Alina Zagitova

Wow this thread is moving fast, me likey.

Anyway, my two cents on recent developments (Eteri's comments, etc):

Alina is super smart, beyond her years in fact, and this is one of the reasons I admire her so. When she was asked about Russian flag not being reinstated for the closing ceremony she got out of that like a pro, she is a master at avoiding though binds (see further evidence on the questions about boys in Japan) and shark infested waters (people basically had to throw Ashley's comments in her face to get a quote and she answered like a pro). On Alena's recent broadcast she was as quiet as the cast of "A quiet place", not one little peep, she didn't make any effort to be in it but didn't obviously run from it either. I call that smart, genius level smart.

This is Alina's year, now more than ever, and if she plays her cards right she will be set for life. Being in the media, getting media interest, training hard (even harder than ever before), getting results, she will have her pick of coach, country and anything else she wants another year from now. She could probably have the first two right now if she needed them, but, point is, she doesn't. She loves her country (as she should), is thankful for the opportunities she has, trains with people that are pushing the technical boundaries in her sport (Eteri's comment about it being easier to run away than to catch up is genius), is still in school, should be near her family, has never been over trained (she wasn't doing crazy jumps as a little kid), and she already won an Olympic Gold Medal. All she needs to do is keep it up, and by the way she has been training these past few days we can see that her mind is in the right place. And she is not even 16 yet, imagine that.

I wish her a nice down time when she gets it (Alena seemed to mention first 10th and then 15th as quitting time), can enjoy a nice family vacation and come up fully charged to receive Masaru and all the media attention they'll both get. As an aside, I think the fact that she had a press conference about that at the Russian Olympic Committee's headquarters is a great sign of her great prospects in Russia.

I love everything about this post! Every word of it! May all of it come true!

5200 comments in all articles about this drama only on sports.ru forum, if go well everyone will forget that Putin has tomorrow inaguration :popcorn:

And to Madison's nice question of a few pages ago, my bet for Alina's two GP assignments are:

- Cup of China (from Nov 2 to Nov 4)
- IdF aka the French one ( from Nov 23rd to Nov25th)

She won both of them last year and they are not back to back.

If things heat up a bit and Russian Fed wants to put her at Rostelecom Cup (from Nov 16th to 18th), then I think she'll have to replace IdF with that.

I don't see her at Skate America (Oct 19th to 21st) because the US wouldn't look forward to having her take the whole female team to school right in their backyard. But the timing would be super convenient for her, maybe USFSA can get a copy of that high road map you guys are drawing for Eteri in time to invite Alina for that.

Go Alina! :cheer2:
Hearing what Evgenia said about you, I wish you all the best 100 times stronger!:handw:

People have eyes and ears. If I were any of Eteri's students, I wouldn't trust her at all. Yesterday Lipniskaia, today Medvedeva, tomorrow it could be any one of them.

There is a saying (I'm probably getting it wrong) - if someone you think you can trust hasn't sold you down the river it's because no one's met their price yet.

Eteri's thrown one too many of her former students under the bus in my opinion. This latest burnt bridge should be a shining light for the rest of her students and their parents to see clearly the writing on the wall.

I hope Alina can see the remainder of her time with Eteri as a business transaction and keep her heart and feelings out of it.

Alina is the queen if sambo 70 now. But I hope she and her parents are paying attntion to the Eteri Zhenya saga.

Happy Birthday to Alina's mother!

Just for notification:

The TV show on which Alina, Kaetlyn and Javi appear will be aired in Japan on May 12th!:luv17:

Lol the picture, it's Javierman and a Japanese comedian:laugh2:

Thank you for this precious info. I'm so looking forward to this, have watched the last 2 airings of the show waiting for it to be the one featuring them or for it to have news on when that one would air. And I had major laughs watching it, it is a lot of fun. Looking forward to see what they'll do with Alina, Kaetlyn and Javi.

You trying to get me to think they are like Yagudin and Plushenko. Nyet. Alina and Zhenya are friends. Did you see their hug at the olympics when Alina won? Awe.

I think that it was all for show. They're just friendly. Thank god they're not like Yagudin and Plushenko. And as long as there's mutual respect, there's no issue with just being friendly.

I dont know if this is real,if this is true im a bit dissapointed with evgenia. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bicq5iPDSo-/

You are obviously allowed your feelings, I respect that a 1000%. Don’t know Russian ou lip reading, probably Eteri is saying that in voice over but I doubt she said that at that very moment (she just had one of the best skates of her life then, no idea about the results yet).

Johnny Weir who does know Russian and I little bit of lip reading it seems said during the NBC broadcast that Zhenya said “I just did everything i could” at the kiss and cry. I bet if he deciphered even a little hint of that phrase Eteri mentioned he would have told (NBC - I think Mike - was milking the frenemy angle for all its got).

If she said that at another time I wouldn’t hold something said in the heat of a hard moment in your life to be representative of your true feelings and wishes about someone. She was allowed to be super salty, she had the toughest year of her life with that horrific injury, more horrible than we even realized given how she still can’t fully jump and train, and she probably went through the nine circles of hell to skate as well as she did at the Olympics. And still it wasn’t enough to get a gold.

No country in the world would forgo the option to take two top dogs (gold and silver) prospects and bring only one. US never held Tara back for Michelle (gold and silver), Japan didn’t hold Shona back from Hanyu (and Hanyu stood to be a two Olympic champ and first back to back one since 1952), Hanyu won but it could have easily gone the other way as he had a horrific injury if his own to deal with. But being unrealistic and sad, and even saying ugly things in the heat of the moment is understandable.

In the end she was nicely friendly towards Alina at both venue and medal ceremonies, was super nice to her in Japan during normal interactions and was nice to her in Korea. That’s what she is supposed to do, they have different tastes, a reasonable age gap, and yet have interacted nicely and even had some fun. I think that’s how it’s supposed to be.

To be honest I am kinda worried about Alina. Danill is fond of her but what if the next girl comes and well... it's all a circle again?

And Eteri has talked about her former students not just one. Yulia, Pitkeev, Voronov... etc... and now Zhenia. If you do not see a pattern here then I have nothing to say.

3 important dates coming later this month....

May 12th - Japanese TV show with Alina, Katelyn Osmond, and Javier Fernandez airs. Youtube videos sure to follow soon after.

May 18th - Alina's birthday (Happy Birthday Sweet 16) --- also this is EdRoz's birthday as well!

May 31st - MASARU arrives ---- maybe (?) possibly (?) even involving the PM of Japan!

Sorry for the big type but I want to make sure it stands out - these 3 things can help keep us positive in these ever changing times.

Alina's parents need to throw Alina in the BMW and get the heck out of Moscow right now. There is an ice rink and her old coach and choreographer in her hometown. She and Daniil can Facetime her training if she want to work on POTO until her vacation officially starts.

It seems like the media is going to be foaming at the mouth over this. No good can come of it.

I hope the media won't be all over Alina for a quote.

And Eteri is not in a foul mood at the rink. Poor Alina, poor kids.

In my first post about two weeks ago, I mentioned that I believed Eteri psychologically sabotaged Alina at worlds. I’m more convinced than ever. I could tell the crazy from that woman. Eteri couldn’t stand to be wrong, this girl she hadn’t thought much of was about to win everything in her first senior season. She had been pushing Zhenya and Alina winning threatened that narrative, it also threatened her personally as she lives vicariously through Alina. She had believed Alina would choke and needed to prove that it would happen eventually. She knew what buttons to press to psych out Alina prior to her free skate. This woman is all about protecting her own ego, as the Zhenya interview demonstrates.
