Evgenia Tarasova & Vladimir Morozov

I know. I still find it surprising that they're not training with her. I mean, they're the Russian #1, what are you waiting for? And they're so suited for it too, their lines are just to die for. I can't believe that the Russian fed greenlit the free skate knowing it's not their strongest style and that it's Olympic season. They deserve so much better than what they got

I am really wanting Mozer and and moskvina to collaborate to make zhenya and volodya the best they can be. Because I know they can.

I believe these two started training with szolkowy quite early on and their candyman program might have been influenced by him, I mean he DID do candyman once upon a time with Aljona... perhaps. So I am sorry robin, but I’d rather see you work with younger teams to establish their style and train them to be contemporary than trying to change a team already brought up by the Russian system.
See Stanislav morozov and Mozer worked with Max and Tanya and they were top notch, both coaches were Eastern European style, Slavic old Soviet kind (NOT referring to politics)

So waiting....
for moskvina and Mozer collaboration
That can be my birthday present ..., I don’t want anything else

You know what would be the best, going to moskvina for choreography and skating style sessions a few times a month while mastering technical stuff with Nina would be dream come true

Just these things, no costume change like Zabijako and Enbert or kavaguti and smirnov and no more candyman stuff, no more contemporary pop songs like what robin did with Aljona

And may be the fact that robin skated with Aljona for so long made him develop a style that is more contemporary and maybe it disturbed tarasova and morozov’s russian foundation? I don’t know, just a thought

I'm so bummed for T/M and I feel awful about how many people are happy they didn't podium because of their FP.

Hearing how Evgenia started crying when she realised has made me cry too and now I feel like we'll never see them trying anything new.

And worst of all the haters will still be there calling them "bland and boring" and just "playing it safe".

Evgenia said she and Vladimir like the Candyman program and I do too it's fun!

I'm just scared we'll never see anything fun from them again.

(Not to say I'm not super happy for all the medallists especially Aliona and Bruno)

When Evgenia started crying, my heart just broke... hope they will continue their career and win that olympic medal!

I am a huge fan of T/M, and absolutely am in love with their SP - it plays to all their strengths and honors the great tradition of Russian pairs skating.

That being said, they really need to stop doing programs like Candyman, and having horrible costumes. I think even if they had skated well, the judges would have been reluctant to reward that program, it's just dreadful, and they do not bring the energy to it that is required to make it work. The SP last season was also fun, but they were able to sustain the energy of it for the duration of the short program time but doing this in a free, they are just not up to it and most importantly, IT IS NOT THEIR STYLE. Also, we saw with their commanding performance in the short, that THAT is their style. They need to embrace it and not try to do something that does not suit them, no matter how much they like it. Someone needs to talk sense to them.

I kind of wish they started looking outside of Russia, at least for choreography. I think Julie Marcotte could be a good choice.

*Pitiful voice* But I like Candyman and their costumes... (In all honesty though I think I got so upset over at the main thread because all this dissing of Candyman and the costume almost feels personal. I mean if it's as horrible as most people say and think it is, what does it say about me and my taste?!!)

I'm glad to hear that people do enjoy their SP, as I do (even with the rather odd ending!) seeing as I distinctly recall a lot of comments when T/M first started their senior careers as being "ho-hum, another boring classical style Russian pair, can't they do anything else?"

Also I see they've been invited to do the Gala along with the other top four pairs (and Ryom/Kim!) so there's that to look forward to.

I also hope that Zhenya doesn't feel nearly as bad after her crying as I do...I swear, I'm allergic to my own tears or something, I wasn't even full-on sobbing or anything and I still ended up with burning eyes and an all-mighty headache (Crying makes you feel better my butt!)

Don't worry about it, anonymoose! We all like something that "no one" else does.;) For example, I quite liked T/M's (thankfully instrumental) Hello. So, there you go.:)

I think they should do something epic in scope - powerful in a perhaps somewhat subdued style, not something too flashy and strong. Something like this I think would suit them:

Something with drive & momentum.

I'm so bummed for T/M and I feel awful about how many people are happy they didn't podium because of their FP.

I know many awful things were written here and on other social media (and I find this dreadful) but I think that people's happiness doesn't come exactly because they didn't win but that the judges didn't go crazy with the points due to the mistakes. I remember last year at Euros (maybe I'm mistaken though) they got their spins in the short totally wrong, yet this wasn't recognizable in the points, even the Eurosport commentators found this very bizarre.

And lets face it - last night there were 3 supreme performances, each of them getting the Olympic moment and giving the crowd chills. Even if T/M had skated Candyman clean, it wouldn't have reached the same impact. It just wasn't that kind of a programme choreographically wise. I never had problems with the lyrics or so, tried all season long to enjoy somehow the performance but at the Olympics it really made me feel uncomfortable, especially the Oh lala - part. It felt cheap in comparison to the other superior programmes from other competitors.

And worst of all the haters will still be there calling them "bland and boring" and just "playing it safe".

Well, with this FS they were anything but playing it safe - from the very beginning it was very controversial. And I know that it is very important for the skaters to enjoy themselves and to like what they are bringing on the ice, but I never saw a true enjoyment doing Candyman. Also, so many people were giving them warning signs and comments that this FS won't work, yet they just ignored and didn't acknowledge that. This really shows how important the coaching staff is, to be adequate and do the best for their skaters. I hope they make some changes for the future, it is too bad to waste those 2 people's talent.

Despite everything I want to express my respect towards Evgenia and Vladimir. Technically they are supreme and I believe that with good choreo they can also be very expressive and their skills could shine even more. I don't find them bland and boring, they just haven't found their true style yet. In my opinion, if they want to keep the programmes that require to be fun, fast and smiley suit, then they better use them for the SP because in the shorter time period they manage to stay in character - examples last years SP and my all time favourite, the Riverdance one. Yet the FS is far more challenging, they have to concentrate on the elements, also cope with nerves and it is really difficult to still be thinking on giving the proper expressions. I wish them a good recovery, I hope they cope with the disappointment and work on their weak spots in order to become really great.

Totally!! They don't necessary need typical classic music, just something with a little bit of drama and mysteriousness because they tend to skate very serious and it will suit them. :agree:

Their SP (CBC 1080p, but edited down to only their performance and the end of their kiss & cry): https://streamable.com/a0z02

I don't have their LP because the CBC Sports YouTube channel didn't upload it.

This too - I'm browsing, so just listened to it:

Or, how about Across the Stars:

(It boggles my mind, anyway, that no one is skating to this... )

ETA - Or this:

Your selection of music is great!!!! I'm also waiting for THAT pair who will dare to do my Star Wars favorite Love Theme... it's like common perfect epic figure skating music right there...

4th place is never fun, but I'm really happy about the fight they put up! They will bounce back and keep skating for many years; this is just the beginning! I really hope they continue to grow artistically; they have everything it takes to be the same level as Gordeeva/Grinkov or Berezh/Sikh.

Interesting song choices!

For some reason though I feel like because they're serious looking people, T/M benefit from music that's more upbeat if that makes sense? I totally loved their SP and the FS last year and the Lord of the Dance is brilliant too! But their FS in the 2016 season despite the lovely costumes seemed...too heavy for me? The music seemed to pull them down rather than lift them up.

But maybe I've got crazy taste of something LOL! Or maybe because they were only just starting out as Seniors their 2016 FS just seemed too much, I do enjoy their SP this year which has srs bsns music, but I'm not sure I would if it went for longer!

Perhaps its a good thing I'm not a cheorographer

I was just over at the Gala thread and there's some questions about whether T/M will be there since Nina Mozer is heading home soon, but then you can get penalised for not attending a Gala right? I hope they'll participate though and have a good time!

The 2016 - was that the Chopin one? I think the problem with that was that it didn't really have a direction - no momentum, nor drive. I don't think any "serious music" would suit them just because it is "serious music". The SP last year also had momentum and drive. This year's FP did not. It just wasn't "going" anywhere. Apart from the particular music selections - which I didn't like, but that's just a question of taste - the problem was that it felt like random pieces of music stuck together, without any build or purpose. If you were browsing different music pieces on Youtube and listened to a little bit of this, and then a little bit of that, you'd get much the same effect.

Vaytsekhovskaya's interview with Tarasova/Morozov

Interview translated to English by TAHbKA on FSU.

So much for the theory that Robin has anything to do with their music/program choices. That's all Mozer :p Now that she may be retiring, we may get some decent LP :yahoo:

EV: Can you measure what is the input of the tree coaches: Mozer, Hekalo and Szelkowy in your results?
VM: First of all it's of course, Nina Mikhailovna. She works with us, decides which programmes we'll skate, which elements we'll put and decides on the working plan. Robin and Hekalo are more about the technical details. Szelkowy is an ex pairs skaters and he didn't retire that long ago. He taught me so many professional things I would never come up with myself.

EV: For example
VM: He helped me a lot with the throws. Before he joined the team our throw jumps were always double footed. Now Evgenia lands them perfectly. He also helped us with the lifts.
