Evgenia Medvedeva to train under Brian Orser

However, my understanding is that in Russia, this is a bit different. The coaches' authority is respected more and the coaches aren't employed by the skaters in the same manner in there. From what I've seen, the response there isn't as overwhelmingly pro-Medvedeva and anti-Eteri as I've seen on the western social media / forums.

W/ regard to the Zhenya-Eteri divorce, there are a few things at work here:
1)There's obviously a cultural difference w/ how teachers/coaches are regarded.
2)No denying there's a bias against Eteri outside of Russia, fair or otherwise.
3)There's a nationalism aspect to this. (Zhenya going to a Canadian coach, rumors of her changing citizenship, abandoning Russia...) Dynamic would be different if she was going to CSKA or Mishin and everyone knew right the way. (No speculation.)

And so, everything in this world has returned back to the order:

Eteri coaches little girls.
Brian Orser coaches top notch figure skating stars.

No. They concretly said it after OG.
I don't think they were really that great friends ever, like spending holidays together or paying each other visits.
They spent the time together and make the best of it due to circumstances (training camp in Japan, shows).

With whom did he break up after Yuna, I mean big names?

Not a big name, but still known - Adam Rippon, shortly after Yuna. Orser was emotionally effected with the split with Yuna at the time, my impression was it effected the coaching situation with Rippon.

After Yuna and Adam Rippon's departure, Orser said in an interview he wouldnt let himself get emotionally involved anymore.

Even after all these years, among Brian Orser, Tracy Wilson, Ghisland Briand, Orser is the most serious in public. Tracy is encouraging, Briand enthusiastic.

I agree with your whole post. Maybe I won't be popular with my opinion but :

I like that Zhenya will train with Orser. It will be very interesting to see how it works. How will change Zhenya's skate and her fight with the other Russians
girls will be more interesting. I believe Eteri is not flawless, she looks like not a likeable person and he wasn't flawless in this situation but you don't forget she was hurted she was in doubt. Zhenya had plan. Eteri worked with Zhenya for 11 years. If you like Zhenya's skating that is her works she made a great skater from that little girl. According to TAT they look like mother and daughter, Zhenya was her pet.And it seems she doesn't deserve a fair good bye from Zhenya.

And they were criticized to death for that title in the comments section. But who cares right? :palmf:

Internet reflex the extreme in a population. So I wouldn’t take a comment section as the thermometer to public opinion, is the opinion of just a small segment of the population. Again Evgenia probably knew this would happened, and knew she would lose some fans but she would earn some.

Beside there is no way to know if the people commenting were haters of Evgenia from the beginning so no point in bringing this as evidence of the feelings of all Russian fans.

Well, if this is the condition of good friendship then there are only a few good friends in FS world. Not to mention Alina just 15 she can't go alone to holiday with her friends..But they trained together every day.

While I agree with first two points, third one is wrong. I don't see any nationalism here, moreover situation will be exactly the same if she would move to, let's say CSKA or Plushenko, or Lambiel, or whoever else. It's not about coach, it's about how she has done it. If you follow this, you should know that in March she said in interview that she continues to work with Eteri without any doubt, and after few weeks she already started negotiations with a different coach. She is a blatant liar and a hypocrite. That's all. Like it or not, these are simple facts.

For example, Polina T and Maria S went to holidays together last year.
I would not start here what friendship is, as it is subjective and different from person to person, but this was my feeling> that Alina and Evgenia are 2 people who are friendly and respect each other, but not great friends.

I said not once here the sport.ru forum is the worst!! Many posters hate everybody who is a little bit popular and who is a little bit more succesful or richer than them.

Zagitova on 1TV was asked to comment about Medvadewva from reporters. "There's nothing to comment from me" "I'm not a Zhenia, so I can't do anything to answer her Zhenia situation. And I'm not in touch with Zhenia at all. "

They were great friends....if I'm not mistaken .

So many fake emotions and words and acts.

Ah, so you are still at it I see. Well, I guess everything Evgenia says or does can be interpreted in a negative way if there's a will. People will see what they want to see. How about these alternative readings of what you (and, admittedly some others) have been harping on:
- Evgenia didn't respond to Eteri's messages so she must be rude and ingrateful - or how about she's been advised to do so by her team? Sounds very plausible to me.
- if Evgenia is a hypocrite for congratulating Alina while -maybe- wishing Alina had been kept on the Jr circuit, then I guess we're all hypocrites. Have you never been in a situation when you had to say nice things to a relative you cannot stand to prevent a family scandal, to a colleague who, say, got a promotion in your place because other colleagues are watching, to tell white lies and pretend you're interested in what people you don't give a toss about tell you? And the whole world was watching her. TBH, I vastly prefer Evgenia's classy conduct to an undoutedly genuine but unsportsmanlike display of emotion at getting an Olympic silver.
- even if Evgenia did say what Eteri claims she did about Alina, how about she's not being bitter/jealous/whatever, but just a normal human with emotions and outbursts. That happens to the very best of us, and let whoever never said anything in the heat of a moment cast the first stone.
Just offering an alternative POV, and I'm leaving it at that.

I would say that both did something bad. Medvedeva in private, for not saying goodbye to Eteri face to face. Eteri in public, for her comments who may seem rude.

Anyway, Is there many skaters who have their entire career with one Coach?

Russian media is determined to make this a mess ugh ...

I mean, highlight Eteri and Evgenia all you want, fine, they are the ones in the centre of this separation and both have things to say to the press. Chase them down for comments for all I care. Still, leave Alina and BOrser alone please. Alina is obviously not the 'evil step-sister' in this story; Eteri didn't even want her to win in the first place. From the look of things, Evgenia didn't confide in Alina about this (no reason she should) so what is Alina going to say? And BOrser didn't even lure Evgenia away - she approached him first! (and to highlight his sexuality ugh ugh ugh)

Hey, but that's how media works, what can I say :slink:
