Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

I just hope he won't be forcing himself to do 4lo and 4lz there just because doing it. He only needs to have 4S and 4T there

It's easy to say that but you might never have a GPF 2015 to boost his score as much as it did then. Judges aren't giving him nearly as many +3 as back then. He might need the 4Lo. He did, at Worlds, against Shoma.

to be fair he needed 4lo against Shoma because he lost entire combo in SP. If he skated clean SP and LP with 2/3 quads he would still win. Also he dropped out from top 3 after SP and got unfortunate draw for LP where all other favorites for medals were skating after him. In my opinion it was one of the main reasons why he got stingy score for Helsinki FS.

I agree that he can still win with toeloop and salchow but in this case he needs to be pristine clean in both programs, if he makes one serious mistakes he loses BV and TES advantage, whereas layout with lo or lz gives him a bit of room for mistakes. This is really tough situation where I don't know what decision is better. But I trust him and his team. At this rate I don't think he will go for 4lz again. But if he is going to go for 4lo in LP, I wish he played safe in sp and go for ACI layout he can score minimum 112 with it and maybe even 115 with Olympic scoring with all lvl 4 s and good GOE. That layout is very familiar to him and is in his muscle memory, he did it clean many times including a very first competition of the season where he had sore ankle. So I think having sal and toe in SP is the best he can do, I really don't know what is better for LP it is different monster.

at least I hope he will do short with just 4s and 4t. The score will be still untouchable for anyone

I was thinking about Yuzuru's arrival date, there is official practice for Men on the 13th in the main rink, so maybe he will come in order to participate in that? And if it is the case, he should arrive in Korea by the 12th since it is the morning practice, and then he might show up to cheer for the team Japan in K&C as Takahashi did in Sochi?

But after reading this, I thought it may be good for him to be in Canada as long as possible...

A patient suspected of food poisoning occurred in an employee dormitory of a security company of the Pyeongchang Olympic Games. Twenty-four people staying in a large accommodation facility complained of abdominal pain and vomiting were taken to a hospital. It is estimated that some employees were infected with Norovirus. Even in the athletes village, about 5 people are suspected of being infected.

Hope everyone will stay healthy :sad4:

Tested hypo and if he didn't miss his combo in the SP, he may have gotten over 111. String together a clean LP and some momentum to get better GOEs, Yuzu could have landed at 335 or even past 340 last season.

As for this momentum thingy that people always yap about...the only guy who's gained some momentum from relatively clean back to back programs so far this late in the season, is Boyang from 4CC. The other guys have been splatfesting throughout. Sure, some were clean at Nats, but due to it being Nats, we can't really do comparison of all the men together. Then again, Boyang isn't that loved by judges, so even the 4CC momentum is reduced compared to what it could be for other men. To be fair, Yuzu and the other guys are pretty much at the same starting line, though his Sochi win, and the recent Helsinki win, plus his fame for breaking records left and right, might actually have him a bit better off.

As for not doing TE, with the food poisoning news, the cold weather, flu issues, I'm kind of glad he's safely tucked in TCC? Better hear how Team Japan has everything readied first before taking the plunge.

This is the latest information, the number of the patient has reached about 36, apparently the virus has been spreading. But it also says the athletes have not infected at this point, which is a relief.

Norovirus is very common as same as Influenza in my country. If people get infected with it, they have similar symptoms of food poisoning. But the worst is, it is transmitted from person to person.

According to Orser at a press conference today, Yuzuru will definitely participate in the individual event but will not be doing the 4Lz.

I'm sure many people can have a sigh of relief now.

Edit: The article doesn't quote Brian directly so it's also probably best to wait for more confirmation from other sources.

Edit 2:
Sanspo apparently reports the same?

"Every jump other than the 4 Lutz are in good shape. It's surprising how well he has trained. Of course he can aim for gold."

I won't believe that he's not doing a 4Lz until the final note of Seimei plays. Seriously though, this is the best news we've gotten in a while.

All of this sounds like amazing news! I’m sure Yuzu will be bummed about 4lz but he really doesn’t need it if he’s clean. And he will have other opportunities in the future to try it out, now it would just be a risk

If he can't do it at Olys, he'll definitely bring it for Worlds.

I just want to thank everyone here for being overall calm, reasonable and positive-minded. It feels like everywhere else I go online people are completely counting him out or calling him "selfish" for not playing the media game and withdrawing from the team event, like... :curse:

(Not like skaters can win either way with publicity- one of my other favorites got criticized for doing too much press)

TBH this are really good news. That he is doing well and seeing Brian optimistic it's kind of a relief. 4lz or not 4lz Idc, I know he would have liked to do it but he has so little time that recovering the other jumps is already impressive.

I woke up with good news!! I'm reading the morning newspapers but looks like they all are reporting the same quotes of Brian. He was with Yuzuru until he left for Korea, so it is the latest information for sure. Please be healthy for two more weeks, Yuzuru
