Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

So how high to the max scores do we all think P/C will go this week? Must admit that I'm in absolute bliss mode, as the judges are finally doing their jobs and the way to gold is pretty clear for P/C. That FD is iconic, and the SD will outscore that mess of a whatever SD V/M produced this weekend. Then it will be WRs all the way to the Olympics. V/M's FD won't outscore P/C's FD (as seen by the judging at NHK), so it will be much like Worlds last year, but in reverse. Last year was painful for sure, but it sure is worth it now!! Allez!!!
I admire your optimism:) but I prefer to remain very cautious: certainly, the results of the Cup of China have been very positive and their programs are :luv17: but I prefer to wait until the two couples compete on the same competition before starting to believe (a little) in the title...

I wish them the very best in Grenoble. :hap10: It's Wednesday and I'm starting to stress, it's silly but :drama:

Same here ! I don't even want them to increase their Base Value in the FD because I want that 1.5 margin that they can get after the competition (well I don't want the judges to give everything out yet so that you can peak later on, obviously I'd like that...). I also think judges aren't too keen on giving max BV before GPF to the top 2, because of the wow effect it can bring to the GPF and Olys.
However, I want that 1.5 missing in the SD for sure !
The panel is changing and everything so I don't know how it will translate for levels, but I'm not worried. I'm sure they want to get out there and perform and they'll feel the big support from the homecrowd.
And I'm not going to think about any possible titles until GPF for sure, last year served us wrong, not doing it again. Thankfully I appreciate the skating very much and a placement isn't going to change it for sure (I have to say, I feel lucky for that). But I want that consistency. 200 ? Not necessarily. But clean skates, an increase in BV in the SD, at least the same in FD, and that will do !

Are you going to Grenoble Maya ? :)

I agree with this sentiment in terms of looking at outside competitors.

But at the same time, Gabby and Guillaume have a great opportunity here.

If they get over 118 for the free dance, they will have the four highest free dance scores ever- a huge achievement.
If they get the levels they got at Cup of China, they will most likely break 200 again and have the two highest combined scores ever.
And if they add a level (a level 4 on the circa step for the free being most likely: it looked very smooth at cup of china) they will probably break their recent combined world record.

In terms of them being able to achieve some or all of the above, what can I say, I am most definitely optimistic!: and I am sure they are aiming to add a level here.

Beyond that, the way they reacted to the scores in the kiss and cry at Cup of China was lovely and just right!: i foresee a joyous and unburdened short and free at this championship, and am very much looking forward to it!

!

You know what ? When they got their 119 at CoC (~same as worlds when a level was missing) I thought : obviously, it's Cist4 and Midline3. It was the opposite ! Midline4 (but "only" +2s across the boards.. so it can get much better :agree:) however that Cist was just   (I still didn't get their level3 on the Cist at worlds to be honest). I re-checked everything and it looked so good, and I stand up to what I said : their step sequences are one of their strongest elements, they make it look easy, floating, effortless and very deep in edges (their Pst in CoC was so good).
Like I said, maybe the judges didn't want to give out +levels4s everywhere now, or of course didn't think it was worth getting all lvl4s, I just thought both levels were switched.
I'm also looking foward for more media exposure : that's good because if they get a lot, it won't affect them too much on a daily basis since they don't live in France

Well, let's not forget that V/M made two mistakes. If it weren't for that two misteps in SD&FD, the score would have been higher. Not sure abour FD, but they'd have broke their WR in SD. Also, they compete better if they face their biggest oponnets directly. So we will know more at the GPF, not before.
P/C had an awesome competition in China and personally I think we'll see more improvements and again two great perfomances. I cannot tell whether the scores will be even higher or not. But it'd be definitely better if they got that 'even more' at GPF and the Olympics than now and not later.

Maya: Don't worry, everything will be fine. G&G as well as your travels. Enjoy these days and don't worry about scores etc. Remember China, they were amazing. :) You can always worry later when you won't be able to attend a competition.

Oh, I know judges will pace the scores so that the best ones will come at the Olympics, not worried about that. It's just fun to see them go up and up at every comp until they max at Olys. I wonder if they can pull off a Torvill and Dean and get all level 4s and all 10s in PCS at Olys? Just the start of a legendary career....

O I agree. That circular step last year was my favourite bit of the whole freedance. Usually that bit after a well produced start and a stunning lift and the twizzles out of the way is where a lot of people's free skating becomes very obviously about doing what is necessary. But theirs was strong and powerful and compelling; as was the re-choreographed Diagonal step at Worlds, too.

Their skating skills are unmatched. Hopefully this year they'll get proper credit for them in the SD and FD. They should be getting level 4s with all +3s on their step sequences in both the SD and FD, and my prediction is that is what they'll be getting come Olympics.

Maya and Camille, how happy you are to see this beauty with your own eyes:):party2: Enjoy, have fun and then share your impressions with us please. I hope you will have a great weekend!

Yes, I just can't wait to saw them but also all the french team and the ice dancer !!!

It's just so sad that so many people can't come because of the location, i hope the TV coverage will be as good as the other grand prix events.

Don't worry there will be some reports ;)

For French people : Francetv Sport website is going to livestream the whole competition ! For others, you can still try it with a VPN, but that's not a given.

"4 Gabriella PAPADAKIS / Guillaume CIZERON
SD: Shape of You and Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran, remastered by Karl Hugo; choreo. by Marie-France Dubreuil, Christopher Dean
FD: Piano Sonata N. 14 in C sharp minor, Op. 27, No 2. "Moonlight Sonata", Adagio Sostenuto, by Ludwig van Beethoven performed by Steve Anderson, "Moonlight Sonata", Presto Agitato by Ludwig van Beethoven, choreo. by Marie-France Dubreuil, Christopher Dean"

I noticed it for a second time in Grand Prix thread.
Christopher Dean has a share in creation of P/C "Moonlight sonata" or it is some mistake?

I think the info is got from the isu bio page http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00011507.htm, which doesn't attribute which programme is by which choreographer. The short is by Dean, the Free is by Dubreuil, to the best of anyone's knowledge. There is also undoubtedly Cirio input on the free, and Hageneur and Gabi and Guillaume input on both.

Oh, I'm so happy they didn't change their costumes. I'm secretly hoping for a new lift at the end of the FD. Thank you so much for the link. :)
Seriously, the first three days of a week usually pass so quickly, but the competition on Friday+Saturday seem so far away on Thursday. I want a time machine.

And I am dreaming of a new lift in the short dance. Guillaume's spread eagle is the best I've seen so far but I want something truly mind blowing. However, if they don't change anything it will be okay for me too.
Lots of waiting for a few minutes of joy is the fate of a figure skating fan.:hap85:
