Nathan Chen

The nearly empty meet and greet at Walmart is hilarious (poor Nathan though!). There’s definitely some poor marketing here but (and don’t bash me for this comment) nathan needs to improve his fan engagement using social media if he wants to pull (or even retain) more sponsors. An Instagram story or tweet a day or two before the event and he will easily reach his 300k+ followers. Even with stars on ice, we need to rely on instastories from other skaters for our Nathan fix. And he’s one of the headliners! It’s probably not his obligation to post about his events but I’m sure if he does it will help with the publicity.

Agree 100% in term of marketing he does have a shared responsibility which he still hasn’t grasp or no one (hi Yuki) shown him?!? It’s a relevant point since his recent IG posts aside from the limited OG and Worlds posts, the posts were so sponsored heavy, he will only post when promo is in need. This slow M&G does give him a chance to learn about the spokesperson experience and the how-to. That comes with the territory and as much as he may not enjoy it, it’s an obligation. Ok Kellogg’s, I’ll refund you $1.

He doesn't as long as everyone around him enjoys filming him lol. It's not like he doesn't show up a lot doing random things.

I wonder if he prefers others do the job for him. Romain is actually known as his PR manager among many Japanese fans. LOL Just imagine the info drought once he starts college.

Probably reaching dangerous territory. Though I think as world champion and national champion x 2 and as someone who gets invited to Japanese shows (that no other American skater is getting invited to) he's doing all right and as long as he keeps doing well then that's all he needs to do. We can probably agree that skating isn't his whoole life. He's just really good at it (and good at everything maybe!?) so it's possible why he doesn't spend as much time talking about and promoting himself as a skater, or maybe he lets other people do it for him. I personally kind of like his approach vs everyone else who is out there hustling. He's chill and posting about shoes. :confused2:

Lol!!! yes I followed Romain for Nathan content. Hahaha.

And I agree with most of you that I get the feeling that he doesn’t really care/isn’t interested in self promoting. It’s not wrong as he is a figure skater first and foremost and at the end of the day without the results it doesn’t matter how active he is on social media. But my point was just to highlight that his target demographic are always on their phone (case in point Nathan himself!) and sponsors care about the engagement and reach of their spokesperson.

It’s ok with me if Nathan isn’t active on social media

But at the same time it seems a little disingenuous if his posts are only sponsored ones

Haha yup well... FS isn’t his endgame so he doesn’t share as much as others (which is fine) or need to care what others think (in the short term) since he’s got sponsors and fans, after all he’s 18 and still learning, too. Above all else, he has his flaws so haha 😂 just take what you like and leave the rest aside :)

Ok I hope I don’t get slammed for this

But some of the other skaters seemed to have a lot of fun filming and posting Nathan

And honestly may have benefited and gotten more likes/IG story views from his popularity

I don’t mind since it’s a great fan service to me lol I say keep them coming, it’s not like he’s oblivious to it all.

i'll repeat my point again
but i highly doubt this was pr i think someone high up at one of his sponsor companies had a son or daughter who wanted to meet him
and they threw in this little meet and greet on the side.
also, is it just me or he seems so emotionless in that video
there's only the smize

Believed it or not, Walmart is my fav store. Hang out in Walmart for the weekends :biggrin: Surprised that Nathan showed up in Walmart out of all those fancy stores, another personal connection with Nathan:luv17: I bet Nathan and Mom shop at Walmart too.:luv17:

still only light stroking for now:biggrin:

“酒香不怕巷子深” that is their marketing strategy...

Which means "Good wine needs no bush. Genuine good-quality goods need no promotion to attract people, as good wine needs no marketing solicitation. "

And yes I am back (after 6 month off-ice rehap JK:biggrin:). Take it easy tho, only light stroking for now:yes:
Welcome back! You've been missed!

Sponsors pay Nathan for using his imagery for a contracted period of time. It's marketers' job to use Nathan to promote their brand, not nathan's.

Welcome back yyyskate, so how many days is penalty box lol?

Eta I doubt sponsors even bother checking his social media pages unless they are fans themselves or there are contracted obligations.

He looks like a Target person lol

i DON't KNOW, I received a private msg from the lovely @oatmella and magically I can post again.

Really appreciated your USIC, WC last dancer comparison video, Great job, will comment more about that when I am get my triples back.

good please comment soon. you are moving fast. just stokes before and now already working on triples. you'll be doing quads in no time.

I could see him as a Target person, but I doubt he does much shopping outside of the shoe store ever

ETA: and yes, it's the sponsors job to promote him. Kellogg's should have promoted the appearance better. It's not up to him.

The newspaper said this event was sponsored by both Kellogg's and Walmart so I'm still expecting some kind of sponsorship agreement with Walmart. If I were to guess I'd say this event was staged for the benefit of the community and employees.

This LOW table makes him look so SMOL and it's ridiculous  and only 2 women... back to the days when he had no fans? sorry, I can't stop my hysterical laughing (i feel sorry for him smh but maybe he enjoyed that, who knows).

actually, You have all the time in the world to have a serious conversation with our precious boi, and he seems is in the mood to talk (out of boredom I guess)
EDIT: cos cannot on his phone:biggrin: Now I feel for him..

Right. Walmart main hq is in AR, so it kinda makes sense if something else bigger comes from this. Or else it's just the most random event ever.
