Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

I think they have a mental coach since they started in Gadbois. Interviewed in Stockholm at 2015 Europeans, they explained they were well prepared in Montréal including mental coaching to handle the competition stress. May be this coach was not mentally strong enough to deal with V/M's comeback ;) More seriously, I think the problem last year was somewhere else. Also, never forget they decided to take up a super challenge with this very complex FD. I remember MF Dubreuil telling us in Paris last year (GP de France) they didn't have any reference for this kind of music. The coaches were not fan (the least I can say) of Stillness-Oddudua, initially submitted by Guillaume. I guess the coaches thought Gabriella would not necessary push for it (somehow playing Gabriella "against" Guillaume) but it was exactly the opposite. Gabriella brought all her weight to support Guillaume and keep this music for the free dance.

Yes, you're right. And yes, the dress of Gabriella is so fun. I asked Guillaume yesterday about the design of Gabriella's dress and all the little diamonds/spangles covering both top and bottom of her costume. I know Guillaume hardly use them. He told me the dress must be class by design in first place. Now, if he thinks little diamonds/spangles should be added, then he prefers to cover the dress with it to make it look like a big diamond. "It is all or nothing" he said to me :)
As for Guillaume, his costume matches perfectly the style of rumba dancers were slim dark shirts.

I simply don't know how to describe the magic they created with the "Stillness/Oddudua/Happiness does not wait" program. It is so brilliant, it is hard to see how anyone can have doubted the choice of music. Such courage, such talent and strength of artistry... And the perfect perfect perfect editing of the different fragments of the three music pieces...
That program for me was something that should have lead to the creation of a new category in the judging system: extra points for artistic innovation or something. Every time they danced it, it was a bit different and I cannot choose which version I like best. I find it almost unbelievable that they did not win the GPF or the Worlds, even though I know the SD was an issue. That FD was simply from another world, it would have to compete in a category made for such creations.
It was simply magic. Just like their other two programs, sure, and just as MS will be magical. But man, was that music choice a bulls-eye...
I was a bit disappointed with the MS as for me it is the total opposite: going from complete innovation to a well, how to say this politely, completely down-trodden path? I do love the music, that's not it, it's just that well, it's not surprising really. But what they do with it... only they can do. It's breath-taking, and we haven't seen it bloom yet. (If I may permit, I pray that they will get the big boo-boom's in the presto a bit more pronounced, as now there are only a few that are really spot-on and big enough - I feel that you cannot ignore such humongous musical accents.)

As for all the blingbling on Gabriella's SD costume: brilliant. Simply perfect, she looks stunning and the stuff flows and wiggles exactly right. In fact, I am not convinced with the dark blue dress for MS, as the skirt very often becomes a piece of cloth hanging from her 'leotard'. It's stunning in simplicity (and my friend-in-G/G-worship wants me to stop fussing over it) but somehow I'm still completely in love with last year's costumes, which I found to be extremely gorgeous. Just complex enough, just enough gradient, just perfect.

Anyway, I can't wait to see everything develop and hope that they will get back to full experimenting next year. After taking gold at every competition this year.

Why don't you go and read some of my comments in previous dance threads--including this one--before you start slinging insulting phrases like "simple-minded" around. Ad hominem doesn't look good on anyone.

You know what I find simmple-minded? Uncritical fauning bordering on empty flattery. I take P/C as serious dancers, artists AND athletes. Crying "masterpiece" after a single outing of a Free Dance to me is the very epitome of simple minded. First drafts that are perfect are very very rare indeed, almost to the point of being miraculous.

There are moments of this that are brilliant--the entire pesto interlude. And yes, there are problems.

Frankly given the personalized attacks, I save that discussion for more open-minded people.

Wow. Directly attacking someone for a general statement about trolling that you took personally, by claiming THEY made an ad-hominem attack. That's worthy of a 'how to win every argument regardless' manual :laugh2:

Hello there, Gotlev! :)

I think we might see them dancing to this innovative style in the next four years, at least one of them will be dedicated to this type/style, I think. They chose it last year and proved to themselves and others they can rock it.
I love Moonlight Sonata and what they have created with it so far. Yes, there are a couple of things I'd change/modificate, but it works for me. The only thing I wouldn't change is Gabby's dress. It's so elegant, beautiful, regal and yet so simple. I'm literally praying she won't change it during the season.

The same facebook video has now reached 10 million views ! :yahoo: Just look at the comments.
Now how awesome is that for P/C, Ice Dance, and the Olympics coming ?

EDIT : Their FD is close to 200K on YouTube too !

And Hello Gotlev ! Please post often :agree:! Anything can be said here, from critics to whatever suits your taste. Don't worry, all kinds of constructive critism are the best kinds. ;)

Well, I don't mind per se if the blue dress stays. It will be anyway their choice. So far (I hardly saw anything from before Gadbois), whenever they changed the costumes, I was totally excited by the change, the stuff only got better (that red dress for the 2016 Worlds SD (WE waltz/march) - to die for!). So IF something changes this season, ...
Did you notice that she tore the blue dress in CoC? (I think it was in the twizzles but I can't say for sure.) I wonder what they will do. Either copy it, or...? Let's see next week! It doesn't matter much, but I feel that somehow that very open back with no skirt is a bit a strange outfit for what they are doing. I like the dress as it is very much (might have some colour gradient, but that's minor), but the way it flows during the dance makes it look like several different things other than the dress it is when she stands at the beginning. Not always really flattering, in my opinion. In the Finlandia Trophy it hardly ever hung as a dress but mostly as some kind of a long loin cloth or an extra piece of cloth fluttering behind her; it almost became a distraction.
But anyway, I'm supposed to stop fussing over it.
They'll do what they think is best. I'll be happy for you if she has a copy or a repaired one next week ;)

Welcome, post long and often, it's always nice to get new fans, makes for more conversations.
For me, I pray they don't change their SD costumes. I love her dress, it's so distinctive and vibrant, literally looks like no other dress used in the SDs this year. I get he's dressed down to counterbalance and let her shine.
As for the Eurosport videos, 10 Millions view is huge and they deserve it. I just hope they can ride this momentum without freaking out and just keep it together, especially when the 1st big show down will happen in the GPF.
Also, you can fuss as much as you'd like, as Anyasnake said, whatever floats your boat. My only pet-peeve is when posters start flinging condescending/ diminishing or even insulting adjectives around though. IMO it's always always uncalled for.

I had to go and watch it again... do you mean the kind of a slit on the right? (from her point of view). I think the dress were made with it, probably so for she can move with it more freely. But now that you've mention it, I have to admit it looks a bit strange. Maybe the 'skirt' could be less transparent? It turns out I didn't really pay attention to that. I was carried away by the dance. We'll see. I'm sure they'll do something about it if it caused her problems. :) The dress as a whole, though, is perfect for me. So simple, yet so elegant.

That SD red dress was a perfection. One of my favourite ice dance costumes (and the dance too, it's still my favourite SD of theirs). I don't know if you noticed, but Gabby wore that dress again. It was at Fantasy on ice in Kobe earlier this year. :)

There is a rip (hole) in the fabric of Gabi's dress. I noticed it too. I'm sure that this kind of mishaps are not rare.

I think that last year she also ripped her FD dress at one point, and she had it fixed by the next event. We'll see what they do about it, only a week to go till IdF! :yahoo:

Yes, It's like futuristic fantasy, I'm still under the spell of their last year program.

Maybe "Moonlight sonata" it's the less original music choice as for P/C and overall concept is less contemporary than their programs from 2016/2017, nevertheless I really like the neoclassical style of MS program and their interpretation which reminds me of Balanchine aesthetic. I'm sure that P/C will still work on optimizing movement to the music just like in previous season.

Interesting take. I'm a Balanchine fan as well.

;)

MS Choreography has a certain poetic quality and detailed hands movements.

However the general qualities of their skating the fluidity, seamless, polished elegance, beautiful swirling and whirling usually reminds me of choreographic style of Jiri Kylian.

The best: Tango:)

And as Tango has roots in Argentina originally, but also Finland and East European Jewish Klezmer music, (and elsewhere) I hope we won't be having half the authenticity debates that have gone on this season.

Dancers can apparently couple their tango with any other rhythm that they like?

I'm hoping to see a Tango version of Madonna's Frozen......

I'm sure we will have...

Part of me would like to see Gabi and Gui in a deconstructed variation on Tango, the second part of me yearn for a vintage milonga or vintage melancholic Tango. I'm torn apart, but in high spirit;). I think Tango suits them.

A deconstructed variation on Tango sounds interesting.......... Any clues as to what that might sound like........ Do you mean like sparse/iminalistic percussive backing track with a modern dance feel programme to go with hit?
