Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

Their hmm... main rivals (lets hope not anymore) has always such "chemistry" like now? No. When they were younger , with programs like Mahler , The Umbrellas of Cherbourg , Funny Face or even Chin chin etc they didnt behave like in Prince or Moulin Rouge. They are older, they express sexuality diffrent then 5, 6 years ago.

So I dont why p-c haters compare MS with MR . MAybe they should compare Funny Face with MR

If you want to know other people's thoughts on their 'connection or chemistry' when G & G dance together, just take note of the comments of non-fans (i.e., those who hardly know anything about G & G) in this video that garnered 4 million views already. Ed Sheeran's song 'Perfect' was superimposed on G & G's short dance (Masquerade Waltz) in 2016 in this viral video. The comments are all positive and in awe of their skating, but here are just some that specifically said something about their 'connection or chemistry':

"Wow, part of their charm is their chemistry."

"These are the most in tuned perfect skaters I have seen in years... they make me cry when I watch this performance... i can't stop watching how this is the way couples should be in life throughout.... I love this video, LOVE there connection...."

"They are awesome and have a great chemistry. I can't believe she's half Greek, but her facial characteristics proved it, mediterranean beauty... ♥"

"I Love this Dance so much! The Song is so beautiful and they are so cute together ❤"

"LOVE this song; one of my favorites. The dancing is so beautiful. They look like they're in love. Gave me chills. Standing Ovation! BRAVO!!! Much applause!!! <3 How can anyone give this thumbs down unless they're deaf & blind & hit the wrong thumb. They skate together like a real couple"

"Are they married? Cause they look in love and that's cute, they look so perfect together 😍😍 love it"

"Are they a couple ?"

"The most beautiful presentation I've ever seen in my life. The connection between these two is incredible"

"I love them! i don't know so much about ice dancing but those two i could watch forever, they are so beautiful and this song fits so perfectly, it's amazing! Can anybody tell me if they are a couple in real life?"

But this is very unique this tenderness, I love it. It's not destined to be sexualized but very sensual, it's not a gesture where you go "OMG look what they did !", but more like "woaaa...".
Sometimes they say when they perform that they are so connected, almost as if it's both of them and no one else, I guess that makes the difference between showing the audience and almost living it.
That also makes me think when commentators say that they are one on the ice, they skate like one entity, not a team of 2 people, not one presenting the other, but that it's hard to pick them up.

It is a connection that is deep and transcendent, utterly intimate, personal, and private, and more importantly -- organic, genuine, and honest. It is not one that invites voyeurism and says 'look at how we are so in love and so sensual together'. Neither is it intent on manipulating the audience's thoughts and feelings of them. I am reminded once again of Gia Kourlas' New York Times article when she said that 'they skate as if they are in their own world': "When I watch them, my mind goes to a Jerome Robbins quote about “Dances at a Gathering,” his sublime 1969 ensemble ballet. “You should never dance anything for the audience,” he said. “It ruins it if you do. You should dance only to each other. As if the audience weren’t there. It’s very hard.”

You obviously absolutely misunderstood what BlueCat28 said. He/she did not deny Gabriella and Guillaume's chemistry, but just basically said that V/M some years ago when they were the age of G/G had a different kind of chemistry than what they have now, that is, the kind of chemistry performing dancers/ice dancers have/show changes with years when they mature. Probably you find it hard to imagine it now, but it's very possible that Gabriella and Guillaume will have and show a different kind of connection and chemistry (than they have now) in some years as well. That doesn't mean that it will be like V/M's in their recent programs/performances.

Oh, I do fully agree and understand BlueCat28's comment about G & G's chemistry. I was merely following a thread of conversation on the topic that has been going on for the past day or so. My mistake was in following up the thread by directly quoting BlueCat28's post (which makes it appear as if I disagreed with the comment). I should have created a separate post, or if I quoted, I should have first acknowledged and expressed agreement with BlueCat28's comment. In fact, BlueCat28's comment is in line with a post that I had many days ago addressing the circulating criticism of G & G's 'versatility'. In many ways, I argued that when we ignore the fact that V/M had almost 15 years of experience on the senior level and that G/G only had 5 years, it is unfair to compare V/M and G/G on 'versatility'. V/M had many more opportunities to develop and display versatility given the longer time they've been on the senior level. The two teams are simply on different developmental stages in their careers. In the same vein, it is unfair to compare the two teams on connection and chemistry. Expression of connection and chemistry will also certainly differ across stages of career development as BlueCat28 has stated. Growth and change in expression also occur in other disciplines. Since I play classical piano, I avidly watch piano competitions and follow pianists in their careers, and notice the same in this field. I look forward to see how G/G will change and grow as well! The transcendent quality of their performance and connection even now is already mind-blowing to me! So, yes, I do fully agree with BlueCat28's comment. :-)

I just realized I booked a ballet on the 24th of March and won't be able to catch the last flight at Worlds  I'm so pissed off, I've managed to watch every single of their performance live this year and won't be able to catch their last one. Plus it's not like you can check your cell phone discreetly to know the score while watching ballet. The only way I could see them is if they skate first of the last group I think which I do not wish for them. I'd like them to skate last. You will have to send good vibes for me.

I watched The Duchesnay's 1988 Tango, that was choreographed by Christopher Dean. The audience keeps applauding for these choreographic moments. It had everything and was very very funny.
I don't know where Gaby & Guillaume will do for their Tango SD next year, I might be hoping to see Dean's input. He knows how to make an audience clap at the choreography even when it's simple.
We don't really see that since IJS, do we ? I feel like the audience needs something bigger to be impressed. Big moves, big lifts, big music... I (personnally) prefer the true charm of Dance. It stands the test of time I guess.

It's exactly what won V/M the title. They are the epitome of the North American style for ice dance: athletic and flashy: sex and rock'n roll in a way. The amusing part is that many people think that they are revolutionary in their style. On which planet, I wonder, ... Lala land? I think that Sam Chouinard, who us very talented in his own right, concocted exactly the right mix for the occasion.
By all admiration for their skill, I totally abhor the marketing machine and mindset behind them. Very useful to tailor a post-skating career but it has engendered a whole lot of horrifying bad vibes for the whole field. I don't know who V and M are as persons but their idolization is totally off-putting. I admire G/G for exactly the opposite qualities. I hope that they don't lose their true selves in this mad house!

It's the North American style, but I'd say for example that Hubbell/Donohue are a bit less like that style too while being North American. Especially in their FD this year. No crazy music (not OTT or weird, but powerful), it's continuous, it's about dancing and connection, there are no acrobatics unaesthetically pleasing, the skating is put foward (and those skills !). Both P/C and H/D have the FDs that everyone has been raving about all year, yet at this particular competition, the crowd did not pay too much attention in comparaison to the multiple standing ovations both teams have received all year. Same for Anna&Luca who have the audience usually jumping in applause like an automatic mode, here not really.
The Olympic crowd really seems different. I felt like the applause was proportionnal to the size of your fanbase, I was a bit disappointed.
I want redemption in Milano for those 3 teams though

It's seems to me that the numbers of canadians being here in PyeongChang were way more important than french or italian preople. For french people, having the money to go to the olympic in korea was not accessible for everybody. The delegation of the french olympian team in term of numbers is nothing to the canadians or usa team. And you know how the support in term of numbers and the crowd in the ice rink was dominated by the canadian and may be part of the korean who knew Tessa and scott from tour after sotchi. Ice skating is not a popular sport in Korea, and I doubt that a lot of korean know about a lot of european skaters.

and if you are looking at the Junior World Championships Free Dance, you have similar experience !!!

Probably the Vancouver/Sochi cycle style. Or the Zueva/Shibilband style.

Can someone translate Tatiana Tarasova's commentary at the end of the G & G FD ? Just by his intonation, we feel an emotional shock that wins. His tone is that of a stunned person, she speaks softly, in a voice totally captivated by the previous minutes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp-5eX5_I9s&app=desktop

G: Grishin.
T: Tarasova.
TML: me :-).

From the beginning:

Introduction:
G: Let us enjoy those who fight for the gold medal in the olympic games.
2-time world champions, 3-time european champions and holders of the world record for this free dance.
A wonderful variant of Beethoven's sonata, and second for now after the Short Dance.

After the FD:
T: Incredible.
No Words.
What didn't I reminisce about in this program? That which I forgot a long time ago.
Thank you very much. Art in its purest form.
With difficult elements of figure skating which you don't see.
You don't see that they learned it, that it was choreographed, that it was learnt,
that's its very hard technically. You don't know anything about that. You don't see that.
2 People who live in this music, this great music.
It's mind-boggling. What a performance, what a program.
How creative are the Canadian coaches and their own trainer, a Frenchman.
What a gorgeous girl.
You know he is....
G: Gabriella and Guillaume...
T: They are of course....
G: revelation.
T: revelation, but there's nothing similar to the beginning of the season, when it (the dance) was invincible in my opinion.
But now, now it an entirely different matter.
This spin, my god, it's how life spins and spirals, and you don't understand where you are (TML: how life spins and takes you to unexpected places).
[[correction to the line above: This spin, my god, it's how life spins, twists and twirls you until you don't know what happens to you]]
What a great program.

You know what i'm angry about: that katia (TML: Ekaterina Bobrova) has a great free dance, this whole season. Why do they (TML: Bobrova and Soloviev) need to have a B...(TML: wants to say bad, but changes to) a mediocre short dance and then...I think it's a big mistake by Sasha (TML: Alexander Zhulin), they could have changed it a hundred times. I asked them but they wouldn't listen.
After the score:
G: This has never happened before. A very high achievement, with a gigantic leap (TML: from previous competitors).
T: (TML: really emotional, yelling) Because you can't even watch it! You can't score this! You can only stand up and bow down! and thank them! This is out of this world! This is happiness!

Thantk you very much TryMeLater
"You can't score it" says Tarasova
I think the same ... In Milan, as well rid everyone of low terrestrial notations... Directly, 84 +124, everyone will be more relaxed and can give us the best of himself :cool14:
