Nathan Chen

if Raf helped other male skaters master quads (not just Nathan), if he does, I will give him credits for the rare ability to train quads.

Nathan is a special talent. Do you know any other male skaters mastered quads or improved their quads under Raf's instruction.

Ponsart, who just blew his PB out of the water at Worlds. His previous PB was around 200, but he just scored 229. And he's 25yo and 6ft tall.

what quad is him doing? And I don't quite know about his skating. so I cannot judge.

Also, I heard Marin Honda will go to Raf to train full time, I guess she is going for Raf's jump tech prowess.
I will wait and see how Marin's jump will progress in the future.
Mariah Bell came to Raf specifically to improve his jumps, I noticed the change in her jump tech, is it better now, I don't kr.
Also according to Dave Lease, Jenny Kirk think that Raf ruined Michelle Kwan's lutz.
Also, IIRC Hannah Miller went to Raf specifically for his jump tech ability, seems did not work out
Vivian Le, one of the most promising junior lady with that explosive lutz, went to Raf after her junior success, now completely vanished...
Raf also has some talented youngsters training under him since younger age (like Nathan), I will wait and see how will they turn out in the future.

these are all just opinions and perspectives.

Marin Honda is going to Raf?! I recall she has some foot problems that may affect her jumps.
I did hear that Vivien Le lost her jumps for whatever reason.

that is what I heard, Marin will train with Raf this summer full time. So she could train with Nathan, expecting lots of new ships:biggrin:
Vivien Le is very promising and then she went to Raf for that extra push of famous coach... I heard she is injured. Body-shape wise, she did not grow taller or gain much weight. pretty much looked the same as before.

It doesn’t seem like we have enough data points other than Nathan’s quads to say if Raf is a master at teaching this skill.

Re Marin and Raf, I think that's just a rumour at the moment, not sure where it started.

we are all very familiar with Nathan's experience with Raf, and what he said about Raf.
And I am not so sure about Nathan's injury management, he seems competing injured his entire time with Raf (ofc, many factors contributed to this, as we discussed already here)
I just provided some other skater's cases.

I was planning to go to Vancouver for Grand Prix final, and now I may have to hold off depending on Nathan's college and training plan. I had lived in Vancouver for several years and was quite excited about the trip.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I have thought UC Irvine is a relatively prestigious university for premed.
Nathan can go to Harvard for medical school afterwards. And he can save enough money from sponsorship and
lucrative Japanese shows for very expensive medical school tuition.

Here in So Cal, UCI actually has a strong bio engineer and partnerships with some renown labs with international research teams. As for pre-med they’re not with Harvard but many benefit from double major and doing more bio than med in their careers.

TBH, I don't really think the specifics of research abilities of all this elite schools matters that much to an undergrad (they will all be good enough for any undergrad)
Name/fame and experience of the university is more important.

4T.

Anyway, Ponsart's having his best season ever and has a real chance to win French Nationals next year.

So happy for him, our “right hand man” :)

And a big shutout to Max for help earning 3 spots for our men’s, can’t be overstated for how he came through besides Nathan when everything was on the line.

Nathan himself credited Raf’s technical coaching. https://translate.googleusercontent...700201&usg=ALkJrhhriBxK0rQL4Jrx3P4GnPAkXruaiw

He also said at Worlds that Raf was more than a coach to him, and I don’t think Nathan is the type to give undeserved praise.

Raf actually seems fatherly towards Nathan and mindful of managing risk of injury. I think this stability has contributed to Nathan’s development as a skater.

Thanks for sharing and respect your opinion.

Hope the Fujitv registration works, he does look tire in all the fan recorded videos sigh, wonder how many songs he will be performing :D

All are personal opinions and mine based on some of my pre-med and bio friends, the professional network some of the schools have built are crucial too, it takes your career quite far here in the States.

Realistically, if Nathan wants to go to Harvard Med school somewhere like UCLA would be a fine choice. A top graduate from UCLA should be able to get into any medical school, but if you add Nathan's celebrity into the equation I can't imagine any med school not wanting him.

here is Nathan's 2018 worlds all choreo(including 2 stsq) no jump practice
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOWu-H_nkVk
this is COR all choreo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1lBA7TZ51U

could notice the choreo change.

I think Nathan's 2018 worlds comp execution is close to his 2018 worlds choreo-only practice, except he omitted that little waltz jump :sad21: and his speed in choreo only practice is okay, in comp does seems a little slow

the choreo only practice of COR is more intricate than worlds choreo only practice. lots of details are missing even he is doing the same intended choreo (basically he forget the details but Nathan does tried to perform well in both practices, same level of intent, just difference in intricacy)

Nathan changed jump-layout for example changed the third jump from 4S to 4F thus the leading transitions into jumps are changed, those 2 lovely rocker turns into his 4S was changed:sad21: but this kinda choreo change is intentional (not he forget the details),

EDIT: also choreo stsq is changed too , that tour is gone:sad21:, so maybe he forget the original as well, or for some reason they changed it, not just him miss it in comps due to fatigue.

Part time photo bomber, keep them coming Nathan can’t never get enough! Look forward to many more in your offseason ;)

Nathan's father sister are all in the medicine field I think they will provide more than sufficient consult to Nathan's college choice.
