Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

Great post cocotaffy :agree:

We could speculate and everything for days, weeks, in the end they'll go where they'll feel it's better for them and they understand that the environment is what's best but that multiple Euopeans and World titles plus Olympic medals is not something to take for granted because they have so much more to learn, and such a margin of progression for the future.

And not everything is black or white guys. Let's take a minute and not act like this is the end of the world. It's worlds week !

S
t need this piece to slowly get back into "it" after her ordeal) the "Swing", I loved (I don't care that they were unsettled and made mistakes, the swing part of the SD was a gem (The blues part lacked something and I still don't know what...). T
!

In my opinion there was too much blues and not enough swing. The blues part seemed to go on a bit too long and then the swing just seemed to be tacked onto the end.I loved it though but I preferred the earlier version and costume. It had more character with Gabby's facial expressions and the lunge move that everyone thought was a mistake.

Wow, Guys ... when I read all these posts, starting with Icetigger's yesterday I get the impression that it is less about MFD that about the fear that G/G are not going to "diversify".
I do remind everybody that these skaters are literally pouring their lives into this. They should be allowed to cultivate what motivates them...They are still maturing as athletes and artists. I have no doubt, that G and G are very involved in what they do...
They are not going to make everybody happy and so what? If they are happy, so am I!
My guess for the coming seasons is that they are going to collaborate with a few people but that MF will still be part of the equation.

I’m surprised that my words could be read this way because I have no need of diversification for diversification’s sake or to answer the presume pressure of Didier or any crazy fan of acrobatic lifts. My point was : as artists and athletes they have to grow, this is how maturing, getting older goes, the way life goes. So, of course they must cultivate what motivates them. But as their trainer and main choreographer MFD should know them well enough to have already an idea of on which road they want to travel for this new olympic cycle, without forcing them into a V/M direction or cutting their dreams or inspiration. She should admire them just enough to dream for them a growing path which leaves any detractor speechless.
As Cocotaffy said this was very obvious how little she had to say about PC whose incredible talent and progression gave her the status as a trainer she has today. She was more concerned by the incident which prevented Smart/Diaz from going to OG than the incident which left PC no chance of winning the Olympic gold although she was partly responsible for the latter. It’s also true that she has to be prudent with what she can say in the context with this interlocutor. But, I´m just trying to express why I feel slighly unconfortable with her. I just wonder if she still appreciates their genuine talent or if the success of Gadbois has made her forget what she owes them to the point that, she is intimately convinced that it is only their 4 last years of training which have created what PC are today ( to push my thoughts to the extremes). Does she still really care about them?
And as everybody else here, I don’t see many choices for PC in case thy would like to leave. Where could they go to? There is much more than just MFD in Gadbois. Although Cocotaffy made a nice dream of a west European center.
I just hope that the feeling I have from outside, is totally biased by the admiration I have for PC. I hope they don’t feel the same, because they must begin this new cycle with total confidence in their team, even if they look outside for other competences like they did with Dean and the J Cirio. Can they trust MF and Pat’s loyalty or no longer? That’s what haunting me.

I agree with what you say about the apparent lack of vision for G/G for the coming season. She seems to have been steamrolled by how quickly they evolved.
My post was more a knee-jerk reaction to a series of posts analyzing MF's interview by Lease. I don't believe anything nefarious was/is going on. I do believe though that V/M 's arrival in Gadbois created an internal upheaval. They came in as stars and had already a long history with MF and P.
I think the school tried their best but it was clearly uncomfortable for MF whenever the two teams came head-to-head. You can see it clearly when you compare the kiss-and-cry scenes over the seasons. She became more guarded. I wouldn't have wanted to be in her shoes because there probably was a lot of scrutiny from both sides: French and Canadian Fed. Contrary to what it should be, the OG exacerbate the "nationalistic" behavior of many fans and commentators.
I am just sad that we all seem to wallow in dark musings instead of actually celebrating what G/G have achieved and what they are going to show us at worlds.

Have no idea. Everything I have written is speculative: I have no knowledge as to whether P/C are going to remain at Gadbois or leave.

I meant to say that if we are going to speculate, it will probabably be more plausible to keep an eye on Romain's move. I doubt they will move somewhere else without him.

I don't know if Kurt Browning is lying or not, but the wardrobe problem also happened in practice at Europeans. Same move, same issue, an old dress.

Yeah but it doesn't contradict what MFD said about sowing it before each practice, since it probabaly was meant to deal with a previously occurred problem. Anyway I just think too much has been read into an informal interview.

... Anyway I just think too much has been read into an informal interview.

Probably true but a good pretext to formalize our doubts ? Interrogations? Frustrations? Anxiety?
It shoudn’t be taken too seriously neither as MF bashing. Just pointing out there is a “ malaise” in PC fans ranks and maybe there is a reason why or may be not. Anyhow, I wonder if MFD shouldn’t think about her relationship towards each couples being trained in Gadbois and make things very clear for every partner as G and G probably expect things to go back to normal, as it was before VM return and I’m quite sure it won’t be how it used to be as Hubbell Donohue status meanwhile changed as well as Beaudry Sorensen one did. So there should be more to discuss than just what music for what program, 2 weeks after the Worlds, IMO.

Not holding my hopes up with the camera angle, judging from the ladies SP: too many random cuts and too much use of overhead camera.

I don't know if this practice video of their FD at the Olympics has been posted. Possibly taken by a Korean fan. Quite HD and zoomed-in.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1yUDkcex-E

I loved watching Gabby's blades in the circular step sequence here. Smooth turns and total control.
Have they talked specifically about choreographing their arm movements for the FD? Soft skipping touches and interesting criss-crossing patterns recur and fill the transitions. What were their thoughts behind these motifs?

Thanks Bcash for the link! They literally weave a spell with their arms movements and their bodies, always connected to each other and the music. It is breathtaking, seeing it up close!

Although I’m sure she’s very exhausted after the tension of the Olympics and wouldn't expect any tactics at this point (choice of music or style) I too am really perplexed. If she were really involved in their development, shouldn’t she be all making us feel that yes, she’s has a vision and a roadmap for them for the next Olympic cycle, and that it will not only take them to gold but really stretch them as artists and skaters. Wouldn’t one expect her to already know what aspects of their talent they should be concentrating on and developing now, thinking about how best to disarm and silence the criticisms that have been developing around them - lack of athleticism, repetitiveness, lyrical romanticism, inability to skate a story, etc. Couldn’t this be conveyed somehow non verbally as well as verbally?

Just to inject some sort of sanity into this discussion -- no, its unrealistic to think MFD has a vision and roadmap for the next Olympic, and even more unrealistic to think if she had one, that she'd announce it on TSL. The ones who should be announcing the vision are PC themselves, not their coach. But more importantly, PC are still in *this* season. The Olympic year is unlike any other in a quad, because it's the season where it's all about the present. Every other year is designed to build you to this season. This isn't the season where you start thinking about the next quad early on. Heck, if PC won, who knows if they'd even be competing for another quad? That's why you don't waste time on stuff like that. Your focus is 100% the Olympics, and then the Worlds after if you decide to go. Then you spend a month completely spent and exhausted. THEN you start thinking about what to do next. Read any skaters bio about the Olympics and you'll see they do this same thing. You just can't focus on the future until the Olympic season is over.

As for the dress debacle: I agree with those that say everyone is to blame for that one, not just the coaches. PC have been skating for what 12, 13 years? And Guillaume is himself a costume designer! They both have experience with costume malfunctions by this point in their career, and should know that if you have a dress that you have to get sewn into everytime, you arrange for back stops -- either an illusion strap across the back, or a back up dress. That dress had so many stones, to think it would hold with only two connection points was ridiculous. Part of me thinks they were so sure of winning that they lost the fear that motivates you to go the extra mile to make sure every single thing will work correctly.

But that is neither here nor there. The focus is now on the future. There is no doubt in my mind that they will receive WR for both SD and FD, as was the intent at the Olympics. Then the future. Whether they "diversify" is up to PC, but I do think Gadbois is a good place to be. They went into that Olys extremely well-trained, with an FD that broke a WR every time it was performed. Their mental coach, the dance/acting coach, and of course Romain all seem superb, so I don't see much to be gained if they leave. Especially as no other dance camp seems to have all these other pieces as well-integrated as Gadbois.

I agree. I don't quite see how this "omg MFD doesn't have a plan" complaint is accurate, fair, or frankly necessary, basing on one YouTube interview before the season even ends.

I am sure that the communicative joy and emotion of Vanessa and James will boost Gabriella and Guillaume.
What a pleasure also to see and hear an audience that communicates and reacts with couples; this is also what motivates G & G !

Agreed, Bcash. It also doesn't take account of the fact that she's a human being who, like every other human being including Gabi and Guillaume, needs time to rest and creatively recharge between one phase of work and the next. Give the woman a break. Literally!

The clips from practice are fantastic. That step sequence looks better every time I see it. Can't wait for tonight - I just hope the livestreams hold up!
