Alina Zagitova

Short video from practice :) https://youtu.be/ZbyE2HFgE9w
At the end Alina said she is very glad to be invited to this show, it is one more new experience for her, she is glad to be there.

Wow thank you so much for this. So nice to wake up to all these great pictures and video. Thank you for the translation of what she said.

And here you can find pictures galore of this training session http://news1.kr/photos/view/?3071261 (this link will drop you in a lovely picture of Alina but if you move the top bar to the left you will see the first pictures on the link and there is plenty of Alina there, I recommend moving down from the first pic).

Alina looks smashing. And very happy.

Oh no, no.. He looks like a redneck , she is our princess)))

Kirill is the most humble and kind player on our national team. Being a hockey fan it was unpleasant for me to see such comments here. I understand that you're mostly joking, but still...

Well if I thought nothing could be worse than YouTube english auto generated subs on Russian speaking videos I was seriously wrong. Reading Google translated Korean articles is an exercise in dealing the the abstract. Hard to make out what is being said. Come Google, get your act together on other world languages, we need you (more than I would like to in fact).

http://www.spotvnews.co.kr/?mod=news&act=articleView&idxno=208468 so from this lovely piece I get that Alina will probably perform her EX number, besides being on the group numbers, she talks about growing 5cm, mentions that this didn't happen overnight, that it indeed interfered with her jumps but she is confident that she and her coaches will be able to solve this and work around it. Sounded like future tense solve it but with Google who knows. I can say that from watching her EX during this Ice Show season, she has 4 jumps in it (1st one is a combo), that she's been pretty consistent with all of them throughout all this. Only on SOI Yokohama filming did she get stuck on the second jump of the combo but that was no biggie.

And now I'm curious and want to know if any of the more savvy peeps here can enlighten me on something: from another Korean news piece I got that the reason she and Zhenya didn't give out the interview at the airport was that all their interviews have to be okayed with the Russian Figure Skating Federation first (they have to release them to do it) and the news people forgot to do this for this particular interview. So, in their case, the Russian Figure Skating Fed acts like an agent? Do they book them on Ice Shows too (like agents do for others)? Does someone from them also travels with them (like some agents travel with their clients to handle things locally)?

She will adapt to her growth spurt well imo cuz she diets like crazy haha she will still be light and skinny for jumps.

Also maybe her growth spurt lead to her mistakes in 2018 worlds.

Zagitova is on special diet called tchaikovsky diet(very popular among young girls) so don't worry.

Ari Zakarian(Plushchenko agent) answers to your question: The chief manager of all Russian skaters is FFKR(russian federation) that deals with everything related to the skaters. I can only help if they let me.(Главный «режиссер» всех российских фигуристов – это Федерация фигурного катания России, которая решает все задачи, связанные со спортсменами. Я могу только помогать в зависимости от их разрешения.)

she talks about growing 5cm

I wonder how tall she is now! Her Olympics profile shows her at 1.56m. Some of the 5cm must be from before the Olympics, else she would be 1.61m now, which will make her taller than Evgenia (but from the Korea photos, she is still obviously shorter than Evgenia).

Im my humble opinion: well there's more than one way to skin a cat, she is super muscular already so maybe she still will build on that. Looking at her performances (from afar) she seems to be drawing a lot from her muscular strength.

I think 2018 WC was like a perfect storm of multiple things, being super tired (which with her very demanding program layout) is a killer though, so I think that played a bigger part. On all 3 of her falls she landed on the back of her heel, so same thing happened in all of them. Can't really stand to watch that heartbreak again to really come to more profound conclusions over it. But, again in my very humble opinion, I think that whatever is trowing her back onto her heel at landings is what needs to be worked on.

Thank you so much for your answer, I was really curious to understand how this worked.

I'm really curious about that myself, it's so hard to tell from photos, my best "human ruler" is Shoma because they were actually standing side by side (they list him at 1,59m) - she looked very close to his height in Japan.

Great idea re the “human ruler”! So maybe 3cm before Olympics like what was reported and then 2cm after so putting her at 1.58m.

Hockey players are often some of the kindest athletes.

Also, as a Canadian, I feel obligated to chirp you that we would've got gold if the NHL took a break in the season. :)

I also think she was drained of emotion. Like there was literally nothing left to give.

In addition to growing, getting sick, and whatever else, there is really no way to practice how you feel after winning everything for an entire season that is also your debut senior season. Beating your idol, training mate and friend at Euros. Then winning not one but two medals at the Olympics, winning Russia's first gold and becoming Olympic champion. Then becoming and instant hero/star/celebrity at home and internationally.

When it was time to do it all again for WCs, something just said - nope.

I hear you
I did watch again when NBC had its broadcast on 4/8 and despite all the problems she had I thought she still showed a lot of "fight"

A) Even after falling on the back end of the 3 lutz - 3 loop she still attempted the 2 axel - 3 toe (resulting in fall #2)
B) She then completed (although with some problems) her three jump combo
C) At a point where most skaters would have been too emotionally deflated she then attempted the 3 lutz - 3 loop again (resulting in fall #3)
D) Now after 3 falls she then completed (again probably with problems) the 3 sal, 3 flip, and finally the 2 axel.
E) I can't recall everything - but I don't think she missed any of the spins or spirals that were planned and I think her final pose ended right on the music.

I think that kind of "fighting spirit" is commendable and she could truly be destined for greatness.

Remember too - that she actually attempted 8 triple jumps in that program in spite of all that must have been going through her mind!
