Alina Zagitova

Please stop theorizing Eteri that way. The fact that Alina is an Oly Champion and was trained well meant that they have a good relationship. Stop it pls

A combination of factors I think. Fatigue after the Olympics and pressure to dominate like Evgenia. I imagine the first fall must have come as a shock especially since Don Quixote has been her cleanest program. She's definitely a strong girl who can bounce back easily so I'm not worried.

Yes, both Eteri and Daniil were supportive as they should be... they know that it was a long, intense season. I hope that this will not affect her confidence, but make her stronger.
It would have been too good to be true, I mean winning everything and I think unhealthy for her, because a inner balance should be always maintained. And honestly I don't think she was ready for having only victories.

Agreed, 100%.

I didn't watch FS with TAT's commentary myself, but on russian forum there is info that TAT said Alina has grown up on 3 cm since Olympics. If true, that's a lot for such short period of time, I think.

Daniil's short comment ( my rough translation)
"We want to give our apologies to all fans, who supported Alina and our team. Let's not forget she is only 15 and it is her debut at WCh. Unfortunately, she was not able to handle her nerves. We don't fully understand why it happend. We'll analyze and we will work. She will become stronger. It is still some experience."

In less than a month she grew up 3 cm?

Can't handle her nerves? it is quite worrisome. I hope she will be ok. I hope that meltdown won't be remembered more than Olympics. Crazy, from heaven to hell. Poor Alina

So it's life... that's way you have to be always humble and balanced.
I don't think it was nerves. She just looked very tired. Maybe the fact that it was a long break between the morning practice session and the competition contributed to this.

Oh no, poor Alina, people expect her to be some kind of figure skating robot programmed for perfection but she is just a girl. Hopefully she will take motivation from this, rest and recover, come back stronger than ever. :ghug:

A very disappointing ending to what was a stellar debut season. I hope she can put it behind her (and that her team is supportive).

that is why i am suprised they used such words and said that she can't handle nerves. It is just more fuel for haters. Much better would look: she was tired or something like that.

Poor sweetheart. All these rallies/conferences/meetings must have disrupted her trainings and influenced her sport shape. I think she felt it and it lowered her self-confidence as a result. Unfortunately it seems Alina is still prone to big stress. She is not as mentally strong as Evgenia. BTW I have a feeling Alina really lacked the presence of her "older sister". This season she was the best when Evgenia was with her...
Anyway this season was obviously fantastic for Alina and I'm sure today's failure will only make her stronger.

I don't really buy Tarasova's assertion that she's had a growth spurt, or that it's something that meaningfully impacted today's performance. She was landing everything in practice and was fine in the warm-up.

I'm more inclined to call this week a case of mental exhaustion. Imagine being at your first Olympics with the training mate you've idolized, shattering her World record in the short, and winning gold overall. The reality is she put down peak performances at the three competitions she HAD to: Russian Nationals, Europeans, and the Olympics. It definitely stinks she couldn't have pulled out one last performance, especially given how Kostner ended up skating, but I highly doubt people will remember this if she kicks off next season back in form.

people have tendency to remember surprising things, we can agree that before worlds, we all were sure that gold is going to Alina. Now every fail and people will think, yep she has weak mentality. I hope they have good psychologist.

She never should have been there. I am disappointed for her but no one else. She had the best debut season ever Olympic champion European champion Russian national champion and Grand Prix Champion as a 15 year old girl skating against adults. she went to Worlds because her country needed her there. If Alina Zagitova never wins another competition she's had an incredible career. But I expect her to come back strong next season and build off what she did this season. She should be very wise about picking and choosing what events she wants to partake in and she should probably limit them. Definitely don't overdo the exhibitions.

I am sorry she's growing a few centimeters to although I want her to grow taller it may have an effect on her skating until she stops growing. But what I remember most this year is what a Class Act this young lady Alina is what a great performer she was and a great representation for her nation and fans. She has so much to be happy about and positive about.

The world championships the year of the Olympics is less important to me and say that European championships. Once Alina won that European championships and beat Medvedeva giving her her first loss in over 2 years she basically won the Olympics then too.

hope she gets some rest this off season lets her body rest and grow she's going to add a few more centimeters and a few more pounds. But honestly I just wish she did not go to this world championship. Something was not right. And now she's been damaged mentally but I believe she has the courage and toughness the bounce back from it. Congrats to Alina on her historic record setting season. :) In my eyes nothing that happened today in the free program damages any of the great and incredible thing she did this year. I can't wait to see her skate in the fall and next year at Russian Nationals against Zhenya and Alena in particular.

She went at the Worlds because she wanted and I think it was the right decision. Even if she didn't win, it was a learning and a life experience that will help her in the future.

Nothing can take away her achievements but it sure was hard to see it end like this for her. I read this quote from Brian Orser and I thought of Alina and I really hope she has someone like this on her team and in her life.

"Medals have never been a paramount task for me. I put all my knowledge in each of these athletes, but first of all I tried to keep them healthy people, that figure skating gave them pleasure. Only then a person can love training. In the same way, I consider my coaching responsibility all that happens to my athlete after he left sport. So that he does not leave the ice completely devastated, with the thought that all the invested efforts went to dust, if suddenly it was not possible to win this or that medal." ~ Brian Orser

she's Olympic champion she handled the pressure there which was a million times greater then today the world championship which means very little the year of the Olympics in comparison to being Olympic champion which Alina zagitova is deservedly. I'm sorry she had a bad day but what happened today does not compare to all the great thing she did this season.

Also let's be honest not having a
Evgenia there to be the leader and a focal point of Russian ladies figure skating put a greater onus and pressure on Alina and she was not ready for it. She is only 15 she is okay. This should not be a big deal to her career.

I hope she gets to go on a real vacation and play with her Akita dog other pets and hang out with some friends. she does need some time away from figure skating and I hope her parents make sure that happens.

I agree with you but I just wish she didn't go to Worlds this year because of a possible Olympic hangover and I think that was apparent. but yes it was certainly a learning and life experience and I hope it helps her in the future.
