2018 Olympic Season: Men's Figure Skating

Just one small thing: Isn't that a counter instead of a rocker that Yuzu does right after the Choctaw...?

At first sight i thought also the same. Then I asked to the people of the team and they showed me a fancam from another angle where it seems in a clearer way a rocker.

Lol Yuzu skated for about 15 minutes, jumped a couple singles and then closed out with a 3a and a bow. Peak trolling. Love it.

LOL that really is hilarious. Yuzu you little kidder you!

He showed up with his new tissue box cover.

But OMG you mean...Pooh is no more?! This is a travesty! Pooh is an insitution at skating now! I haven't felt so betrayed since Milos Roanoic the tennis player stopped wearing his signature sleeve.

The real headliner of the Olympic games TBH. I hope the US media doesn't have a stroke over it.....cause if they think he's killing the sport with his pooh tissue box, can't imagine what they'd think seeing his shortcake tissue box. Maybe the audience will be so shocked/horrified they'll leave mid event to protest

Double whammy - underneath that shortcake cover is actually a disney pooh tissue box. :drama: This sport is DOOMED.

Love your avatar.

I do not agree with this strategy. I think you need practice on the actual skating surface to do your best. Look how better Chan did in long with more practice on the ice. And Uno has not had a perfect skate the entire season. The 4flip was botched and he said he almost lost it on 4toetriple. I think this is a bad move but still hope for the best.

Sport may be doomed but a windfall for worldwide Winnie the Pooh merchandise peddlers.

In that case practice time would be extremely limited. The main rink is used as the main rink for short track speed skating too. And the practice rink has to be reserved for the Pairs that is happening very soon. Shoma did not do the long so its hard to compare his performance to Patrick's. What we can compare is that Shoma did a far better Short Program than Patrick, so whatever he is doing, is good.

He is not the only one to leave Gangneung, Canada is also going to Seoul iirc. The US team is going to ChunCheon, and the OAR team is going to Japan to get more rink time. As long as they come back and make the main rink practice it is fine to do so. :) We all hope for the best for everyone, but a lack of practice is not making them at their best. :)

I don't understand how another angle would change what it looks like, since it's about the direction he turns while executing the turn, and that's not gonna change whichever way you're looking at it...
But since you got me curious, I looked up a fancam version of said video, and as I suspected, it didn't make any difference and still looks like a counter. :confused2:

Huh? I looked for the fancam and drew the turn down on paper and it does look like a rocker to me.

This is the one event that for me isn't a nail-biter, mostly because I count at least six podium contenders who could make it: Hanyu, Fernandez, Jin, Kolyada, Chen, and Uno. Add Chan into the mix if he shows up and brings it all together into a great skate, and that's a heck of a lot of combination of placements and medalists. (I nominate Mathman to calculate the probabilities and possible outcomes!) So I'm guessing it'll be as random as getting one of those prizes in a box of cereal, or as Tom Hanks said in Forrest Gump, "you never know what you're gonna get ..."

Hanyu cleanly landed five quads in the practice session ahead of men's short and he is confident that he will win the gold medal, if he can skate both programs cleanly.

 Stating the obvious there, I think everyone is aware that he's pretty much untouchable if clean... his PCS and GOEs are so high!
Even a non-clean Hanyu is still quite the threat to all the other competitors, so... ;)

Sorry for dragging this on , but...
we are talking about this sequence of steps, right?

When on the FI curve, Yuzu turns against the direction of the curve he's on, to get on a BI curve, making this a counter (unless I've been severely misinformed the whole time...).

That BO choctaw - FI counter is a fairly common sequence that I see all the time:

These to me are all counters and what Yuzu does looks the same to me.

A FI rocker would look like the first turn in these clusters of turns:

In what universe is Kolyada a podium contender? Have you seen him lately at all?

My ideal podium would consist of 4 men, but since that won't be happening any time soon, I must eliminate the least-likely to medal with his recent performances: Patrick :sad21:

So that leaves me with: Yuzuru, Javier, & Boyang. Any order on the podium would have me over the moon.

Sorry Shoma & Nathan. Still love you both ;)

SB of the final group in the SP (dang this group is gonna be crazy)

25 HANYU Yuzuru - 112.72 (WR)
26 CHEN Nathan - 104.12
27 KOLYADA Mikhail - 103.13
28 UNO Shoma - 104.87
29 FERNANDEZ Javier - 107.86
30 JIN Boyang - 100.17

If all six skaters in the final group achieve 100 and above in the SP, the rink ice monster dies for doing a bad job at eating quads at the Olympics.

How many quads (out of 12 in the final group) will the rink ice monster be able to eat?

The best skating order for Yuzuru is to skate after Chen because he will be angry and motivate.

I'am so sorry if this has been posted, but anyone know the based value of each skater layout?
