Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

Alain, do you have the link for your document? I think that Maya is right and it might be a rule change for this year......

For the record, i would much prefer Alain's order...... but in the end of the day I'm sure P/C will bring it.....

I also really want them to skate last in the free.......after V/M, S/S or H/D as the other two couples in the group- just because MS will be a real contrast.

Sure Icetigger, this document is really great, there's everything you need to know on the Grand-Prix
here you are
http://www.isu.org/docman-documents-links/isu-files/event-documents/figure-skating-4/2017-18-6/gp-6/series-files-10/12133-gp-general-announcement-2017-18-final/file

Yeah but the document I looked to applies for the Grand-Prix and there's a specific one for the final, whose link was posted by Maya1985..
So the starting order is based on the reverse qualification order and V/M will skate one before last while P/C will skate last

I think this pertains to the previous Grand Prix events. Indeed, the startibg orderin the SD there was determined depending on the world standings. At the final we will see skaters in reverse order of the ranking in which they
have qualified for the Final, i.e. C/L, H/D, C/B, S/S, V/M, P/C.

Thanks for clearing it up, Alain! :) Either way, I'm sure that G&G are ready to hear a big score posted by V/M and this time, they know they can get a huge SD score, too.

These two documents really do state two different versions of the SD starting order determination. One says it's the reverse order of the qualification, the other states that it's the reverse order of the world standings. I'm hoping that the one provided by Alain turns out to be true, although I'm sure that either way, G&G know they're gonna be competing against a big number posted by their rivals.

No, these documents state the same. Page 13.
9.3 Special Regulations for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final
Skaters/Couples will start the Short Program/Short Dance in reverse order of the ranking order in which they
have qualified for the Final. In the case of a tie, there will be a draw to determine who skates first.
The starting order for the Free Skating/Free Dance will be conducted by a draw in line with the detailed
provisions of ISU Rule 513 as stated in the 2016 Technical Rules Single & Pair Skating/Ice Dance.

Yup, I posted this before Alain confirmed that indeed the link provided by Maya is the one that applies to the GPF ;) My mistake.

I am sorry, I am slow, and didn't see your post. I hope P/C will have the nerves of steel. I am nervous already. I will definitely get grey hair at the end of the season.

Sounds like I managed to confuse almost everyone

Confusion is quite common in this sport!

No worries. :) I wish them the best, those WRs definitely must've boosted their confidence. Let's see how well they can put that and last year's learning experience to use this time!

By the looks of the previous grand prix finals, the skating order rules have changed from previous years........ Hence the confusion! Last year there was a draw in line with rule 513 for all events http://www.isu.org/communications/505-2042-decisions-of-the-isu-council-geneva-september-2016/file, which I presume means it was taken from world standings?

No wonder some of us are confused! Maya was on the ball on this one.

It seems to me the more ideal order would be P/C skating after V/M but not immediately after.
However this order at the GPF might serve as another opportunity for P/C to prepare mentally for a potentially similar scenario at the Olympics.

What we may consider as being the worst running order is definitely the best for Gabriella and Guillaume. They like challenges so it's completely fine. V/M are great skaters and we are all looking forward to seeing an exciting competition in Nagoya, whatever the running order is.

Also, compared to last season, the situation is quite different. G&G Olympic programs were thought a long time ago and they prepared them cautiously very early. They improved them continuously for the best since the Masters in Villard-de-Lans, the Finlandia Trophy, the Cup of China and more recently the Internationaux de France. I think it's almost unbelievable to imagine the fantastic work they did to reach such performance level at this time of the season, keeping in mind they will significantly polish both programs - non stop - until the Worlds, as they always do.

We should also address a very big Thank You to Christopher Dean for his key contribution to the "Shape of you" Short Dance. Together with Jayne Torvill, he contributed so much to make ice dance moving forward because both were highly talented dancers and, of course, genius skaters. What a great honour and a great opportunity to have a choreographer like Chris Dean!

We should also warmly thank Jeffrey Cirio and M-F Dubreuil for the gorgeous Moonlight Sonata FD. This free dance is a masterpiece performed by two artists. Like for the short, how great it must be to work and prepare the Olympic master dance with the Principal dancer at Boston Ballet!

Last but not least, we have to wait until GPF competition starts so, to fill the gap , I decided to publish some of the 1000 pics I took in Grenoble ;)
These pics were taken during the SD and FD practices.

Upon reflection, I'm not worried about the running order, either. The degree to which I think Gabi and Gui are better artists than anyone else in the field is the degree to which I think they will become better competitors than anyone else in the field, this Olympic season.

Fully agree. They did a fantastic job the last 3 seasons. They became European and World Champions at 19 and 20. They're young, it's a fact but they managed to create the magic, pass on emotions and feelings to the audiences. I will never forget the standing ovations they got in Stockholm, Shanghai, Bratislava, Boston, Ostrava and Helsinki.
Now it's their moment, their season. We have to trust them and be confident. They deserve it.

alain06fr, did you see Jayne in Grenoble? Apparently she gave standing ovation to Gabi and Guillaume.

Just one correction. Cirio is now a principal with American Ballet Theater in NYC.. But of course, he made his name at Boston Ballet.

He is well regarded by dance critics and well liked by New York audiences.

Hi Rossig, I was lucky enough to meet her and talk to her right after the short dance practice. She was seating next to the judges and the referee. She is an ice dance legend so it was very impressive to talk to her in person. She was extremely nice. She wanted to support Gabriella and Guillaume. She met them of course in Grenoble. She even recorded an interview for the French TV. And yes, she gave a standing ovation to Gabriella and Guillaume, that's true. I had the feeling she thinks Gaby and Guillaume bring (and will bring in the next years) so much to ice dance, just like she did with Chris some years ago.

Oh, thank you. She is a lovely and very down to earth person despite being an ice dance legend. And I have the same feeling as you about what she thinks about G&G.
