Ashley Wagner

Now I believe everything was decided from the beginning. And I'm mad. And concerned Ashley ending her carrier like that :sad21:

I was a little scared when she missed the 3sal but thought her pcs would make up for it... turns out it didn't :scratch2: Am I right in thinking that Pyeongchang is out of the question now? Even so, I'm super proud of her for putting down such strong performances after her disappointing start of the season, injury and a program switch; it truly takes a very strong mind to do that.

USFS should at least send Ashley to Worlds.

I'm ready for another redemption Worlds from her!
Yes! Please, skating gods, let her end this season on a high note

Not even named to Worlds? USFS, you don't deserve Ash Wagner. Looking at these Nationals and last season is okay, but remember the several months in between ? :curse:
I'm honestly devastated. Even the Japanese fed was smarter and more fair.

I would feel accepting of this result if it was truly because Ashley had faltered in comparison to Karen. However, it does seem to me that she was purposefully held back from the start. I also did not appreciate how NBC retold the story of 2014, but without proper context. This whole thing makes me truly sad.

She was held back. Skate America became her nemesis. Remember her carrier and feel better. Three us titles, word silver medalist, and the only lady who consistently made it to Grand Prix finals....I am a very proud fan. Now it’s up to her to turn her carrier around and make some money in the skating industry.

Do you think she’ll do 4CC?

My guess is that she will. It's in Taiwan, close to Japan; audiences there love her; and the issue of too short time for travel to Asia before oly or worlds is a non-issue.

Most of all, Ashley is fierce. She'll want to show the world La La Land again, with more mileage. Like she said in the mixed zone, she's sure that LLL program would get her to where she wanted to be. I dearly, dearly hope I'm right about all this.

I also hope she doesn't retire this year. I love to see her competing. Whatever is best for her, though; she's said it gets harder every year, as did Javier. They are the same age.

4CC is in Taiwan.

But there will probably be lots of Japanese fans there. When my daughter watched some videos of worlds she asked me "It's in Helsinki, right? Why are all the fans Japanese?" Thank god for the Japanese fans!

this salchow is really cursed this season between her and wakaba, I'm disappointed that she does not make the world championship I like her lalaland although he needs a little more work. Good luck Ashley failures make better athletes.

Oopsie!:reye: Thanks for the correction; I'll fix it in my earlier post.

Yeah! that must be what I was thinking. [Not!]. You're so right, I'm sure there will be a lot of Japanese fans, and ITA, thank heavens for them. At SA 2013 in Detroit, there were tons ... and we were impressed by how many different national flags they had with them, folded and at the ready, to show for so many of the skaters. Very cool.

Per her instagram story, Ashley announced that she will be appearing on the Today Show tomorrow morning. Wonder what she's there to talk about. :scratch3:

Yippee!!:hap10: It sounds like Ashley's going to 4CC. (Dang, I hope she was talking about 4cc!)

She said on Today this morning that she's training for a competition. She also said that, in her response to her scores, she was only questioning her own marks; she found it "confusing" to get lower component scores than in a competition where she was injured. Among other great things. :)

I'm sure she is referring to 4CC which I am so excited to hear. She really has to accept that assignment to show that she is serious about being an Olympic alternate - none of the "I need to stay home and train" business.

I was at Nationals and watched Ashley hit both 3-3 combinations in practices and warm-ups.. I wish she had fought harder for the sal but watching her 1st performance of LLL was definitely a high point. She still blew everyone away with her performance and interpretation and I am so upset about her scores.

I was able to talk to Ashley after one of her practice sessions and had the chance to tell her what any amazing gift she has for performance and that she is the sole reason that after so many years of watching figure skating on TV, I wanted to see it live. Then I thanked her profusely. She is amazing.

Maybe I missed anyone else but look who the Today show wants to interview - not the Olympic team members but our crazy, wonderful, outspoken Ashley Wagner! She never fails to create an amazing story on or off the ice.

This is making me cry. I made the mistake of watching it on NBC (my IN connection was being a little choppy and I didn't want to miss anything). Tara babbled through the beginning of the program, right where Ashley was setting up the ambience and meaning of the program, and the lyrics were telling the story. So anyone who watched it via NBC didn't get the effect of the program ... far from it. No wonder people thought it fell flat.

But when you tell me that she blew everyone away with her performance and interpretation, I certainly believe you. I was present when she did precisely that at nationals in 2015 and also in 2017, when she had to follow Karen's truly awesome program. She took the energy in the arena and commanded the place. I've never seen (more precisely, felt) anyone else do that to the extent she did.

It's truly distressing what the judges did to her. She will perform with a vengeance at 4CC, and I do mean vengeance. I realized later, driving off to swim laps, that it's possible the show asked her not to specify which competition she was preparing for, so as not to confuse the issue for casual viewers.

I'm happy for her it's a good opportunity to show that she is strong and that choosing LALA LAND was a good idea, she has two weeks to improve it.
I do not mind her star side it is good to have confidence and she knows how to play
