You don't know that either. That she is "only doing logistic work" is also an assumption on your part.

first of all, I do use "as for as I know", which means it is my personally opinion, I do have extra info, well this is not important. the important part is nobody is certain what role Nathan's mom is playing in his training, thus we cannot jump on Nathan's mom just because Raf's Russian interview's one-side story.

and, I will say it again, from all the info I can gather Nathan's mom is mostly doing logistic work in Nathan's figure skating.

I agree with not jumping to conclusion, and I have not. But you seem to have already jumped to the worst conclusion about Raf and his character.

Salchow is known to be Nathan's weakest quad and it's also well known and obvious he's more of a toe jumper than an edge jumper. We didn't really need Raf to tell us this to see that his salchow gets the lowest height of all his quads and has been the least consistent quad in the past two seasons. I know you don't like Raf, but there's really no reason to find fault in every single line he says or think that there's an ulterior motive behind every sentence.

as for Nathan's 4S, I am just stating a fact, his 4S's successful rate is not particular worse than all his other jumps as it showed in his 2018 worlds OPs. thus Raf's claim his 4S is 80% and all other jumps are 100% is questionable. Raf does not have much accountability as we discussed here at least in my mind. he often changes/contradicts his comments based on different scenarios.

as for whether I am intentional picking on Raf, well, I just put my opinion out there, so people can see as well as judge/critic or defend Raf like you do here.

like I said, I put my opinions out there, readers can see it, evaluate it and have their individual opinions. If you think that I jumped to the worst conclusion about Raf, it is your opinion. I have no problem with that.

To me, it sounds like Raf was just trying to save face when Zueva was trying to "steal" Nathan away and tried to make a public coaching change. Though I don't know if Nathan ever intended to leave Raf for good, or if he just stayed longer because he enjoyed it. Anyway, I think Raf got his pride hurt and tried to act like Nathan had make amends to come back and lashed out at him with false accustations of him being difficult. He's childish for an old man. Not sure I think either one, Raf or Zueva, come across that well fighting over a 17 year old kid. Though I haven't ever read her side of the story.

He also recently said Ashley was lazy and that's why she didn't make the Oly's so I guess she's not the favorite pupil anymore obviously.
When did he say that? If I remember correctly, Raf very specifically said to the effect that Nathan should not be blamed for the awkward situation (between Raf, Marina and Nathan) that was created because he was still just a kid who single-mindedly wanted to skate and win, and it was the adults' responsbility to make sure there was adequate communication bewteen the two sides and respect be maintained between coaches.

I think Raf was referring the overall jump quality, maturity and Nathan's confidence level. OP practice success rate is not the best indicator here. It's not even the best indicator for competition result.

Why can’t we also see his warmup videos without paying an arm and leg for cables? Thank goodness there are generous fans out there :)

Sadly the hotspot shield app didn’t work for me, it wouldn’t let me change server location without signing up with their premium packages. Guess I’ll have to wait to travel to Asia to watch good Nathan Worlds. Argh

Update: Question - at the bottom right of each post has three icons, is the very right on to like a post? I’ve been using it as that.

Towards the bottom of this interview, and he threw in a comparison with Ashley and Adam for good measure.
Okay, I thought the post I was replying to was saying Raf blamed the Zueva situation on Nathan and accused him of causing difficulty. But in the interview you posted, I don't see what's wrong with saying Nathan's difficult in this particular context. We've heard on multiple occasions that Nathan can be stubborn and headstrong. And I don't think Raf is ONLY saying it because Nathan left him or that his pride is hurt. Russians tend to give very blunt interviews to Russian media. Raf calling a student "a little difficult" is nothing outrageous. Sounds like how an elderly person would talk about his teenage mentee/kid.

you will automatically quote all the posts you have pressed that button.

Good to know, no wonder I had to remove some context when I post, thanks! Wish they had a like button...

I don't remember. Maybe from him, maybe some other observers as well. But the point is, he is not just saying this "because his pride is hurt". He could be saying this in any given interview. And I think as fans of Nathan, it's PRETTY obvious to most he is stubborn, and I can completely see how he's not the best at communicating his emotions and thoughts, which is what I think Raf meant here. And there's no way this said by a coach qualifies as some sort of insult of badmouthing toward Nathan like it's being implied here. I think it's blown out of proportion here and used unnecessarily as an attack toward Raf's character.

This is so TRUE. I usually just came here as a visitor, not replying or posting anything. Having watched Nathan for many years, I don't think Raf is the person to blame. His words are always blunt and straightforward, and "a little difficult" is just a truth about this 18-year-old.

^In fact, I'd argue that being "a little difficult" is a common trait with a lot of great athletes.

as we discussed in details here, it seems in all cases, Raf will have a way/excuse to blame the other party including Nathan but not only Nathan.

I appreciate bluntness in interviews. I like bloody truth.

but bluntness does not equal to always have a way/excuse to blame the other party(which is lack of acountability)

What do you think as an excuse? Obviously the things Raf talked about Nathan, Ashley or Adam are facts.

I wonder how do you known or come to a conclusion that "a little difficult" is just a truth about this 18-year-old (Nathan).
