2017-18 State of U.S. Ladies Skating

Not under the current judging system--better to have high-value elements and get some points for them even if you stumble.
No lol it was only for quad in men and 3A in ladies. And you have to fully rotated it. Since ladies didnt have quad its better to perform easier tech and be clean. falling/stepout/UR in 3Lz-3T is same with base value of 3T+3T. If you do it clean you can have + GOE and get extra 1~1.5 points so its better to perform easier tech clean than doing harder tech but with stumble

Does team event Bronze count? (I'm excited Bradie is on the team because she is the only US lady I trust not to blow it in the team event.)

In my opinion it "counts" as in you get a medal, but it doesn't really count. When someone says 2014 Olympic medalist, do you even stop to think whether they mean athletes in the team event? Let's be real - team event medals are little more than participation medals for Russian, Canadian and US skaters lucky enough to be selected. Might as well combine biathlon, snowboard and ice dance and call it a team event.

I think Bradie should be given pretty (and expensive) costumes and a nice hairstyle which complements her face. She is a 19 year old skating to Cindrella, at least give her a top-skater look now that she is the U.S. number 1.

Does the Fed pay for such things for the Olympics at least?

I think it’s got to be somewhat a challenge to find hairstyles for all of her hair since it’s so long.

Anyone else see gracie’s tweets saying she’s inspired and wants more than anything to come back to skating. Gracie could do as mirai and be there in 2022

Girls will be doing 3A like they’re normal by then. Maybe quads. Can Gracie do them? Maybe a quad (which is already pretty inconceivable) but probably not a 3A.

Throw some Lisa McKinnon dresses at her!

If they don't all start doing them after Midori and Tonya, they're not going to start doing them en masse by 2022. Gracie's a terrific athlete. Sounds like looking at Nationals from the outside did her some good.

Bradie could do the mid program costume change, first the pre-ball gown Cinderella, with grey dress and smokey eyes. She should also wear only one skate.

In what planet? how many girls have routinely done the 3A in competition since Tonya and Midori?
And when have you seen a quad landed in senior competition?

3A will remain a nice cherry on top for a couple of skaters and maybe in 4 years we get to see a quad landed, one. That's it.

First congrats for mirai
Now.... I am the only one that thinks that braddie tennel is a poor version of polina edmuns and gracie gold ... let me explain physically she is like polina edmunds 4 years ago but without her elegance skating .... but she has a blue dress and the LP is about a princess like gracie gold in the olympic season ( was the sleeping beauty and was a ballet not disney but still a princess) ... and don't have the personallity on ice of none of them ( and I like polina better now then 4 years ago)... so a poor version

But if she can land jumps .... maybe a top 8/6 in the olympics I don't think she will do better then that ....

😂😂😂😂😂
Anything is better than the unimaginative blue dress and the childish headband from Claire’s.
I know it sounds mean, but I’m not attacking Bradie’s personality or looks. I’m commenting on her packaging.

But yet Yulia Lipnitskaya is the youngest OGM?

Koralai, I adore your take on this and could not agree more, although I intend to take it a step further. :)

People who scornfully dismiss this particular Cinderella music and movie as "oh, Disney princess, how juvenile" have probably not seen the movie and have no idea how mature the themes are. hmmm. Kenneth Branagh directed. Chris Weitz wrote the script; he also wrote this year's The Mountain Between Us.

About time and the ticking clock: One of the most interesting things in the movie is how much time Cinderella has to escape, once the midnight chimes start to gong. It's one of those huge clocks for the village, and the striking chimes are very slow. She runs, but in a circuitous route. A small but key moment in the movie is that when she has the opportunity, she does a double-take, right in the middle of her flight, to go back and tell the King how much his son loves him. It fits right in with the motto of the movie, "have courage and be kind."

So I think there's a double meaning to your words: an awareness that the moment needed to realize a dream is fleeting, and that if you don't seize it while you are still within it, that moment may pass forever. Here's my take: The moment is now, and yet there's still plenty of time within that moment to complete whatever calls out to be completed, and still be kind. The theme is foreshadowed earlier, when the tiny (withered-like-a-smiling-apple) crone to whom Cinderella gives a bowl of milk says that such a small act of kindness can mean everything ... then whirls herself into a fairy godmother, complete with a shower of stars.

Thanks so much for writing your thoughts here about Bradie's program and how much deeper it goes.

Just want to say thanks for joining me in doing a "close reading" of her program. I feel like I'm back in an English class, in the best possible way! I think you're right to point out that extra nuance: the moment is fleeting, but it still gives you the opportunity to do what you need to do, and even to go one step above that, if you live fully within it.

So yeah, just because most people know the Cinderella story through Disney doesn't mean that Disney owns that story. They took it from much older sources, and it, like all fairy tales and folk tales, is full of evocative meaning and fascinating imagery that lends itself to reinterpretation. So good on Bradie for taking that on.

Arakawa won gold at 24 in Torino
We talk a lot about gold medalists tending to be younger, but many Silver & Bronze medalists at recent Olympics have been 23 or older.
2014: Kim Yuna @ 23 (silver), Carolina Kostner @ 27 (bronze)
2010: Joannie Rochette @ 24 (bronze)
2006: Irina Slutskaya @ 27 (bronze)
2002: Irina Slutskaya @ 23 (silver)
1994: Nancy Kerrigan @ 24 (silver)

That would be amazing!!! Quick change costumes in figure skating? My heart would burst from too much excitement! (I’m not being sarcastic, I have a strong interest in costumes, theatre, and skating)

I have no idea to be honest. Considering you wrote that I suppose she was younger than Tara?
Either way, I was stating my view of the team event - it is forced and I feel it was introduced so that Russian skaters could triumph at Olympics in Russia. I might be wrong and the proposal may have come from another country. Anyone know which country proposed the team event to be introduced?

Figure skating is an individual sport and nothing about it screams "team". I'll say it again - if you want a team ice skating event, we already have a sport for that.

Lol..no wonder the sport is on the decline with attitudes like this about. :disagree:

I love the team event! Maybe even more than the individual even if for very different reasons.

Well, figure skating team event is more like a mixed relay.

I think it's quite nice. Any reason to see more performances is a good reason to me.
