Just my impression - maybe Nathan was very shy/reserved when he was younger - like Raf said would only say like one world to him the whole day - but he’s gradually come out of his shell. Even eventually started speaking to Ashley lol.

So maybe overall chill and on the reserved side - but he really doesn’t seem super shy?

Though I could see how he could be seen as quite shy compared to like Adam.

What I had been saying above was that the super shyness doesn't apply much to his training mates, team and other skaters.

Nathan doesn’t seem that shy to me - maybe he’s an introvert than can be extroverted at times ?

He seems to value close friendships and missed being able to hang out with friends in more regular settings - like with his hockey team (that he had to later quit), regular school. He seems to be less sheltered than some other top skaters around his age though (just my impression) and has a lot of outside interests.
I think he will make lifelong friendships in college and will truly enjoy the college experience.
I don’t know if he has close friendships outside of skating. From his IG he used to have another super close guy friend pre-Romain - I’ve seen some posts elsewhere on this forum of people thinking that was his boyfriend lol - not sure if they are still close. I guess it’s not easy with everyone moving around all the time.

ah ok. I haven’t met Nathan or anything so this is all pure speculation

With being in the sport at that level (I'm a pro now) you kind of learn things about the personalities within it.

Is it strange that I’m now wondering if Nathan’s wearing makeup now? Some photos his skin just looks so flawless. Maybe he uses BB cream or something lol

could be stage makeup or facetune
he doesn't like sequins
or lighting, or a filter. they can work wonders

Girls and older ones is another story, plus Ashley seems intimidating but isn't. Also, if Nathan's mom is with him would you think he would want to strike it up with ladies at the rink?

Good point - but his freckles seem to have disappeared lately. Definitely not disputing his naturally nice skin though. Like in this older photo, he has a few freckles

He seemed a shy person to me. Shy and introvert people could be very fun, sometimes even "crazy" when they are with friends, or people they are familiar with. It is when it comes to strangers or not so familiar environment, you can tell the difference. I have a friend who is extremely shy, but you cannot tell if you don't know her well. What she was telling me was that she has to try very hard to overcome the nervousness/uncomfortableness when she was asking help or initiating conversations with people she doesn't know very well in her teenager years.

Also I remember in that Freshman15 video, when asked about public speaking and Olympics, he mentioned that public speaking is scarier than Olympics which his teammate had total different answer.

I remember those nice post. Last year was a lonely year as a Nathan fan. He quickly went from the long shot to the upstart over night. At first, no one listen when we said that Nathan could beat Javier or Yuzuru. Then when he did, it was easier to say nothing that to deal with the aftermath. Now there’s a nice friendly community here with lots of opinions and outside sources. I love hearing what Nathan’s Chinese and Japanese fans think. I love having people to lament over his hair cut and look perplexed with his new Vera Wang costumes. And this years it’s so nice to have a place to cheer his success and have people generally happy for him too. It may not have been a perfect season, but I’m super proud of what he did accomplish and now I have a bunch of Nathan fans to share it with.
