2017-18 State of U.S. Men's Figure Skating

Nathan's SP at Rostelecom was awesome! Did anyone mention, he did 4Lz-3T, 4F, and 3A? All that, and he skated Nemesis with incredible danceability, energy and swagger. He performs it with intensity and abandon at the same time! http://fsnews.ru/forums-m-posts-id-22807.html

Wow, you're not kidding! I haven't been following Nathan's skating since last season, so I did not see that coming. His body expression has transformed big time--perhaps the result of dance training? Looks like he's managed to keep his jumping prowess without sacrificing the choreography. Very well done. :clapper:

Shae-Lynne's choreography, I think, she brought out something in Nathan that's been there all along. He's had years and years of dance training.

I read somewhere that the plan was for him to dominate with jumps his first year in seniors and make a name for himself and then amp up with choreography to fill in the pcs side of the score. If that’s true, we’ll done team. And it’s working.

Nathan WON!!!!!! He lost to Hanyu in the free but he had enough of a cushion from the SP to win in Russia. Please stay healthy Nathan, you have just positioned yourself as a SERIOUS contender for the OGM......Congratulations to our talented young skater.....:cheer2::dance2::points:

I think that might be the most excited I've ever seen Raf. He was happier than Nathan.....:2thumbs:

Nathan needs and deserves support from USFS!!

You have no worries there, my friend ;) USFS has been promoting the living heck of this boy, (witness the Nathan Broadcasting Co. of last year’s Nats) and I have no doubt that it will continue.

Americans love a winner, and Nathan is winning:biggrin:

My friend, tbh, my gutting feeling is not so good, I am indeed worried, Nathan's PCS is still very low, Although he won this event, but to contend for OGM (I mean seriously Gold medal contenter), he not only needs to do 5 quads(perhaps even more) and clean and needs some support from USFS.

Also, my point is that, he deserves support as well!

Yes he is. One of the best things about Nathan this year is that he's keeping his nerve. If he had faltered today and taken the silver, I still would have been thrilled. He showed us just how hungry he is to be the Olympic Champion and this was the perfect way to start his season. By the way.....Where is the US Ice Dance thread?? The Shibs won the Gold but I can't find the thread to say congratulations.

I think you are trying to say he needs more political backing / politiking from the USFS when he competes internationally. If they could help make Lysacek OGM, I agree they could try harder with Nathan

Correct!! Clearly the Russian Fed has no problem propping up their skaters. Evgenia doesn't really need it but, Mikhail was given a boost by his fed today and even though I love him.....He wasn't great today. Props to Misha Ge........He just makes me feel happy. I could start every day with a cup of coffee and a program by Misha..:coffee:

I am afraid I do not understand how USFS could do more “politicking” for Nathan.

Now, I am not a Nathan super-fan by any means, but I do admire his obvious gifts of technical skill and tenacity. However, from someone who is not invested, I don’t know what more USFS could do. They have scored him highly at national events and promoted the heck out of him as their number one man. They can’t force international judges to score him differently.

And although my heart at this event was with Deniss :love:and Misha:love:, I will agree that in no universe should some of these other skaters (cough, cough) get higher PCS than Nathan. But I don’t know what USFS can do about that:scratch2:

for one, give Nathan the politicking USFS once given to Gracie.

Well, I think we will have to agree to disagree. :) I think much of Gracie’s results and press had nothing to do with USFS politicking.

And I have no doubt that the USFS is full steam ahead with Nathan at this point. And Nathan’s next GP is Skate America. So Nathan fans can rest easy:biggrin:

My friend, I am just worried. I think Nathan Boi can handle it with(hopefully) or without USFS policking. He is a special BOI :cool:
Yay to SA, on home soil!!:yahoo:

That PCS he received was beyond ridiculous. No way can ANYONE do a program that well when you fall that many times. :palmf:

Nathan needs and deserves support from USFS!!

He got 88 PCS for that. I don't think the "support from USFS" is an issue.

Congratulations to Nathan on becoming the second of the current US men to win a GP.

Has there been another GP? I thought this was the first event. :scratch3:

This is the first event. But until today, the only one of the current US men to have won a GP was Max. No-one else had.
