Boyang Jin | Page 46 | Golden Skate

Boyang Jin

That's cool that he's got enough to buy a jacket that costs almost $2k. But please, no more pics of Boyang trying to look like a little girl. Too weird. He reminded me of a female friend of mine!

It seems he went out to watch a movie about figure skating (not the Tonya Harding one) and went roller skating for a bit (why roller skating though?). Some people also saw him playing the claw cranes (I would think he already has enough plushies:ohwell:).

Not sure he really brought that expensive jacket - maybe, but maybe it's a present or something. He did talk not too long ago about how his mom some times has to eat "cheap food" to be with him, right? Doesn't sound like they had that much money.

Also, let the little sunshine do what he wants. Girl pigtails or more plushies, he seems to be having fun! :)

There might be some miscommunication here. The original Chinese weibo didn't really say "cheap" food. It's more like his mother does not have "proper meals" when traveling with him. A proper meal in China is usually a meal prepped in the household, starting from scratch (meaning you buy the ingredients and make the food yourself) and taking quite a bit time to make. Considering she's traveling a lot with him, she might not have the time and energy to prepare food herself in a city foreign to her, hence no proper meals.

There was a tweet trying to explain the whole "cheap food" thing but I could not find it now so you'll have to bear with my explanation.

Ah okay, thank you very much for the translation :)

I think Boyang might have enough in prize money at this point.

Nice vacation, but how does anyone know what he's doing?

He might've gotten the jacket off Taobao which has tons of designer dupes and is a massively popular e-commerce site for the Chinese.

That sounds kind of perfect. :P

(Though those must be some really talented dupesters, because it looks the same, if he did do that... That's a great design and if someone can get it for less, go for it  )

^Chinese replicas are of AAA quality. You won't be able to tell if you know how to shop them correctly. They aren't the dinky back of Chinatown alley replica shops.

OT, but I found a few perfect replicas of some photo searches I did for a tenth of the cost. :P

AAA quality might be an understatement.

But isn't Boyang the one with the Rolex watch that Yuzu kept on eyeing during that press conference? China has an emerging middle class after all.

^You can get really good Rolex reps with Chinese sellers. Anything and everything is repped, even Hermes china.

China's middle and upper classes are precisely rep industry's biggest consumers.

Don't think it's an appropriate place to discuss taobao and repped watches. And you don't even know for sure if he's wearing a repped one so I do not see a point in discussing this.

I didn't say he was wearing a repped one. People were asking how he affords luxury goods, and I said there are alternatives, especially in China. So yes, there is a point is discussing it.

The Rolex is original though. It's not a replica from what I can tell. Who's to say that Boyang can't afford them? He does have an iPhone X and the Chinese Fed pays for their skater's expenses and seems to award their skaters with high medal money (other Chinese skaters have been seen sporting expensive goods) and endorsement along with contracts for athletes in China apparently pay a lot. His milk ad for example. As far as I can tell, the middle class in China actually leans more towards luxury goods. The Millennial consumers in China spend 22 billion dollars in 2017 alone. China is an emerging economy and currently the biggest market for luxury goods. It seems highly probable that an elite athlete like Boyang can afford expensive clothings. I did some research on China's middle class a while ago and while they don't necessarily spend money on luxury brands, they do however spend a lot of money on luxury streetwear. Boyang seems to wear lots of luxury street wear.

Also Alibaba, the parent company of Taobao, has launched a luxury e-commerce platform.

Sorry for double posting but do we know whether he's training any new quads this off season? I read somewhere that he is training for quad loop but that seems to mostly be rumours though I would love to see him do a quad loop. Is it probable that he's training quad flip? His triple flip is great technically already so I don't think quad flip will be that much of a problem for him. Quad Axel is obviously out of the table since he said it himself that he wasn't brave enough. Thoughts? Rumours?
