2T was not counted. He should have gone for the 3T with the 3Lz. Listen to me Sasha, go for the 3T with the Lutz the next time your quad fails. Pleeeease. It's common sense. I don't know why your legendary coach hasn't told you this yet.

I'm not surprised - even to my uneducated eyes, I thought that it probably wouldn't.

Anyway, good performance, even if the tech wasn't all there. Better luck tomorrow in the free.:)

Que Sera Sera?

I still don't get why he didn't go for the 3Lz-3T. Sasha knows this. When he failed the 3F in his FS at one of the competitions last season, he moved the combo to the 3Lo. It's the same principle.

No interview with Sasha yet. Usually at GPs Russian media will interview all the Russian competitors for short comments. Maybe he's not feeling communicative. But he didn't seem to be in a badmood after the scores. Oh well.

ridiculously low scores... I don't understand!
He had no combo. Had he attached a 3T to the 3Lz instead of attempting to do 4T-2T, his score would be noticeably higher.

As for PCS, it's low because, well, he has no reputation at all. Should have gone to Junior Worlds in 2016 and grabbed that much needed PCS boosting medal when both Nathan and Sota were injured. Big mistake on coaches' part to skip JWs that year.

Maybe his mind just blanked on him. Obviously he should know that when he put his free foot down, no combo would be valid after that.

He seemed to be in quite the cheerful "oh, well"-mood afterwards, not disgruntled or disappointed at all. Maybe he's taken "Que sera sera" as his motto as well.:)

As for his PCS - I don't recall, but aren't they actually slightly higher than last year? Now, my memory for figures is non-existent, but I seem to recall him having 34 or something like that? Or am I misremembering? I'm hoping that, if skated well, that there should be potential for his PCS to rise. But maybe I'm being too sanguine...

PCS was 36.86 last year.

Okay, interview is up. The first of the new season. His last interview was during pre-season, sometime in May/June.

Translation below is by me, please excuse any errors:

"Considering that I was sick and then later I also sprained my leg and missed a competition (Panin Memorial in St Petersburg), I would say that I'm only in the process of recovery. Due to these circumstances, my training was not ideal. And such preparation produces such a skate."

When asked if he thinks he can get closer to the top echelons of men's skating, Sasha said "I think so, but hard work is needed and you need to show your maximum [what you are capable of]. At the moment, I wouldn't say that I've reached my maximum, but I'm moving towards it. Had I fully rotated the 4T and not made a mistake on the Axel, I would get above 80 points with a clean skate."

Sasha also affirmed his desire to learn 4Lz and 4F. "If I have either of these quads, then there would be two quads in the program. A month ago I had been trying both 4Lz and 4F but during my recovery from health problems, I was working on the program and not on new elements."

PCS was 36.86 last year.

Thanks for the correction! I'm glad I can rely on you to know these things.:)

So, I'm curious - was that for a clean skate? In which case, I hope that, if Sabre Dance were clean, it could score better.

And interesting interview - it does explain a lot; it's good to know what the situation is. Hopefully things will only get better from here on out.:)

I wasn't sure myself either, I checked online.

It was not clean, he doubled the 3T and had ! on his 3F. It's hard to tell what Sabre Dance would score if clean. Definitely higher than his present score but by how much, I'm not sure. What I AM sure is that Elvis/Little Richie Medley would have been even lower.

Yes, I'm glad he explained why he skipped Panin Memorial. As for "health problems" I guess he just doesn't want to talk about it in detail and that is his prerogative. I understand that part.

There's a video of the mens FS draw somewhere online. At least it was titled as such. I was watching it and halfway through it I was thinking, "oh this is good, I can show the rest of Sasha's fans". And then just as the lady conducting the draw announces "and now Alexander..." and Sasha can be seen in the background sort of rising from his seat, the video ends. :ohwell:

Edit:
Anyway, I will be working tomorrow (Sat) and won't be home until about 4 hrs after the event ends. So I will greatly appreciate it if anyone can update this thread with his FS score and generally how he skated. Thank you!

Sasha will be skating last in the first group - good luck!

Note: I will try to update with his score, but am not the best person to report on how he did technically.

I'm on my dinner break. Searched 15 mins for a working stream, no luck. So I decided to read the event thread.

Messy, messy skate. Downgraded quad. Four falls (not on the quad). He seemed quite exhausted.

FP score: 117.44
Overall score: 186.02

He's second-to-last, and likely to so remain.

Well, things can only get better from here on, can't they?

I don't know.
I can kind of tell what is going wrong.
Things need to change after this season and in a big way.

I just got home, literally 5 mins ago. I have yet to watch his skate. I will start updating this thread etc soon.

I think that Mishin should withdraw him from Skate America. Don't do anymore competitions until Russian Nationals. This would be the best decision for Sasha. And I hope his coaches will do what is in his best interests and not follow some "formula" or "modus operandi" that they have been so used to over the years.
