Speaking of Jason...

YEEESSS!!!!! WHAT A NIGHT! WHAT AN EVENT!! WHAT A TEAM!! ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!! WAY TO GO USA!!! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! #WinterOlympics 🥉

I thought it was very sweet and supportive. So if Jason had any grudges (and I doubt he did, honestly) with Adam's RTs, he certainly isn't thinking of that now. And I bet he's inspired by the comeback stories of both Mirai and Adam -- maybe that will spur his own comeback in four years.

This tweet also comes with a possible development -- apparently he tweeted this from Palm Springs, Calif....which is home to Mr. Frank Carroll! Is Jason getting some training with him?

USOC presser coming up tonight (U.S. time) with U.S. men:

In local time in Korea:

Tuesday, Feb. 13
12 p.m. – Figure Skating (Men) – PyeongChang
Nathan Chen, Adam Rippon, Vincent Zhou

https://www.teamusa.org/Media/Games/PyeongChang-2018/Games-Media-Services/Press-Conferences

My guess(?) is that streaming will not be available. And that little, if any, video will be available.

But perhaps a fresh round of quotes/comments from these three.

I am curious esp. to hear from Vincent, who AFAIK has been out of the spotlight in Korea.

Hmmm ... Frank was with Denis at Four Continents. Wonder whether Frank is in Korea?

Off topic, but I hope that some day Jason will have the opportunity to meet Maame Biney, the trailblazer in U.S. short track speedskating (if they have not already met?).
For me, Maame has been one of the delights of 2018 OWG.
She is the personification of overt joy. (Kindred spirit of Jason, it would seem.)

Oh yeah, good point. I have no clue! Maybe Frank will come later, the men's competition isn't for a few days? Or it's possible that Jason is in PS for other reasons.

Okay totally OT for the US Men’s thread, but I just found this fantastic interview of D10 by Europe on Ice. He talks a lot about Frank, his injury, and his goals at Olympics:

... BTW, Adam and his fans were gravely disappointed, twice, by not making 2010 and 2014 Olympics. I wasn't even Adam's fan then, but I recall the disappointment. Max can try again, if he chooses to.

I don't understand what point (if any?) you are trying to make with this BTW.

True that Max can try again, if he chooses to.

That said, it is true also that it has been twice (2014 and 2018) for Max's fans as well that they have been gravely disappointed that Max did not make the Olympic team.

I was not following men's skating in 2010, but Adam's second disappointment is very much part of what I remember about 2014.
In 2014, I was sad most of all for Max, and I was sad for Adam too. (And for others.)

In 2018, I have been painfully aware of Max's second absence from OWG. At the same time, I am happy for Adam that he made the team on his third try, and that he contributed to a team medal.

ETA:
Karne, that was three years ago. Three. Years.

I am confused also that you think it was warranted to bring up the feelings of Adam's fans in 2010 and 2014 ... i.e.: Eight. Years. Ago. And. Four. Years. Ago.

The feelings of a Max fan from three years ago are just as valid, IMO.

Jason could teach a class to any sport on how to be a gracious supportive competitor. When he held up that get well Yuzuru sign at nhk...come on! Love to see him sending love to his teammates

I was responding to karne's post from the previous page:

I can't believe that this time tomorrow, Adam will likely have an Olympic medal, and Max won't even have got to go.

I assumed karne was referring here to Max's two disappointments. I figured anyone interested in the conversation would have read the previous posts. It didn't seem necessary to spell out that I knew Max has tried twice, just as Adam had.

I had seen the previous conversation before I posted earlier.

And I still don't understand what the point of your BTW is/was or what it has to do with the preceding conversation.

I did/do not get the impression that karne's post had anything to do with the number of Max's OWG disappointments. YMMV.

(That said, I will not prolong this discussion further.)

Team USA on CNN right now.....Featured Adam and Mirai as helping to lift the team to a Bronze Medal.

I think that's sweet, but if that is how they are presenting it, also a tad misleading. All of Team USA "lifted" Team USA to bronze. Anyway, go Team!

And Jason is of course also too sweet. I think in his absence Alexa Knierim took over the role as team cheerleader;)

I rephrased my post as they were very much about the team more than themselves.

We might be taking Bradie and the Shibs a bit for granted, because they did absolutely what was needed and expected. Encouragingly, it seems like the changes the Shibs made to their free dance turned it into a hit with the live audience.

Personally, my Team USA highlights were the Knierims' short program, and then Adam, but most of all Mirai. She joined the inspiring Bychenko and Marchei/Hotarek personal best club.

I was so proud of Mirai. What a personal triumph.

Also, Bradie earned a personal best, too, and that is remarkable - and in her own way, an answer to those who wondered if her consistency would hold up under Olympic pressure.

I have not been one to hold back from criticizing Adam, or any skater really, where I think they cross the line:biggrin:

But “I need Xanax and a drink” was just plain funny. Poor Adam, pretty soon they’ll be following him to the bathroom too....

Then again, this is from someone who thinks that Jason Kelce just gave The.Most.Epic.Sports speech ever in the Eagles victory parade, with the f bomb flying every ten seconds.:agree: But it was totally appropriate and in context. And Adam was waaaaay milder than that....

I get that he was trying to be funny but, that's the kind of thing you say to your friends off camera. They all know you're joking but, not everyone has the same sense of humor. Hopefully, he won't be so flippant next interview.

That last bit cannot be underestimated! I think all of our athletes did their part and EVERY SINGLE ONE of them earned this team bronze medal. It's interesting that USA didn't win even one of the team segments. So it truly was a team effort. They all deserve to be congratulated. (And it was a little scary there for awhile, with Italy nipping at US heels.)

No one skater/pair's performance affected the team's medal standing.

(The only single person that could have changed things was Kolyada, who had the ability to beat Chan in both the short and free, and would have earned OAR the gold if he had)
