Nathan Chen

Does he need a social media manager?

Honestly I think he is quite shy at heart. There’s probably only so much of this he can really take

His one smize face at the meet and greets - while cute - kinda seems like survival mode to me.

He seems super comfortable and genuine with kids as far as I can tell though

sad about it, but this is true, only one smize face. professionally designed and rehearsed.

Also, just the way how Nathan talks nowadays sounded so professional too, Nathan sounded more and more like the ShibSibs in terms of Political Correctness in converse either with fans or just in general.
He is more of himself on Insta before he became so popular/famous...
Maybe only in the moment with kids or puppies he can truly felt relaxing and at ease

Probably reaching dangerous territory. Though I think as world champion and national champion x 2 and as someone who gets invited to Japanese shows (that no other American skater is getting invited to) he's doing all right and as long as he keeps doing well then that's all he needs to do. We can probably agree that skating isn't his whoole life. He's just really good at it (and good at everything maybe!?) so it's possible why he doesn't spend as much time talking about and promoting himself as a skater, or maybe he lets other people do it for him. I personally kind of like his approach vs everyone else who is out there hustling. He's chill and posting about shoes. :confused2:

Before Nathan is this famous.
He truly cared about everything related to figure skating (his career). he answered ALL fan questions at that time (the before insta days, 2,3 questions per week) just like every up and coming skaters will like every fans' comment or posting about them on insta nowadays, just a few months ago, that was Vincent, not like that any more.:sad21:

There are plenty of other USA skaters who are very loved by the Japanese fans and are invited on the regular to their shows: Jeremy Abbott is one.

Well, there are more fans now and I doubt he can answer much but he does still answer some fan questions. Some fans sent him msg's on ig and he answered them about yale. But yeah, he's more famous now and I can see why he's more reserved. Plus he's growing up.

Also with more fame comes more bitterness. There's lots of new fans, but also lots of the opposite lately. We all know he reads rockerskating and there was even negativity towards him there (from other people tweeting Jackie) with his worlds win. So, I hope he doesn't search out a lot of content about himself tbh and just lives his life doing other things. Though that's just my feelings and he might not even care. Though hopefully when FS starts back up again he'll be more active in promoting his career on IG. If he doesn't, we can always just watch other people film him then haha. To your comment below, yeah he still does more than some skaters. Cherish it while you can like you said.

@Ic3Rabbit And yeah, I meant the shows this year (and of skaters will competing) not to say nobody else has ever been invited. Nathan is doing well for himself regardless.

also, super star in Nathan's caliber (or he is becoming soon) like Yuna or Yuzuru, never promote themselves. Yuzuru has no social media account, Yuna is the most fellowed skater on insta before media bae Adam surpassed her. but Yuna's insta is also only about #AD and way less posts than Nathan's.
Also it is extremely difficult to get a photo with Yuzuru even in competitions, it is nearly impossible.
At least Nathan's fan service in terms of taking photos (although just one smize face now, he used to laugh/making faces etc:sad21: ) with fans is still very generous at the moment (Thank you Nathan). just a reminder, cherish this moment before it too become impossible.

I believe, Nathan's passion about Figure skating is as strong as ever if not stronger now (he changed his mind and decided to go for another 4 year), it is just he is so famous now, not just popular skaters, but one of those rare cases of super star, idol popular, he is rapidly reaching there. thus some things is inevitable, like the cases I mentioned above.

For sure! I don't mean to say he's not passionate about it anymore, but just things are different now. He's a lot more famous and like you said, it's inevitable.

I'm so glad he's staying for another 4 years. I really want to read his icenetwork interview where he mentioned he wanted more world titles.

@frida80 that walmart visit was good for something. pretty soon we'll have more ice dance performance to critique as well and I'm sure more hair talk.

Speaking of Patrick. His recent announcement of retirement. Borrow Nathan's FF to express my tribute to the legend of figure skating that is Patrick Chan. will never forget the eye opening experience when I watched your skating for the first time. you will be forever remembered by this little fan here and your skating is like you said indeed "memorable".

to answer a few questions while I was in the penalty box, so eager to try out my first quad:biggrin:
1, pass the torch logic, Yuna to Karen, maybe some new figure skating fans are not aware of this, but a few years back, Karen showed lots of promises and raw talent that many long time figure skating fans including Yuna fans saw some similarity to Yuna and considered Karen maybe the next big thing (And Karen used to be a huge Yuna fan in those good old days). But things did not go as fans expected.
2. Ash's SS. IMO I don't think the ice dance number is a good measurement of Ash's SS, the steps are quite simple to differentiate. Also, Ash's perform is poised, she wanna give a effortless allure vibe thus some of the steps she does seemed half a** it, compare to Nathan, he is full out. Speaking of Ash's SS, she generally has great smooth glide in simple in-between skating (with good posture), only is lacking during difficult stsq foot work. Nathan is kinda the opposite, fantastic at difficult foot work, but could be impatient/raw during simple glides/steps. Also, I wanna mention a little thing of Nathan's dance. Nathan's very musical, he innately anticipates the steps with great musical timing, but occasionally, he is so eager, he may rush the timing a tiny bit.
3, yes, the ice dance with Ash is getting better, but some of the steamy photos maybe disguising, Posture maybe just a little better(nah not really). Nathan got some latin flavor (such as body roll, but still not at Ciz level tho:biggrin:) but not others (the ocho/cross roll), and yes he can use some hip grind lesson from college nightclubs. All these being said, I LOVE LOVE the ice dance with Ash so much, I don’t care all the lyric blah. it is cute and fun and i LOVE to watch Nathan try different things.
4, Nathan’s blue T-shirt in the ice dance number probably is the best costume he ever had, maybe it is because it is tucked in and somehow could not get out like his white shirt.
5, the comparison video made by our lovely @frida80, Not just the choreo step sequence change, he indeed took out some precious transitions, not only upperbody/arm dance moves, but also blade work too, e.g. waltz jump. rocker turns, and multi-directional turns/skating after jump landing (all these are intentionally designed by Lori). Overall, the structure is still there and Nathan’s innate musicality made sure every thing is done according to music phrasing thus is not as obvious.
6, all the hair talk, while I was in the penalty box, I just found every comment about Nathan's hotness , hair etc. being super cute and I love it:biggrin:
7. Thanks everyone for sharing everything about Nathan.

Hopefully, my first quad landed without UR.

Wondering how long ago he graduated HS - according to his ask.fm he skipped 8th grade and was already in 11th grade in 2015.

Cute photo - but at this point even the smize is fading ...

https://instagram.com/p/BhsFgsjHTRz/

Lately, he developed a smirk, lips tilted to the right side of the photo(not his right side) on top of his signature smize.
He really perfected his fan service look now.
do you see it
