Nathan Chen

At least he's not doing DWTS.

Maybe Yale will force him to slow down next season. I suspect he won't be able to do Japan Open, and maybe not even WTT or summer shows next year.

sheetz - haha - at least he's not doing DWTS ...

I'm not sure about Japan Open/WTT - and maybe no 4cc as well?

But I think he would still do the summer shows next year ? - might be hard for him to turn down those offers.

It depends on whether or not he plans on taking summer courses. They are so intensive that you can't really miss any classes.

No need to worry, at this point we really should not underestimate Nathan and his teams planning ability. He only takes on what he can handle so it may seem overwhelming to us but I’m sure none of it is happening without proper thought and care put into whether it is feasible for him to do so without wearing himself out. He knows better than we do what his body can and cannot handle. Just trust him, he’ll figure it out.

Seems that everyone doesn't want to see him repeat MLD ;)

raise my hand here, if Nathan has to repeat, i would not mind repeat a revamped Last Dancer. with all the choreo and transitions maybe even added choreo.
this program, is his historical 6 quads program (and that very emotional OG outing) but artistically, it could be fuller, not like Nemesis. Nathan has done Nemesis to its fullest potential both in comps and in shows.

but honestly, if he revisit last dancer, I wish it would be in a very drastically different format. I hope Nathan will have 2 brand new programs. Nemesis and Last Dancer, both had their closure in some sense last season.

Don't forget the FS will have to be 30 sec shorter next season. So instead of trying to figure out how to chop up an old program he might as well just get a completely new one.

I don't mean to underestimate Nathan - he truly has near superhuman abilities, endurance, etc.

But I am not so sure he has always had the benefit of proper planning and management in the past.

But hoping for the best for him and that he will be able to balance it all - if anyone can do it, it's Nathan.

Not saying Nathan will definitely go but he was on the 2019 Long island SOI presale flyer;)

seemed that Nathan was sick almost the entire months of January and February :(

According to SOI website there are already 9 locations listed for 2019 tour and that's just the east coast (plus Chicago)

I'm sure he can't participate in all of them (or any?)

Hate the 30 second reduction, such a waste of Nathan's super stemina:(

I don't think he will ever be doing DWTS while he is in college or going to competitions. Doesn't mean he would not do it in the future.

Don't really mind if he goes to those events and shows, and if he stays with Raf, I don't really think if Raf likes the idea of him doing that much.

HeyHeyHey. but he was so exhausted before OG started. He got 2 flus in two months. I felt so bad he had to leave early and skip and ex and closing ceremony

Well no one can do anything about being sick, it was unfortunate but getting sick during flu season is pretty common so there was really nothing anyone can do about that. There’s going to be some level of exhaustion for any elite athletes but it’s usually not anything they can’t handle.

There will be times he’s tired and sick or injured but he’s smart enough to know when he needs to pull back. I don’t think he’s irresponsible with his health (atleast not since his 2016 injury) and I think his team has Nathan the person rather than just Nathan the star athlete’s best interest at heart so he will be taken care of. The fact that he went home right after the Olympics to rest instead of staying for gala/closing tells me he knows his priorities. He could have done so much media to milk all the publicity off the Olympics but he just went home, rested for a week or so, and got to training for Worlds. He’ll be alright guys :)

I really don't think Nathan is the type of person wanted to milk Olympic publicity with or without sickness/flu situation. Also Nathan does NOT need it too, so is the DWTS show. He is not desperated for nor need the publicity from that show. His passion and root is in figure skating itself. He is a skater not a celebrity ;)

And he is truely the most charistmatic when he performances either in competitions or ice shows.

I agree, Nathan is truly the most charismatic ... his own very special quiet and mesmerizing charisma.

I don't see him wanting to become a 'celebrity' either - I'd really be quite shocked if he ever did DWTS

Not just from August on - Nathan will be away from Raf most of the time this summer (and already has been)

I think he is the opposite to milk OG publicity, especially given the fact he only openly discussed his mental/confidence issues recently. He would do his media responsibilities, but I don't really think he enjoys doing it if he doesn't have to. He is so PRIVATE and low key.

yyyyskate, can we just say he is private, not secretive?

:) - Nathan is indeed very private and low key. I think with his personality - if he didn't guard his privacy, he would go a bit crazy.

I was about to change secretive into private after I posted that post, but somehow forget it afterwards.
really need to pay more attention to wording here.  to PC.

ETA: the definition of secretive:
(of a person) inclined to conceal feelings and intentions or not to disclose information.
synonyms: uncommunicative, secret, unforthcoming, playing one's cards close to one's chest, reticent, reserved, silent, noncommunicative, quiet, tight-lipped, buttoned-up, close-mouthed, taciturn

I think the bolded parts have been used to describe Nathan in the past.

Disclaimer, just a joke.

^ well he’s both imo lol

I don’t think he’s the type to try to milk it much either as he’s naturally reserved but I meant more that if he wasn’t sick, he might have done a little bit more media obligations than what he ended up doing which was essentially like 2 or 3 interviews a day after his long and that was it. He probably would have done a little more media, nothing too crazy but just a few more interviews or so if he had stayed for the closing ceremonies as he was one of the biggest stories of the Olympics. But he was sick so he didn’t bother with that and went straight home instead.

He & and his agent also turned down many endorsement offers prior to the Olympics so he didn’t get overwhelmed with obligations so they just went for the biggest/best brands. I don’t think he has a problem saying No if he really feels it’s not in his best interest. That’s just my take though, I know fans naturally worry no matter what so just trying to balance it out with some optimism :)

I can’t say I disagree with the word ‘secretive’ being used to describe Nathan.

He certainly plays his cards close to his chest.
