2017-18 State of U.S. Men's Figure Skating

Jesus Adam shows great sportmanship and tries to confort Ross and there are still people who are unhappy.

Sometimes I think no matter what people do, they will be still critisized.

It sounds disingenuous. :sarcasm:

Why should Adam be proud of Ross' skating?

Imagine if Karen had tweeted to Ashley "I'm so proud of your performance of LLL, so well interpreted! :agree:"

Agree with the team. However, I think it's a bit tacky that Jason is 1st alternate over Ross.

I don't know about tacky, but I agree that it's just twisting the knife in the wound. Ross should definitely be at least 1st alternate. I feel blue :(

Sam Auxier: The vote was 11 to 1.

I mean, I agree with sending Adam but I thought it would have been harder to pick. I guess the body of work is what really counts.

Alternates: 1st alt Jason Brown, 2nd alt Ross Miner, 3rd alt Max Aaron

Bit surprised Ross isn't even 1st alternate

I wonder if Ross will even get chosen for Worlds. Hopefully he'll at least get to skate in SOI.

chen: I train w him every day. I definitely wouldn't be the skater that i am without him by my side
zhou: Adam is really deserving & we know he's a fighter
rippon: I'm so excited that my 2 sons are doing so well and i'm happy to be their father

lol

Wow. I am surprised that Max was slotted in 4CC over Hochstein. No doubt this was a disastrous Nationals for Max. I guess this "body of work" concept has legs for the usfsa. Interesting, too, that Jason is first alternate for Worlds. I think there is a good chance that we'll see Jason at Worlds.

I think that the Olympic team is logical and I fully agree with it, but the alternates/Worlds/4CC choices are a real head scratcher.

I wish he would stop talking himself up. I think it's right that he's going but at this point, after all the talk prior to Nationals, he just needs to say thank you and resume practices.

I don't get how him wanting to turn this setback at Nationals into a positive Olympic experience is talking himself up.

Many athletes - including many faves of ours - hope to turn bad experiences into strength. If an athlete had a bad loss or were out due to injury and this athlete/other people professed that he/she would turn this frustration into strength and were determined to have a strong Olympic performance, I don't think one could hold it against them for being optimistic, or view it as self aggrandization.

Adam has faced considerable struggle, and it took a lot to get to where he is now --- he can say whatever he wants to say.

Uh, because he is proud of Ross for turning in an awesome performance after many rough competitions.

Because they are athletes who have faced trials and tribulations, have been teammates for many years, and they can be happy for each other?

I guess some will just vilify Adam, and put it in some negative context, no matter what he says.

Also, if Karen lauded LLL what is the issue?

he can say whatever he wants to say.

Of course he can, I don't recall anyone saying he cannot or trying to forbid it.

But there will be reactions to what he says and considering the lead up to the Nationals, the events there, the reactions to the choices, the smartest thing now is to just say thanks and move on. He doesn't have to of course, his choice. But perception matters, it always has and in times of perceived controversy, it's best to keep your head down. You can say it doesn't matter what people say but it kind of actually does.
I like Adam a lot, I cannot wait to see Birds at PC and I think this would make his life easier, as I know a bit about perceptions, but :confused2:

How is it disingenuous? You do know that Ross and Adam have skated and been in the same friends circles for years right? You can see it in the medal ceremony - Adam and Nathan have a great relationship as training mates, but you could see the hug between Adam and Ross was longer and just as genuine owing to their history (plus the fact that Adam had mad props for Ross' performance given that Ross is fellow skater who is no longer a teen phenom).

There are those who will "get it" and those who don't. :sarcasm:

They certainly found a way to prop up their Golden boy Jason Brown :rolleye:

I think what they did here was even more of a joke and sneeky then giving even higher PCS marks to make up for the weak tech. content :disagree:

If one really can't see that what goes on in front of the cameras at a National ceremony might *not* be indicative of what really goes on behind when athletes are competing for precious few slots for the Olympics then there's no point to debate is there? :sarcasm:

And yeah, getting on the team means so little to athlete that Ashley is publicly *furious*...what's a little Olympic placement compared to best skating buddies right?

So why not campaign For Ross to go to the Olympics

I'm more surprised that Grant wasn't selected as an alternate..........He beat both Jason and Max!!!!
