OK, but in this case, all the other scores were clustered around the same from the other judges (except CA, who scored him very highly, still), so it's a very slight effect.

Not saying it's right, of course. I wish the judging were more transparent.

no no you are right it didn't change much in this case. It's the tech calls that killed his chances actually here.
The process is still so gross to me. No professional conscience at all.

No it doesn’t not directly. Something else did bother me that made a difference, but here what bothered me was how extreme the behavior was, 25pts. It shouldn't be a precedent. But if I want to deconstruct the thing I felt made a difference I would be talking about it at the events thread.
Here I can talk about many things depending on my own day...composers for programs perhaps, maybe even Chopin? :)

actually i'd quite like for him to do Chopin. Something like nocturne op48 https://youtu.be/liTSRH4fix4?t=1h6m13s
i'd personnally also like Satie. Gnossienne n°5 https://youtu.be/5pyhBJzuixM?t=37m2s or Danses de travers https://youtu.be/5pyhBJzuixM?t=1h45s
It would be very interesting because even when he goes classical, Shoma looks really modern. His way of moving has that sensual feeling, a kind of liquidy quality and that edginess that make him stand out. I always think that Sui and Han have the same kind of really modern/contemporary style even when they take on classics. No wonder i love them too.

But tbh i also would like for him to go really edgy. Cultivate those qualities and go for a very modern, avant-garde music :)

Oooh - something quirky, edgy, modern. But I love Satie and Chopin too!...We should have had Kanna and Latremu find Coach Fluffy and wrestle her to the ground and force her to tell us what his music is for next year. $100 says she knows already! :handw: Please tell us Fluffy!

ETA -- I met Rohene Ward at Worlds at Helsinki and asked him if he knew what programs Jason was using for his Olympic year. He was SO funny! He laughed and said, "Oh....maybe!" I asked if he could tell me and promised I wouldn't tell anyone! Needless to say, he didn't tell me. The teams all do plan WAY in advance though I think.

Oh, I saw fluffy after the men's FS, I actually have a picture with her! If you'd told me earlier, I would have given her a list. [emoji16] Haha, wow, how gutsy!

Do you think they already have the music laid out for next season?

Remember we found out that they had picked Turandot and already had started designing the costumes in Jan. of 2017. Maybe they did that because it's an Olympic year, but I don't know. With all the competitions Fluffy goes to, I don't know how she has time to do choreography and all the other stuff she does. She is truly amazing and so dedicated.

Oh, are you going to post your picture of Fluffy?!

I know some people here are not big fans of TSL, i personnally really love them but anyways, they always have been very complimentary of Shoma and once again they had quite interesting things to say in their 4 continents recap : https://youtu.be/pEoW6WZ13Gs?t=1h6m23s
While Dave thought the program is becoming a bit tired because he has done it so much (which i can understand frankly especially since Turandot was never one of my favourite Shoma program to begin with), Jonathan thought the attention to detail, the interpretation, the moves were vastly improved and the program was really taking shape now. They both thought he should have won and that his peaking progress was going great. They expect him to deliver at OG.
(they also want him to do ice dance with Jean Luc Baker lol)

Thanks for the heads up. I will watch when I get back home from work.

The costume looks better on television, but live, it was an ugly fluorescent gold. It's also bad luck to wear gold costumes at the Olympics...

These are great! I’ve often thought the Satie would be fitting as well! Especially the Gnossienne. There’s musical “breathing” space with Satie, I can see the entirety of his body responding to it, and the eloquent shapes every part of him is sensitive to, rare in skaters as they are comparatively unmoving in much of their bodies!
Chopin, yes. This one is incredible. In fact classical music he responds to, but it is an endless universe with the classical pieces (for me). Nocturnes would be lovely, and I would like to see what he makes with music that is more emotionally intimate.
The Berceuse is another one. The mazurka’s now, if the choreo is inventive could bring out other movement features. (I don’t imagine a mazurka dance but more the intricacy of feeling expressed. But maybe people will complain it’s not a mazurka! :ohwell:) I indulge myself in seeing him move to other classical pieces I enjoy, like the Brahms cello sextet, I forgot the key signature. But this has progression in the melody that moves me in hope and tenacity and then it is a variation on the melody that rises, and somehow I imagine him feeling that piece. The “problem” is how difficult it is to make these fit program time while still making musical sense.
I definitely want a change and have him do edgy, or pop songs too. One Direction or something. Or energetic in the sense of Good Boy Bad Men. (Oh! Do I have the name wrong?) He’s got to remember some aspect of that in himself! (I’m sorry I don’t have links to the pieces prepared, and thank you for yours!)

Since Shoma is (was?) a belieber he should skate to "sorry" lol. I'm sure it could be quite sexy and MUCH APPRECIATED by all his fans. He would probably gain some fans too....

love your other ideas too btw

Thx for posting that link. When I checked, it wasn't up yet. They did that one really fast. I found their remarks on Shoma's hands VERY interesting. Will definitely listen to the rest of it. I'm especially curious about the pairs.

Oh - awesome! Gramps is at it again posting baby pictures of Shomita. Be still my heart! https://pic.twitter.com/hbO56WE85a I still remember how he said he didn't talk about Shoma too much, because it was hard to talk about him without bragging. Just a normal, proud grandparent. I love it!

Congratulations to Shoma for the silver! :clapper: :hap36: He's on the right track towards the Olympics. Nice to see that he got positive GOEs on everything else except the underrotated jumps :)

My thoughts exactly.:yes: I quite much relieved his team decided to go back to the 2017 Worlds jump layouts, and also he's got back his stamina to hit all jumps, along with all 3 combos, in the second half. Despite the fall earlier, his attack and speed during the second half was really impressive! Shoma did skate with confidence, engagement and fire, I thought. Congrats for the silver medal at 4CC. Starting from 5th place at his first participation in 2015, one step at a time and gold is waiting next season. ;) Re not-winning any big title(s) yet among top Men, I said in the 4CC thread, 'Save the best for the next BIG competition!'

I always listen to TSL though my English is not good enough to understand all what they say. Very happy about Jonathan´s words, hope he is right about the planets.

Turandot is a difficult piece for fans because it has been used so many times in figure skating. But hopefully the changes in layout, spins and expression through the season have kept the program fresh for Shoma himself. At 4CC I saw no signs of boredom in him, on the contrary, 4CC version is the best of them imo and his interpretation was stunning there.

I watched Boyang´s LP three times. He was concentrating mainly on the jumps. For him that is surely the best strategy because he lost training time due to an injury and he is a great jumper. Don´t know is it a right expression here but I´d call his program at 4CC technical. Careful, rather slow skating, difficult jumps, simple transitions. The jumps still rule in scoring and also PCS seem go high in any case when the program is clean.
