Polina Tsurskaya leaves Tutberidze

Much less shocking than Evgenia's exit. While Evgenia's exit felt like a thunderous shock, considering how close she was to Eteri. This in comparison feels like a blowing of the tyre.

This was expected and I hope Polina can do well under a new coach. Heck, I wish I could hope for an Armenia kind of rumour for her, considering how stiff the competition is growing in Russia, while she looks like a Carolina type skater who needs time to mature and reach her full potential.

My only concern is that Buyanova can give Polina Sotskova-like programs. This girl has so much potential, Buyanova can explore with her.
And i hope that her konig desease is in control. So maybe she can breathe a bit.
That makes me think that maybe Buyanova has the tallest group of girls now.

So happy for Polina :yahoo:

I always felt she is Eteri's most naturally talented skater ...

Well it's not like the long program they gave her last year was anything great. That program felt like an afterthought. It will be interesting to see if they keep that new SP, i guess why not, it's already paid for. LOL

Yes that program was like a program made for a skater in an adult competition.
What was the music of that SP?

I loved the program. For me it was subtlety with effectiveness, rather than bombastic mess of some of the other skaters.

This surprises me a lot less than Evghenia's move. I hope it works out for both of them. I must admit that until now, I always took the negative stories about Eteri with a pinch of salt. I don't think it's wrong to be a tad strict on being disciplined with kids. But the interview I read was rather slanderous, both towards Evghenia and BOrser. Whatever for? This has diminished her in my view.

Does Polina have 2 GP spots guaranted? By her SB she should have one but i don't know if two are possible.

So Eteri will be banking on Alina to tide her over until her junior girls can pick up the slack. That'll make for an interesting couple of interim seasons...

Best of luck to Polina in her new coaching home.

I saw her skate live in Lake Placid during Skate America and her jumps are to die for. I hope she can get some more consistent performances for the upcoming season.

(Please skating gods - no helicopter tanos like her friend Maria S. - she doesn't need them! Well, neither does Maria!)

She has musicality, great form. Her presence is subtle, yet commanding. And the edges into the jumps, how could one not notice the similarities?

Not really. I find her musicality a bit lacking at times. Haven't felt her presence too much, she needs work there. And while she might have correct edges, her jumps lack control due to her technique.

Depends on the perception of the individual I guess. I like her subtlety over the bombastic miming of some of her contemporaries.

Polina doesn't need to be compared anyway. She has her own strong skills and personality.
