All I heard in that segment was Alina talking about food. She likes to talk about food. ;)

My money's on the grandmother. Based on photos she is a very young looking grandmother! She has been traveling with Alina for the overseas shows and that is reassuring. Also Alina's dad just stopped playing hockey a few years ago. I'd imagine he can take of whatever needs to be taken care of should anything come along that needs to be taken care of. He can bring the Izvehsk hockey team along for back up. And Eteri's presence alone is probably protection enough. I would not cross that woman! I think I'd rather face the hockey team! ;)

In all seriousness, I do hope they get Alina a good agent to manage her opportunities.

Alina also seems to have some good instincts for self-protection. I have never seen a (famous) teenager less interested in posting on IG. She has 5 posts since the Olympics. Not one selfie. Not one pic of her medals, bmw, new phone, or anything material other than the scrapbook she received. She posts IG stories that can't be commented on to thank fans for their gifts. I think it is a smart choice to limit her exposure to online attention positive and negative.

A) I think Alina's grandmother is 58. The Japanese TV show "Thank You Creatures" had information superimposed on the video and when it showed Alina I saw "15" and when it showed her grandmother I saw "58" (along with a lot of Japanese writing).

B) I remember when Sarah Hughes won the Gold in 2002, her father who is a sports attorney looked out for her interests. She was originally supposed to host "Saturday Night Live" right after the Olympics but he didn't think it was an appropriate show for a 16 year old girl to participate in.

We are all allowed to have our own opinions, but I am genuinely puzzled at your conclusion that Alina wants a lot of attention. If anything her social media habits lead me to the exact opposite conclusion. She is not on twitter, I don't think she has updated her vk page once since the Olympics. She has posted 5 posts on IG. Only one of which is self promoting (the commercial).

If she wanted tons of 'likes' or 'follows' or compliments she could post pictures of anything (her manicure!) and be showered in them!

She's posted nothing from the ice shows in Japan. (Just a cute poodle pic) Nothing (so far) from Korea. Nothing with other famous skaters or athletes. Nothing from the Olympic Gala or the World's Gala. Nothing from 'backstage' at her tv appearances or the ice shows.

I haven't seen her exhibit attention seeking behaviors at all. She is never 'dressed to kill'. When she was appearing on the Japanese television show she was dressed casually wearing a shirt I've seen her wear many times before. Honestly, she could have gone a little fancier imo. But that is part of her charm (for me) how genuinely unassuming and authentic she is.

As for her being possessive, I couldn't say. Unless you are judging her on her love for stuffed animals? If so, fair enough.

She is such a humble person and to hear someone say that she's attention-seeking is... confusing, to say the least. Alina - you keep being you! That is what makes you a relatable and endearing person. I have been that same fifteen year old in the park. We are with you!

So much! If she stops skating tomorrow, I will still follow news of her and wish her the best of everything. She has my heart.

As her fan, I wish she would post more. But also as her fan, I respect that she is maintaining some privacy and not opening herself up to comments and exposing herself to toxic online energy. Or the alternative, an overdose of - omgiloveyou! youarethebest!

I will admit to hoping that Maseru gets his own IG so we can see lots of pics! :)

This reminds of the scene in the RT documentary "Of Ice and Fame", when Evgenia went to school. Maybe it was the editing but instead of being greeted at school and catching up with classmates she had to push her way through her classmates to get to class. Also when Evgenia is walking her dog and talking about missing her childhood.

It seems like their social lives revolve around other skaters in the same training facility. So as skaters drop out because they're not good enough, they lose friends as well. Especially, for an individually oriented sport like figure skating where only the top 3 go to competitions, where even your teammates are your adversaries.

I saw that rhythmic gymnastics documentary. Viner is a character ... as well as Alina's namesake. I guess it pays to be married to an oligarch. Maybe Eteri has an oligarch on the side.

I can only surmise that Madison thinks Alina is seeking attention because she watched a few of her Periscope videos when she was doing those charming selfie videos or that skin tight tiger skin leotard Alina wears at exhibitions. Again I can't speak for Madison but I imagine that's what she's thinking. But all in all I think Alina has done a good job staying as low-key as possible. She is not living a normal life but she seems as normal as possible. Her friends are figure skaters. On that Periscope video where Alina talks about her classmate ignoring her I got the feeling that Alina was joking about that and it didn't mean anything to her that she wasn't really offended that one of her classmates was ignoring her.

The main thing at this point is for her to get done with this exhibition get to her hometown and have a real rest and relaxation grow a little bit more and get comfortable with her new body with her new height and new weight. The days of Alina being 5 feet 1 inches tall and only 94 LBS are over and thats okay.
