Anna Pogorilaya

Not to be overly pessimistic, but I think that with Radionova, Sotskova and Tuktamysheva all in shape as seen in the past 2 weeks, Anna's chances of being at the Olympics are basically zero. So if I was her I would just take the whole season off, get treatment for her back and maybe a sport psychologist as well and come back next year ready to conquer.

Hm...Has she done the full examination of her back yet? Still so worried about her health. Maybe it's an SI Joint issue that could be affected by hormonal changes. Well, I guess it's good that she has not lost motivation to continue training for Skate America, and I would love to see her again since I'm going to Skate America.
I think maybe she can roll back to her LP last year as Swan Lake really would not get her far and she's so uncomfortable skating to it right now. Since the music and the dress are also so similar to Kaetlyn's, and we all know the judges's preferences as Kaetlyn is clearly Canadian's No.1, I think that it just wouldn't be a smart move to keep this LP, even though I would love to see it in its full potential. I know last year's LP might bring her psychological trauma, but she had successfully performed it so many times and in general it was a successful program (favorite of mine among her competitive programs). It's probably way too late to get a new LP, but if she does, I wish it would be a tango! Maybe turn her "Tango in a Mad House" to a competitive one! It does not look like there are many tango programs this year, and I think it would really make her stand out. If she picks a warhorse, I hope it would be Dr. Zhivago, as her look right now really reminds me of Lara Antipova. I guess I'm not the only one who sees similarities here? :drama:

Not the only one .... But I would like to see her black swan ...

Sadly, after watching the amazing event in China, I'm 100% sure that Anna will NOT go to the olympics, no matter what happens next.

At this point, and barring any unforeseen disasters, the top two spots on the Russian team will go to Evgenia Medvedeva and Alina Zagitova. The race is for the third spot. Maria Sotskova is in the strongest position with a win in Finlandia CS and a second in Canada. Radio did not make the podium in Moscow GP and barely made third in China.

Tuktamysheva and Lenova don't appear to be factors.

Polina Tsurskaya, as a senior, is a wild card. She is in the Eteri Tutberidze camp.

In her peak form, Anna could easily beat both Maria and Radio, but even if Anna recovers to win the GP in Lake Placid, she has a tough battle to get the third spot.

She still hasn't announced that she's skipping Skate America. The chance for the GPF is gone. She can still win Skate America. She can still podium at Russian Nationals. Yes, it might be a very optimistic view, but we're at Anna's Fanfest here and not in the Youtube comment section. All in all, I think Sotskova and Tsurskaya have better chances. Radionova & Tuktamysheva's scores don't look very frightening to me, and that's them at their very best at CoC. So let's see.

Lena ended up looking pretty strong at CoC, but I think if Anna somehow (!) gets back into top form she can definitely beat out Lena and Liza with ease. Polya's new free skate leaves a lot to be desired IMO from what I've seen from the Russian domestic comps, so I think the main threat against a healthy Anna for that Olympic spot is Maria. However, with the way Anna skated at SC and the news we're hearing out of Russia, I have very little faith that she will be healthy by nationals. I just don't think that someone who pulled out of an exhibition due to injury was healthy enough to resume full training within a week, especially after two really hard falls, and I'm scared she's being pushed/pushing herself too hard too fast.

If she is healthy.... who knows. I still think Anna has the most potential for huge scores out of the 3rd spot contenders when healthy. At this point, it's just a matter of her health, so let's hope she's getting the physical therapy she needs and that she can put up a pain-free skate in SA to silence all the naysayers and build up some confidence to nationals.

This is a fan fest of Anna ... So let's be optimistic .... I think it's still a open field for olympics ...
Liza, Elena, Maria ... there are in better shape but even Anna 's SP with pain had same or better score ...
Polina can beat Anna SP but her LP it's another story ( yes I belive in Anna swan lake ... please Anna show us a good swan lake ... becuase kaetlyn, alina aren't good black swan ... maria I like her swan lake but is a white one..)

One thing ( and you can think that i'm litle crazy) ... if the Russian federation thought that Anna isn't a candidate for olympics ... I think that they would send her to treat her back because they wouldn't be worry about how much time she would be without trainning with her treatment... if she is training and Russian Federation is letting her ... or her back pain can be fix ... or they still have hope for her in the olypmpics .... or the last one and I don't want to belive that they are complete irresponsible ...

when everybody doesn't belive in Anna, her fan fest must belive...

Here's the fan fest rules:

We understand that everyone has their favorites, and this is the place to gush !

We envision Fan Fests as fun places to read, post, and celebrate your favorites.

Please remember that this forum is not exempt from the Guidelines. As always, be respectful to each other's threads when posting and enjoy!

Fan Fest posters should be able to "gush," but NOT at the expense of another skater or of another skater's fans. That's just rude and and not very constructive.

Nor should folks who do not like a skater go to that skater's Fan Fest to troll or to "police" the fans there.

Have fun!

Polina showed that she has got game in the NHK. I think she will out perform Maria Sotskova (Polina beat Maria's personal best in her first outing as a senior)...but will the Federation allow the trifecta from Eteri's group at Sambo 70 to represent Russia?

Sadly, Anna would have to have a miraculous recovery to overtake the field. She is capable of the big numbers.

I hope Anna is recovering safely.

She should do whatever she feels is best for herself and her career. She is capable of big scores and wonderful performances. She just needs that confidence. And ice is slippery, stranger things have happened in figure skating. I wouldn't count her out yet.

My dream is Anna coming and winning Skate America with two perfect performances! Ah....sweet dreams!

I'll be satisfied if we see signs at SA that both Annas have accepted the situation and are taking the right steps to get back on track. No more breakdowns please!

My biggest hope is that Anna is healthy and confident by SA -- with her, health and confidence is all she needs to be a podium contender. No matter the placement (although I would love to see her on the podium), all I want is to see her big beautiful smile in the K&C after her free skate. I've been poking around the Russian news sites and there's no new news on her, which I can only take as a good sign. Less than two weeks left!!

I know it's impossible. That's why I called it a dream. Of course, I'm just as happy if Anna comes in 5th and doesn't break down. I'm actually pretty scared. Another competition like SC....I'm not sure she'll ever come back from that.

Let's not go there, if only for the sake of all of Anna's fans' sanity. If she's not feeling healthy by SA she should withdraw and that's that, and focus on healing and coming back strong next season. Our girl will be alright.

What? she will skip the GP?

Already got new gifts for Anna and ready to cheer for her again! Just hope to see a healthy Anna with good spirit, and wish that we're lucky enough to see her perform Anna Karenina or The Rose in the gala!
