thing I could suggest is for Scott to go bold and try different outfits!

i think so too

Also, maybe Tessa will wear a different costume each competition the way she did in 2014, and I don't mind that one bit.

I hope so. I need Tessa in red!!!

this was my first thought after seeing the cut of her dress during the practice - it needs to be done in burgundy/deep red somewhere in the season!

I'm in positive excitement over today and tomorrow, just allowed myself to re-post my thoughts already said in ACI SD thread about this FD run-through:

for me, watching it yesterday gave the same kind of feeling as watching Skate Canada 'Carmen' FD practice back in 2012 - this really undescribed sense of some special thing happening. And yes - it is 'Moulin Rouge' program, the music we know already very well in figure skating and I do get that some people will despise the whole FD altogether due to this music used. But for me it is really HOW and WHY are you using particular music, HOW are you making it work the best for you, not IF you are using particular music.

The first thing that my mind registered watching this practice was how strong the whole concept of a program is, how they are radiating with confidence. There is a sense of total devotion, dedication and faith in that program from them - even in the practice the emotional layer, their expression were already there. And it looked like the story they want to tell, emotions they want to convey may start with 'Moulin Rouge', the music, but it is just a departure point for them. It's quite admirable for me to still see the spark, the purpose, the will to go for more seeing them in their 3rd Olympic circle - there is really no afterthought, no so-so quality in that FD from what I've seen so far. I think that this is one of very few teams - if not the only team now - who can do BIG concept, bold story, overused music and make all of that as their very own. Their unique ability to make drama moderately and so tastefully is magnificent.

Personally, to go more under FD specifics - I actually love both 'Moulin Rouge' pieces used and the way they mesh together into that quite unique finale (I expected more of a 'bang' at the end, but there is the focus pointed on the emotion, not the amount of it, which is quite unusual to see), love the guts for going for 'Carmen' cursed lift (which I personally loved), all moments in-between elements, either in holds or not - their natural dancers ability really shines through every move. And for me it's again HOW they are meshing their best stuff into that one FD, not really focusing if they re-used lift, move or something else - this is a program where I definitely won't make complaints over re-using something.

WOW 79.96, just 0.04 off 80 pts! They're just so amazing, and just think it's only the first competition of the season!

Thoughts on the SD (posted this earlier in the SD thread):
Tessa and Scott- I love, LOVE the choreo, the body movements but the music cuts are so jarring. I really hope they revise it at some point because everything else about this program is great. I was initially iffy about the clothing but man, both of them rocked in it.
And their rhumba section....smooth like butter

I actually like their costumes. It's latin. I want OTT. I think given that some of their SD could be seen as a bit understated (not even in a bad way) - I'm glad their costumes are flashy.

The program is super strong and the set up is quite similar to their Prince SD actually. Give them a few more months and I can't even imagine how much more incredible this SD will become.

Looks like another year I'm gonna spend screaming at Scott to get a haircut  I think the scariest part about this SD is how it's gonna look by the end of the season. The energy, the passion, the pattern, everything is there already -- just like last year, they'll be polishing perfection. Really strong early season statement from them. Now to try and not spoil myself by watching their FD run-through...

And Scott has a non-boring costume :hap10: With so many guys just going the all black root this season, I totally expected him to do the same.

SAME! I know some people thought it was too much but I loved his costume because it really intensifies his personality on the ice.

In general, I'm fine with men wearing simple black costumes with no or minimal bling BUT when it's the Latin SD season and MOST of the guys are wearing simple black costumes with no or minimal bling, I'm all for Scott bringing some much-needed sparkle and bling and glam to the event!

WOW! What a start to the season 195+ points! I simply loved the FD. I know there were a couple of people that disliked it but honestly, this program had it all -the fire, the softness and undeniable chemistry. I particularly loved the twizzles ending on the "ROXANNNE" part as well as the ending. But I understand that it wasn't perfect, however, they'll definitely refine it.

Though I wish the ending was more dramatic/punctuated, I actually like the FD. They look pretty awesome for september, and yes, it'll probably bbe tweaked as the season goes on. The sd though- I just don't see anyone beating them in that segment unless they miss twizzles or something. No one comes close on the patterns.
