2017-18 State of U.S. Ladies Skating

Does anyone else wonder if Ashley perhaps got pressure from the USFSA to change from Moulin Rouge before Nationals/Olympics? Otherwise they risk that the fans that only watch nationals and the olympics will see the same program from her as Sochi?

^^^ I think she also got some pressure from Raf and Lori.....They spent a good deal of time training LaLa Land and for her not to use it, was probably quite disappointing to them. I know Ashley said she wasn't feeling the program but, I'm sure they hoped she'd put it out for the judges to see before she abandoned it.

 She had different programs in Sochi.

Well, lets see:
Last year (full season), Ashley was 2nd at Nationals, 7th at Worlds and first alternate for the GPF. No one but Karen compared.
This year (half season so far), Ashley was one of only 2 USA ladies to medal. And, despite skating with injury, was solidly ahead of Karen (again) in SP at SA.

This isn't an issue of whether Ashley is as good in 2018 as she was in 2016. It's whether there are THREE U.S. ladies with two-season results that are better.

YES!!!! Thank you

Raf was the one who first suggested that she switch to Moulin Rouge. I think this was all Ashley's decision.

But wasn't Raf the one who suggested the change in the first place? And I thought Shae was the choreographer of LaLa Land?

I never thought it was a good idea for Ashley to skate old programs because judges might remember her previous performances and rate her current performance unfavorably vs a remembered one. It is a risky move.

If they were gong to go back to an old program, I think they should have gone back to The Black Swan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTfuSEHn4cc

Do you guys realize skaters can't just pull an old program out of their pockets and do it the way you are used to it? It isn't up to current standards and components etc. :palmf:

I'm so tired of hearing on here.....Well he/she/they should just go back to something they skated 5+ years ago. :bang:

Also, why would Ashley want to go head to head with Osmond with Black Swan. :hopelessness:

Her poor SP performance at SkAm, followed by her pullout during the LP, followed by this late change of program have opened the doors for doubt.

I'm going out on a limb. I predict she WD's from US Nats and petitions for an Olympic spot.

We just have to disagree here and that's fine. I'd rather see Ashley bring The Black Swan up to date than stay with MR. It would certainly seem fresher and since she was so good at that program, I think she might have enjoyed going back to it. It's not really worth going into since it won't be happening.

Please skating gods, no more swan lakes this season!

Oh please. That would be artistic suicide, besides she's doing LA LA LAND. Everyone just needs to leave it alone already. :rolleye:

It would be nightmare pr. Say starr, mirai, chen got 3rd at nationals. Us skate authorities give 3rd olympic spot to ashley again. Not good.

Its not like ashley is super competitive with russian skaters , if they make it to olys.

Not super competitive with the Russians? How about "not competitive at all." None of the US women will, barring a flash of lightning from an up-and-comer.

If that does happens, do you think Ashley would be given a spot?

Would she? Probably.

Should she? No.
