Nathan Chen

I like Boyang, but I don't think it make much sense for him to come to Raf. His jump is good enough. Plus Orser himself already had headache from Yuzu and Javier prior to Pyeongchang OG.

Let us focus on Nathan, not to get another mod warning.

the dreaded mod warning :scard7:

If Nathan was hoping to periodically fly Raf in to Yale to coach him then he must be making boatloads of money. Maybe he even has enough money to bring Nadia Kanaeva with him.

Maybe united can help him out with that? idk

The airfare would be the least of his expenses. If he flew Raf out he'd have to pay for his living expenses, his coaching fees, as well as the income Raf would otherwise be receiving from coaching his other students.

As far as I know, not only he has to cover room and board, airline ticket and lesson fees, but also the lost income .... let Kellogg’s pay haha...

Nathan is in a touch situation. better change coach then. Be Bold Nathan. Give it a try, now is the best time, maybe you can survive without Daddy Raf:biggrin:

Not sure about the last one, if Nathan books Raf's time ahead, he shouldn't need to pay for coach fees raf would receive from other students. It's different from taking Raf for competition. While being away from Raf, other students got more training hours already.

USFSA should be throwing money at Nathan to keep him in tip top shape. Open up the big envelope they haven't used for awhile.

Nathan is the favorite child. He'll get Raf over there. Raf wouldn't have even mentioned it if he thought it was too ridiculous to try.

though I don't know who the heck he'd even go with if not Raf. It's not like there is an elite coach anywhere near him anyway. Either he'd have to travel or pay a new guy to come to him. Might as well stick with what he knows.

Let’s be realistic

Raf isn’t going to flying to New Haven that often

I would think only a few times during the season at most

Yeah, he won't. There are some competitions where Nathan would be on break from school anyway and he could come to Raf. And Raf only said before competitions, not all the time.

The only real issues would be before nationals or worlds, where Raf would be busy with a lot of other skaters. Though Ashley isn't competing this year (I think?) and Adam will retire (probably), so that's 2 less US skaters he has to worry about.

He will never do that. The kid has brains..lot’ of them. He flew for just three days to see a Raf last week. That’s how it’s going to work. By phone and exchanged visits.

I don't know how sustainable the situation is - I think Raf is willing to try it Nathan's way for now (especially since Nathan is "his baby") but I also think he's hopeful that Nathan will find it all to be too much and will return to focus just on skating.

This does not sound like a smart choice for me. and yeah, I think Nathan is quite smart. I hope he makes smart choice.

Maybe I'm not understanding how it works, but I thought elite coaches typically work with multiple skaters during the same session. So if Raf was away he'd be losing income from those other skaters.

Definitely. I agree with you.
