They did have a post-nationals Junior Worlds Camp. I wonder if the results of the test skates gave clear indicators as to which skaters should be sent. That might make more sense if that's what happened.

Maybe there should a change in how BOW is used to choose skaters. If it's a situation where it's a bit of a wash as far as placement. For example in the Miner/Rippon situation was a wash. Niether could keep up with the tech firepower of the younger skaters. 10th was probably as good as it was gonna get. Miner had the skate of his life. In the Ashley/Karen case, I think a World medal within 2 years of the Olympics should have trumped all else. I'm still convinced that Karen was chosen to make a point to Ashley. I DON'T penalize Karen for that -- I feel bad for her, in fact. I hope she gets angry and turns in the performance of a lifetime as a result. In this situation they should wait and see. Flukes do happen, but not every surprise good result is a fluke. They should give them both a minor international and have that be the deciding factor. The catch 22 is that the only way the person learns to compete under pressure is to compete under pressure. The balance that needs to be struck, it seems to me, is the one between giving the benefit of the doubt and looking @ a person's history. Also, the flip of a surprise good result is a surprise bad result, but not every surprise bad result is a fluke. My point though is that BOW should be used as a tie breaker between 2 comparable skaters (and preferably only for the 3rd spot).
Starr replaced Ashley at 4CCs. I think she intends to be senior now.

I spelled all the JGP spots out in a thread in the Junior Worlds subforum. There's also a link in that thread to the JGP document which further explains how spots are awarded.
so ting is the only ray of light for the amercan ladies? I really hope american figure skating rinks can improve and produce some champhions again who can compete against the russian armada. without a stong american team the reputation for figure skating as whole will diminish..

Pooja Kalyan didn't have the technical minimum, I think.
Pooja did get the Junior TES minimums at the Bavarian Open in late January, after Nationals. She won the bronze in the Junior Ladies competition there, scoring 156.45, which would have placed her 11th at JW. And she did beat Selma IHR at the BO (Selma placed 14th at JW).
Her injury prevent her from doing 3Lz which is the required jump for juniors. If she trained it to early, she may have gotten injured again.
Last year they also had seven spots. It’s been that way for years we’ve always been the forth place country in ladies. Although we did come awfully close this time.

No, they had 1 spot in each of 7 events last year as well.
With Polina it's all about those two toe jumps. If she has those, she'll be in the hunt for a GP spot, if she doesn't, then she's not competitive as a senior.

I wouldn't give up on Bradie Tennell just yet. She needs some polish, but she's got a lot going for her.

Bradie is already twenty though. I hope I'm wrong, but it seems a little late for her to be improving in the areas she needs to improve in.
Why? She has solid skating basics, high-level spins and fully rotated jumps. She's musical. The main thing she seems to be lacking is interpretation and more graceful arms. Nathan Chen has visibly improved in similar areas from year to year. Carolina Kostner in her teens isn't nearly the artist that Kostner in her 20s became.
For that matter, Polina E. is a more artistic skater now than she was two years ago before her injury (shame about the jumps.)
If Bradie had access to top-level choreographers and costumes, wouldn't her PCS already be in better shape?
It seems to me that basic technique issues are harder to fix than ungraceful arms and inadequate expressiveness. And a good choreographer knows how to make a piece work for a skater--Julia Lipnitskaya was known as a not particularly expressive skater, but the Schindler's List piece used her reserve to great effect.

Bradie doesn't have much experience performing on the bigger stage yet, interacting with a large audience. I think those are areas in which she can improve with practice.
Of course, I already like her, so I'm biassed, but I honestly don't see how she's so terrible as some seem to make out, or that she would be incapable of improving.
ETA - She may have a somewhat awkward, gangly look at present, but I see potential for gracefulness in her. Again, she needs practice performing and refining and polishing her movements. Her age isn't all the story - her inexperience matters too.

Ting performed pretty darn well at JW. Best showing by a junior lady at JW in quite a while, it seems to be. Her placement wasn't stellar, but it's SUCH a stacked field, and she only had the one error across two programs. Would be nice if she can take this experience and capitalize on it on the JGP next year.

Would've been interesting to see how Hanna Harrell or Starr Andrews would have stacked up here.
Ting did extremely well, but Emmy was a bit of a disappointment and in her late teens still doesn't have a 3T or a 3-3...her performance and skating skills are wonderful but those don't win medals
