Alina Zagitova

Do you really think the largest bank in Russia would care about some opinions from people like TAT? Again you're starting this pointless drivel without any understanding of what's happening. This is just the way bank has chosen to make an ad. The bank just says that it has lowest crediting rates in their own history(record) and they draw a parallel with Alina who is also a record holder in some sense. This is the reason they refer to Alina as a record-holder. You probably forgetting that this ad has been made for a bank, not for Alina.

You may be right but I just want her referred to as Olympic champion Alina Zagitova I don't care what Tatiana Tarasova thinks and I don't care that Evgenia Medvedeva is more popular and famous in Russia than Alina is. Alina is deservedly Olympic champion and I want to see her get her props. Period.

And now for something completely different. Apologies if this had been previously discussed.

Can anyone comment on her living situation in Moscow? I understand her family lives in her hometown and she lives in Moscow with her grandmother.

The tours they gave to Japanese programs present very humble living accommodations. Are these provided/subsidized by the school? Or is it more of a sign of tight family funds?
Yulia received two flats in 2014, Alina none, just saying (even being Julia's fan). Imo, in a country like Russia, which is not some third world state, Olympic champion should live in more comfortable conditions. :scowl:

Alina has a strong will and mind, but her personality is quiet and humble. She will be just fine and knows that she has earned her place.

As her father said in a post-win interview, this is her character.

Very true about her personality and how low key and humble she is. That's why I and other fans of Alina's stand up for her and don't like it when she is not treated with the respect of being olympic champion.

I have no idea of the cost of living in Moscow and how it's stacked up against other cities. I know I lived in NYC in a studio that is the size of Harry Potter's broom closet and I probably payed enough to afford a 10 room home in lots of other cities. Rent in Moscow is probably expensive in comparison with other Russian cities and you have to factor in how much money a person makes to be able to afford said rent (her Grandma probably doesn't work).

I hope she gets subsidized housing but I'm not sure she does, or at least did before she won the Olympics. From some of her Periscope videos you can see that the apartment has more rooms that what was shown on TV. I'm not sure how much that is a typical (and by that I mean average) Moscow apartment layout. I could see she was able to walk to and from Sambo 70, that's a plus and maybe a factor in the choice of housing, in large cities it is so much better not to have to rely on public transportation to get around all the time, saves time and is less stressful. Her walk to and from training seems to go through some beautiful park and some great outside spaces, plenty of places for her to get some air and enjoy life.

She wasn't called Olympic champion, because they referred to her as a World record holder - as a metaphor for the bank having a World record credit percentage. It's not a ban, just a conception of the commercial. The people on sports.ru tend to overreact A LOT to everything regarding Med & Zagi. I strongly advise to filter out the information that is being posted there in the blogs and comments.
One of the problems with people who are either fans, or just casuals trying to understand figure skating, is that THERE ARE NO WORLD RECORDS IN FIGURE SKATING. No matter how objective our judging system becomes, the scores can still be several points off, depending on the circumstances. This is the big elephant in the room that too many people fail to see no matter how evident it is:

The ISU does not currently recognize the highest scores as "World records".

The ISU does not currently recognize the highest scores as "World records".

Evgenia Medvedeva, Alina Zagitova, Volosozhar/Trankov, etc. are not world record holders. They are highest score holders.

Please understand this fans of FS because this elephant in the room is too big to not notice

I believe some of the Periscope videos were taken at her parents apartment in Izhvesk. It seems very nice. Her apartment in Moscow, not so much. I hope that changes, but she gets to stay in her ideal location, so close to the rink and the park.

We will have to wait and see. I'm still holding out hope that a new apartment might be a possibility for Alina and her grandmother in the very near future. Come on Russian government! Make it happen! Fingers crossed....

Alina lives in a modest apartment near Sambo 70 with her grandma and pets, as far as I know
I think it's just what her family could afford, in that location

I think now, after the prizes and endorsements she got, she can afford herself to buy a flat.

I wasn't referencing ISU here or talking about figure skating as a sport. I used that expression to clarify the idea behind the commercial. In the video Alina is specifically referred to as "Мировая рекордсменка", which is translated as "World record holder".

I totally agree with this comment.
I think it's an exaggeration this story with Eteri being unhappy, persecuting Alina and so on...

Did Adelina also receive a flat(s)? Because I know that her family situation wasn't good and she has a sick sister.

That's her grandmother's apartment which is appropriate. Alina is just staying there. I'm not sure why people are so upset. Now that she has endorsements she can decide to move out or stay. It would be funny if she and Evgenia Medvedeva decide to share an apartment though.

If it is indeed originally just her grandma's apartment, it's less depressing. But I nonetheless find it surprising that there only seems to be one bed for two people and no washroom. Unless this is typical of Moscow? Very humble accommodations.

In Toronto where I live, it is unusual for family members to share beds unless they are children, spouses, or facing hard times. It is also unusual to not have a washroom in a flat (unless it's a school dorm, which I originally thought she was living in).

Her grandmother left Izhvesk to stay with Alina in Moscow since neither of her parents could. Her grandmother did not live in Moscow or have an apartment there prior to Alina going to train with Eteri.

I believe the apartment has its own washroom. The Japanese tv show didn't show it (understandably) but I think they mentioned it.

I guess as long as there is love in the home, and it is warm and safe and dry, it doesn't matter how small. But it would be nice if Alina, and he grandmother for that matter, could each have their own bedroom. Sharing a pullout sofa doesn't seem ideal for an athlete or a grandmother.

This is understandable, but it has nothing to do with this concrete video made by bank for advertisement purposes.

Poor, poor Alina who has to share the bed with her relatives... Omg some theories that people create here are going way too far..
Also whats the point to rent a big apartment when you live in the city temporarily? I also rent apartment like this, just because it doesn't make any sense for me at this point of time to spend more money on this (but i can easily afford much better apartment). This is just a pragmatic thinking.
I think they have a better apartment in Izhevsk, where rest of her family lives. And may be now with all the money she earned she will consider buying a better apartment if she feels she has a need in it.

Not really a theory, just making a very basic observation of 'one bed and two occupants.' Since you seem to be Russian/ living in Russia, is it a typical flat?

As someone previously stated, it doesn't seem ideal for an athlete.

Anyways, let's leave it at that. I do hope they can upgrade to be more comfortable.

We begin to think alike

It's not necessary to pity Alina, really... Besides the fact that pity is a low energy feeling, this is not the case, cause she is a young, successful lady, with a lovely family, who trains with the best coach for ladies in the world and who is already famous and earns her own money at such an early age. And very beautiful, I forgot to mention :)))
