Nathan Chen

Is SOI China going to have a summer tour? Next year the US tour will probably be much smaller. Then he could do US, Japan, and China.

I do not follow SOI China (I only follow Nathan:biggrin::love:), so i don't kr, so far they only have one show at Dec.

yes I checked it, it get edited, deleted the talk bout Nathan's mom and Raf's Russian interview, and their conflict entirely.

IN are really monitoring Nathan's FF. I am scared a little.

Oh my dear Nathan Boi, why are you so secretive, it is not easy to be your fan, I guess I will have early on-set heart attacks :palmf::biggrin:

I thought I was going crazy. I read your comments, and was excited to see his thoughts about Raf's interview, but the interview didn't have anything about it, and I looked up and down to see if there was a link that I missed. Oh well, I'm glad I still got a summary from the people who actually read the article.

First of all congrats to Nathan for getting into Yale! Of course as a fan it makes me nervous how he will do trying to do both. However, this all seems like it's Nathan being Nathan - the guy is so overly ambitious and has been his whole life (like doing multiple sports at the same time and like planning six quads in a program!). Sometimes he is overly ambitious and he fails and learns from the attempt, sometimes he surprises us and fulfills crazy ambitions. I'm guessing he'll try to do both school and skating this year and see how it goes, reevaluate after the first year if changes need to be made. Personally I think he's crazy but that's just me and how I'm wired, Nathan is obviously wired differently! Wishing him all the best. I'm just thankful the article says he feels he has a lot more to do in the sport :)

just wanna remind everyone here,
Nathan's 6-quads FS at OG is a huge success. It is the much desired redemption Nathan needed so that he can leave the Olympic ice without fear and known that he conquered it. And according to Nathan, it is the best decision of his life ever and whoever made that call absolutely made the right call.

From the Yale school paper: Kimberly Wei ’20, who placed 28th in ice dancing in the 2016 World Junior Figure Skating Championships, said that although she welcomes Chen’s apparent decision to come to Yale, she is “confused” about why the skater has decided to attend college at the peak of his career.
Wei, also a pre-med student, said she had to end her competitive skating career after coming to Yale.
“I’m very curious about what his future plans are going to be,” Wei said. “But nonetheless, I’m super excited to meet him and skate on the same ice as him.”

This is his college “6 quads” attempt :) seeing the famous pizza place Yuki shared in regards to Yale kind of put me at ease, btw do try that place if anyone wants to visit him next season hehe. The prefrosh event later this month may turn into a mini Nathan FM LoL he needs some bodyguards when he attends.

That's 12 quads at the same time, poor Nathan!

6 quad attempt schooling sounds about right lol. Or 12 quads it is.

As for ending his career, Nathan has a lot more incentive to continue to compete and put school off than someone who placed 28th in Juniors. Not shading her, but it's true. Being invited to lucrative ice shows will help him pay for his education and by continuing to compete he's status will raise even higher. His super popular in Japan right now and that's only going to grow. Not that she's wrong given that she knows it's going to be hard to go to school and keep up skating but I think the situations are different.

hmm ... looks like icenetwork also removed the part of the article that stated that Nathan found out about acceptance to Yale last Thursday.
but seriously - is someone watching us here? lol

Nathan might be watching you right now! Say something to him:laugh:

Yikes 12 is 6 too many ;) I agree his accomplishment in the sport requires a lot more time to maintain and excel compare to a lower rank athlete, aside from the competitions, the sponsorship and all intangible and tangible incentives are quite high. I don’t foresee him picking school over his career at this juncture when he pretty much just wet his footing and the depth of field will only grow. In the end, if he does chooses to do school over sport, is fine because he’s at peace with the decision and is happy. Doing partial competition doesn’t make sense, if he does real well in the GP, why would he not go all the way with GPF. I hope he shocks us all by doing a good job balancing both woohoo!

I checked and that part is still there.

I think he is dying to enjoy a normal life even just for a short period of time. He is still young and the next Olympics is 4 years away. He sacrificed so much to get to this point. Maybe taking a break will give him a fresh perspective on how much he loves skating and competing.
