2017-18 State of U.S. Ladies Skating

:palmf: Her first (incomplete) sentence has five "likes". I honestly wish we, as a society, would stop appreciating that. For the sake of our future.

Disclaimer: this has nothing to do with Mirai's skating, ever. It's just her video interviews I have absolutely zero tolerance for. Or anyone who talks like that. I refuse to believe she cannot produce a coherent sentence because that would make me just sad.

Plus....If you live in California, you hear "Like" from everyone. Even the Police Chief said it the other day. The problem that most elite performers have during the height of their competitive seasons, is that they don't spend time with "Regular" people. Mirai is a California girl and I'm sure that all of her friends back in So. Cal, still say "like" as well.

I used to say it ALL the time. Even now I'll catch myself say or write it, but not nearly as often. I figured, if I had something to say, better use proper words with meaning to do it.

Also, it's not just those likes. Listen to the other skaters featured. Full, coherent sentences. Even the girls from California. I listened to Mirai's "messages to younger self" or whatever it was called. She spoke for a few minutes and said nothing. That bothers me. For god's sake girl, you are an Olympian. Why are you trying to sound like a Kardashian?

Either way. Good luck to Mirai the skater in the free. It is impressive that after eight years she will make the Olympic team. No small feat.

Nagasu’s spot on the team ain’t sewn up yet, folks...she has allowed nerves to get the better of her on multiple occasions during the FS at Nationals...

One tweeter said she just practiced on unofficial ice.

ESPN says she missed practice because she's sick (which I suppose could really still just mean she DID actually practice but on unofficial ice like the other tweet indicates)

But after struggling with consistency, if she really is actually sick going into tomorrow, that probably doesn't bode well for her stamina / likelihood to fully rotate.

Anxiety can make you seriously ill. However, sometimes this happens to high performers and it’s “just” part of the preparation process. By the day of the event/exam/competition/performance they are “on”.

....geez. Why don’t we just let people live their lives and let them talk the way they want to talk instead of trying to restrict them into a view of what YOU think they should be?
I think she’s cute and fun, which appeals to the audience. And in the end, that’s all that really matters.

My opinion, to which I am entitled to. I was merely expressing what bothers me, to which I am also entitled to.
Furthermore, appealing to the audience is not at all what matters. For Mirai, for you, me, for anyone.

Serving notice that a new Sampson movie is coming out this year so we’ll finally be seeing skaters use a different version of Sampson and Delilah!

Also, why wasn’t Karen on practice yesterday? Is she ok??

I'm hoping she skated on unofficial ice. It must have been extremely nerve-wracking to skate on official ice right before the FS. Personally if I was in her shoes I would have probably done this too. In some interview she mentioned that she likens herself to the "quiet assassin" who stikes unexpectedly, let's hope that's what she is preparing for.

For such a harmless interview this is such a toxic comment - there are plenty of interviews where Mirai is perfectly “coherent” as you say - https://youtu.be/XHf9Nn5Z-Wo
No need to be nasty

According to ESPN, Chen was (is??) sick...which is why she missed official practice yesterday.

What unfortunate timing. It would be a real shame if this would cause her to miss out on an Olympic spot that she would have been able to earn had she been healthy.

It really was neither toxic nor nasty. Look at my following post.
Also, I went on to find a piece where she talks about the triple Axel where she sounds perfectly normal and was really glad to find it. But I do not think her "Cali girl interviews" do her any favours.

I hope Amber can skate clean. She's got some great skills and if she could put it together has nice jumps. Maybe a 4 continents spot for her?

It may have been said before, (I'm sorry for re-hashing) but I don't just think it's the score that shows the USFSA might be a little annoyed...but what happened to Ashley's Bridgestone commercial? I haven't seen it during the Men's SP or the Ladies's SP (I didn't watch the whole NBC broadcast though), and I remember it being CONSTANTLY played during Skate America commercial breaks.
