Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

Just under two points less than Virtue and Moir at the Autumn Classic. Exactly the same levels. Actually very slightly higher PCS. So the difference is mainly down to GOE.

(and that Finnish judge was one tough cookie- 8.75 for composition? The Canadian judge marked low and the French and the Spanish high but none to a sore thumb point: none were at all outrageous in their takes.)

I love it, especially the first part to Shape of You. And I have a feeling I will love it even more when the season progresses.
Though I'm not convinced to the lift and hope they will modify it. And I still need to get used to Gabi's dress. I'm not so in love with it like some other people and prefer her in other colours than green.

Agree, I'm not the biggest fan of her dress either, but if she's happy with it and feels comfortable while wearing it, I'll happilly get used to it. Anyway, I'm so happy for them. As it's been said, they must have worked extremely hard and it's starting to pay off. I cannot wait for the free dance tomorrow.

what struck me most, part from the gorgeous skating, is how happy they look throughout the performance. It was what was missing last year, they looked tense and uncomfortable, especially Guillaume who was performing kind of within. Here they clearly had a blast and this will be key to get the right level of energy and bring the crowd along. I suspect Dean, himself a great and even sometimes cheeky performer, to have helped a lot on this aspect.

Thank you for this, yuna13! :) I'm kind of silently contemplating over here how I feel about the music, and I'm pleased to hear that it sounds a lot better in the arena! The music has a completely different vibe to it all of a sudden, and it gives me a much better impression than it did the first time I heard it today, not gonna lie. I definitely feel a lot more positive about the music now, no surprise they're having an absolute blast performing to it!

Exactly the same feeling about the music! It seems to me that the music is nor well synchronized with the picture. Obviously, the video is not of the best quality. Btw, i like Guillaume singing 'amor' in that piece. Their attention to such details is amaizing. :)

The music as recorded is very dry- there's not a lot of reverb or effects on the instruments and vocals: they are vocals as spoken to you very nearby in a very small space. Contrastingly, an ice arena is an incredibly wet space- tons of reverb and reflection of noise off of the ice. Because the music was overlaid as the track only without any of the noise of the arena and the sound of the music in the arena mixed in, there will be a dissonance between what people know what they are watching should sound like and what they are hearing. If the actual recorded music were wetter, i.e. the song had been recorded to sound like it was being performed in a more public and less intimate way, the dissonance would be less, but you'd still be missing all the background noise, and it's unlikely anyone would ever record a track to like the musicians were performing in an ice arena. Basically, if we were there, we'd probably all love it!- it would be more rousing, have the feel of the occasion. Plus, the synchronisation may well be enough off too.

I hate when the music is overlaid completely take away from the performances, I hope it won't be the same for the FD. It was already the case last week, when are we gonna get a proper video of those programs :tantrum:

Not a huge fan of how this music is cut but god this SD is SO much more palatable than last year. Simply packed with content and energetic throughout. One rough spot for me is when they come to a stop in the middle of the program -- the choreo there is a little awkward. Guillaume finally looks like he's having fun compared to the sombre faces he would pull during the SD last season.

Their SD is too short...it's a masterpiece. It's beautiful, class, elegant. The transitions are incredible. They both shine. In the ice rink, the music is top, the audience liked. The notes are very good: ok It's a challenger, but it's not in France.
And tomorrow, it's an other masterpiece

What really annoys me is the (negative) reaction these videos cause. I was hoping that the comment sections on the youtube videos would shut down, but it's full of comments about how the music is not authentic Latin. It's not, but even Latin ballroom competitions often use remixes of popular music edited to fit the rhythms, so it's not like Gaby and Guillaume are doing something scandalous. And it sounds REALLY GOOD in the arena, I'm kind of jamming to these clips from Instagram, where you can see how much the audience was into it. Unfortunately, it appears that some people have made their judgment on G&G's SD even before they debuted it, and it's pointless to argue with these people.

Very negative, borderline insulting comments used to bother me a lot till very recently actually but I realize rude people will be rude and can't be reasoned with. They also never acknowledge to being rude but rather state you're the one being oversensitive. The hypocrisy of it all is dumbfounding but I finally manage to just not care because it was truly ruining the experience for me.
So now, I can unapologetically say I love Gaby and Guillaume skating, I don't care about any of the versatile, level discrepancy, music choices and other tired critics. I don't even bother answering any of those anymore because everything has been said a 1000 times and people just camp on their position anyway. For me, they're in a class of their own.

Thanks for your report from the rink. BTW, you were so lucky to also see them last week, did you see any improvements compare to their last performance ? Maybe comfort level with the program ?

Gabi's twizzles are much better here  I feel that they are already more confortable with their program (plus sûr d'eux), the elements are "lost" (it's not the good word) in their sublime choregraphy. For me, they juste dance 30 seconds.

Melt is the word ;)
