Nathan Chen

Ok first of all elite skaters don't work with their main coach every single day. They get a few lessons a week and that's usually it and those are usually 20-40 minutes depending on the coach/student (unless there is a very important upcoming competition). Tom is a little different if he's working you with learning/mastering a jump.

Raf gives the already mentioned amount of time as does other top coaches like Frank Carroll.

And then any number of choreographers and dance instructors that work on fixing choreography or movement (and no I'm not talking about main choreographers), they just assist on making fixes if needed and agreed on, off ice trainers, jump coaches, skating skills specialists (usually a former elite ice dancer), etc.

In Raf's team there is also Nadia that helps with the coaching (assistant coach); IIRC the above.

For what's being discussed here there is also the same kind of thing with Vincent, but he has more options since he's in Colorado Springs at the USFS training center.
Someone like Vincent has Tom, Christy, Drew, Becky, Ben, Ryan and others that work on that elite coaching team to assist him.

And this is all without mentioning the off ice trainers, physios, doctors, and psychologists.

talking about Vincent's coaching situation is to compare with Nathan's. may reveal some insights.
But so far Vincent hasn't proven his coaching situation to be in any way better off than Nathan's, results-wise, or development-wise.

Maybe Nathan could just have experts from Hackensack come up to New Haven a few times per week?

This is what I’ve been thinking will happen. It doesn’t make much sense for him to commute but I could see people making the drive to come work with someone of Nathan’s caliber a few times a week.

Hackensack or even Chelsea Piers Sky Rink. There are many coaches there, as long as Morozov doesn't touch him I'm ok. (I think).

Wow for a sec I thought my phone is acting up again and went to Vincent’s thread Lol

I read on some other thread that it is the reporter who misunderstood what Nathan said, it should be something like he is considering Economics while trying to fulfil the requirement for medical school, which makes much more sense to me.

After so many carbon copies of Phil’s interviews, not surprising reporters may add their own understanding in the direction of Nathan’s future when he himself really shared almost nothing even with Phil. I think with the network/connection Yuki and/or IMG has worn Yale, they should be quite accommodating to Nathan. Again, all guesses to fill time.

That is such stiff and awkward with the choreo, it's not the choreo, it's the skater.:ohwell::palmf:

Here here.

Not to change the subject but I love my new avatar and title. ;)

THANK YOU 😊 (deservingly for all CAPS) I was beginning to think about doing something to my avatar, now I will follow suit.

Each skater at Nathans level has a team of coaches, choreographers, dance instructors, trainers, physios, sports psych's and so on.

It's not just Nathan and Raf all the time.

Vincent isn't the only one that has a full team, most if not all of them do, especially in the US and Canada.

Thanks for the info.

But so far Vincent hasn't proven his coaching situation to be in any way better off than Nathan's, results-wise, or development-wise.

I think he was stop competing for one season to finish high school right? Maybe that’s why he’s still catching up. But I agree and I’m sure he will improve in this offseason especially base on his post Worlds interview.

Thank you Vincent, you have helped propel Nathan’s thread at a 110% speed.

I'm not particularly worried about Vincent because the bigger threats will be Alex K and Camden P when they move up to Seniors Internationally.

That is what I have been thinking, don't know if it is doable. It would save so much time for him, especially during the long winter days.

I would think it's mostly a matter a money, which I'm assuming Nathan has enough of nowadays.

Maybe Vincent isn’t at Nathan’s level - but he did win Junior Worlds last year and only placed one below Nathan at Olympics. He is the top 17 yr old men’s skater in the world afaik

Well, he was one place below Nathan at the Olympics for reasons we all know. Or we know why Nathan was that low anyway. Nathan's place at the Olympics in relation to Vincent does not really reflect what Nathan can actually do.

And l don't get comparing Nathan's coaching situation to someone who is placing well below him on every level.

Annnd finally to add, Vincent's coaches are letting him go out and do UR bad quads he can't land for reasons unknown, so I'm not sure I see where they are so great.

Then we might as well be comparing Nathan to anyone. I'm confused by your particular focus on Vincent. Since you have also said Vincent's coaching arrangement is still new as opposed to tried and true, wouldn't it be more insightful and meaningful to discuss someone else who actually has a proven record?

i am not particular familiar with other skaters' coaching situation.
I do kr a little bit more about Vincent's coaching situation.
And both Vincent and Nathan are US elite figure skaters, many situations can be applied to both of them not to skaters from other countries.
That is why.

if you wanna proven record, you could think about Yuzuru's coaching situation.

Yes, personally don’t appreciate his character and some things I’ve heard. Onto a different subject, can I ask you a question on the SOI?

Team Nathan does have mismanagement. But Nathan has more sponsorship, media responsibilities which took up lot of his time, plus college application, plus sick around nationals, and OG.

As to Vincent's coach team, it really puzzled me that why they still let the kid try such an aggressive layout if they know he has back injury?

i think Vincent's tried the 6 quads on the fly (changed from 5 quads). sine he wanna get as many points as possible,

Indeed. He did do Nathan's Saint-Saëns program after all... But I think he is coaching in Russia now.

Sure, if you'd like you may come to PM.

Well, he did do Nathan's Saint-Saëns program after all...

Yes but that was several seasons ago and he was never worked with again and for good reason, at this point in Nathan's career, he would ruin his style and movement. Keep hm away.:roll5:
